Would love to hear the rational behind drafting him.

I think its so when Rawlinson is delisted at the end of the year there is someone to help carry his stuff back to SA.

I have watched a fair bit of Newton over the last couple years, I personally like the pick, it’s an upside approach and I’m happy with that line of thinking.

Quoting his SANFL stats doesn’t make much sense as he has been used exclusively as a small forward this season, he’s actually very dangerous at the coal face and is an incredibly tough player, his goal sense and craft is good as well, averaging nearly 2 goals a game at SANFL league level isn’t exactly bad either.

I think we’ll see him get a fair bit of midfield time for the Beagles.

Pretty happy with the picks. McCarthy will probably get a run sooner rather than later. Happy for Newton to spend some time in the WAFL. Midseason draft is usually hit and miss anyway.

He's well off full fitness from what I understand and in his first season of league. He's more a small nuggety midfielder who can go forward as opposed to an actual small forward.

I assume Newton was someone on our list last year that ended up undrafted, so we've taken the opportunity to have a look at him now.

Be interesting to see whether they stick him in the Beagles midfield straight away or start him off as a forward.
