Or we benefit in pick trading with those clubs and dont bid.

Not convinced on CDT.

Use 1 on Duursma and split 2 with whoever is in love with CDT.

Then land two other 1sts or just take Sharp with pick 2.
Is that you Mr Clarke? Seriously, after last year!

Can one of you legal boffins clarify if it’s legal to overtake another vehicle by passing underneath it whilst it’s in motion?
Or is it legal to overtake a cyclist by passing directly over the top of them?

Did a bit more reading.

Price fixing is one form of restraint of trade.

There are guidelines where an employer can restrain someone from moving or participating in industry or areas.

Price fixing is one form of .restraint.

But what about before they are even employed by them?

How the draft has just been accepted (without challenge) in this country without specific legislation enabling it (or exempting it from violation) is beyond me but anyhoo, it’s where we are.

Not having seen either play, i'd rather take a leap of CDT than Duursma.

An athletic, Luke Jackson type ruck would be good for us, as someone that could play relatively soon and provide value around the ground, and develop over time into a starting no. 1 ruck.

Duursma sounds like the type who is a bit like Will Hoskin Elliot, capable of playing everywhere, but never bulks up enough to be a gun in any one spot.

Could be right off.

Anyone who wants the draft gone should just remember that Geelong exists, and you know that if it's bad now their actions without any form of player movement restrictions will be insane.

Duursma strikes me as a Whitfield type who could play half back or wing or half forward.

He see's himself as an inside mid. So more Dawson like at the Crows perhaps.

Seriously. Stop and think.

Every draft is different.

Different picks.

Different players.

Players ranked......differently.

So in your mind do you simply not bother considering all these factors when deciding what is the best way to use your first round pick?

It's. Just use the pick. Don't consider other options. Ever.

The split that landed both Ginbey and Hewett looks like a pretty good decision in hindsight.

I'm still firmly of the belief that if the club has pick 1 & 2 we should split pick 1. It's almost certain someone has a hard on for Duursma or CDT (maybe even in the belief that having Duursma could help them get Reid in the future although I doubt it)

Take Sharp at 2 and look at how we improve our draft hand with the trade down and our other picks. Just how highly the club rates our 3 most draftable NGA's this year plus Banfield remains to be seen.

TBH I wouldn't be looking to take more than 3 or 4 live picks in this draft. If Essendon finish 14th, Draper goes and they get tier 1 would you trade pick 1 for pick 5+6? I would. Particularly if they were willing to upgrade the Hawks 2nd rounder for the Saints one as well.

Would put the club in a very good position to get GC top pick or allow a couple of picks 19 (21) and say 25 for potentially trading in targeted players.

No one in their right mind would split and pass on Fred with pick 1.
Duursma with pick 2 if we get compo pick for Oscar.
If we don't get the compo pick then we might get Curtin with our second pick and that might be in the thirties.

Yeah, I'd be targeting the Dons picks however I think it would be us who would have to swap our 2nd for theirs to balance it a bit. Pick 1 and 2 trades have not been getting that much recently. Look at our last two pick swaps.

1,5,9,13 + NGA's would be a huge draft for us.

Sharp, Lindsay, Freddy, Curtin would be the dream draft.
Although I think both Freddy and Curtin will be gone by those picks

Curtin projecting as (non aligned) the third or 4th tall picked in the draft. He is faster and more agile than Jack Williams but he isn't overly fast or agile as far as talls go so I personally think he would definitely still be on the table at 13.

I'd really want to know that Duursma could bulk up. His frame just looks thin. If he can't then he's not going inside. I like Whitfield, but feel finding a half back flanker that can provide run and carry should be easier than a rolls royce inside mid. That's what i would prefer with a top 5 pick.

Or in the case of either CDT or Duursma, think finding someone who can be a gun ruck is harder than finding an outside mid.

It has to be in discussion who they will draft but it's also why I'd trade out pick 1 instead of pick 2. There's prestige in pick 1 and the Dons will want the media attention and the hope that comes with a number 1 pick. It's also why I think the R2 works in our favour instead of theirs.

The academy players make literally no impact to who we can pick from, just the pick number.
It's shit that our top picks won't necessarily be the best players in the pool, but it is what it is.

If we have 1 & 2, we should use pick 1 on who we rate highest (so the player gets the cash bonus & prestige of being #1), and then bid on every top end academy prospect to force those clubs to match at the highest price.
There's certainly a case that every team that has traded away top 10 picks for later picks to gain points, we should bid on every player that is a top ~10 standard academy player for that team, even if it's earlier than they would have expected, they are matching.

Otherwise, they miss out and their first pick is pick ~25 where they get an inferior player. Every pick you can eat up improves our later picks.

I thought he looked really good last weekend. 3 big goals in 3qtrs including a tough set shot from the pocket. Then went into the ruck and helped out in defence in the last qtr. When the game was on the line he took a clutch intercept mark in D50. I've got a feeling he might start rising up the draft boards.

I probably rate him much higher than the concensus with the media and he 100% looks like a long term AFL player. His performance on the weekend was great and in general has had great performances this year. He is a bit of man playing against kids though so he would need to play WAFL league level and do well before the end of the year imo to be picked top 10 due to the man against boys question mark with him not having outstanding agility and speed. There are two huge things he has going for him. He kicks goals and he has a great footy IQ.

Have to remember he's 200cm and 100kg's already. He needs to perform against men this year imo to rise up draft boards.

An excerpt after it points out that an under strength Victorian cohort = a shallow draft pool

But the nature of the 2025 pool might have clubs with multiple first-round picks, such as Essendon, Richmond and West Coast, pondering their positions.

Given the ‘thinner’ strength of this year’s draft pool, it might mean clubs are more willing to part with first round picks than usual.

“If you’re Richmond or Essendon right now, you’ve got two first-rounders, you’re thinking: ‘Do we trade them off? Does anyone want them?’” Ralph posed.

But the kicker is at the very end

If they are more willing, it could trigger a huge Harley Reid play.

“The Harley Reid stuff, where’s Harley at? Is it Essendon that’s probably the favourite right now?

“It’s worth it, but I tell you what, he’d want to be really good. He’s a superstar but he’s going to take some time.”

Gotta get a Harley reference in there
