He’ll be struggling for games if JUH pulls his head in and focuses on footy ..
If it's going to happen, this year is the most likely before King goes home and he starts getting games.

2, 19, 20 for Jed Walter and pick 7 sounds pretty bloody good to me.
...
I could get behind this. .

Walk away with Pick 1, 7, Hawks first and Walter, Starc and Dev.

whilst I agree on sentiment, i think its too soon to say we pissed away a top 5 pick. overpaying isn't same as pissing away.

not sure we ignored anything, we have drafted midfielders in Reid, hewett, hall, gross and Davis at very least. we can talk about what Allan can or cannot become, but hardly consider a bust yet.

o I don't think we are ignoring anything unless you feel we should have drafted another midfielder and not shanahan? we tried for Warner.

we will have 1-2 more mids this year. and of course getting the Dev. we can't say club both ignored midfield by not getting dev 2 years ago (even though we tried) and also ignoring the midfield by getting dev this year. sounds like we also tried for Neale.

They were all separate melting points, not this then this (other than when we piss away a top 3 pick, we then end up outside the range of the elite midfielders, so end up with half back flankers). But I agree overpaying at the trade table isn't the same as pissing away top three pick.

It also wasn't strictly related to last year's trades and draft but in general. There's a reason why "HBF with midfield potential" is a board meme, it's a recurring issue over many years. By and large it's been because we've been too good to have access to elite midfielders, but when we also do it when we do have top 3 picks? The sheets get wet and rightfully so I would argue, regardless of how well we do later on with Shanahands etc.

gonna be another one of those trade period.

hold onto your butts while trade radio say "just waiting for that first domino to fall" for the first 90% of the trade period.

Trade radio for 10 out of the 12 days coverage: "Those clowns at AFL did it again, what a bunch of clowns."

Good for us if there is a salary squeeze at GCS. Also means GCS will pay less in picks.

Odd that they made the highlighted quote so misleading, makes it seem as if they won't be paying salary for him to go to gold coast, when the actual quote indicates they will.

Crows made the right call to walk

did they? if it allows you best shot to play in granny and ideally win a permiership, who cares if he becomes comatose for last 2 years of his contract.

at moment, they are too outclassed in midfield during finals. how will they get through Rowell, miller, Anderson and Petracca to win a premiership over next 5 years? GWS is going for Oliver. There isn't much there for crows past Dawson unless someone jumps dramatically to an A grader next year eg soligo.

I think they needed to be a little more short sided unless they have other logs on the fire.

I go by Key$ now

Stupid theories aside, there is one question I want people to consider

Why is it that the only journalist who had virtually the exact details of the assistance package at least a week before it was decided/announced, also linked the priority pick he was saying West Coast would get as being traded to Brisbane for Starcevich - who as far as we knew had yet to make a decision on his future.

Twomey can either see the future or he was told what was happening, including an agreed trade price for Starcevich. Our goal was to get Starcevich to the club without diluting our FA compensation which appears to be happening.

Brisbane being the prime beneficiary of the process ultimately settled on is entirely coincidental and nothing to do with their former CEO being in charge of that process

Plus Twomey came out spouting it would be unfair to the Lions if there was no free agency dilution. He mentioned it straight away and several times. Which I still don’t understand how it would stop them matching if they wanted to keep him.

Can anyone tell me why it's even pick 19 when we have the very next selection at pick 20?

What club in their right mind makes a trade which includes the higher of 2 draft selections that are back to back?
First selection on night two has been know to have more value. Last few drafts I don't think its been traded though.

Friend of mine who taught Dev at Aquinas reckons he had a massive ego and likely struggled with the reality check of arriving into a stacked Brisbane midfield. Says if he keeps the ego in check and knuckles down, he could well exceed our expectations and become an important cog for us. Here's hoping. Not super relevant information but it confirms what I already thought of him, which is that he's full of himself. He's also pretty talented though, so I hope he puts it all together in the blue and gold.
I heard the opposite, he's down to earth and very loyal. They said he'd probably stay wherever he was drafted.
They also thought he'd struggle at the highest level unless he changed his game style of waiting to be tackled, playing through it and disposing of it after being tackled

I posted the above last Tuesday

Yes, I was wrapped in tin foil but tonight’s developments have only reinforced my belief the AFL have orchestrated all this

Consider:

• Cal Twomey was reporting our draft assistance package last week as being up to 4 rookie list spots and an end of R1 priority pick that might need to be traded. As the week wore on he dropped the need to trade bit
• He wasn’t just close to being right, he was bang on when no other journalists were reporting anything
• When discussing the R1 priority pick he immediately linked it to a potential Starcevich trade to avoid diluting our Oscar Allen compensation and was unequivocal about it. There was no wriggle room that it was around the mark just an almost statement of fact it would happen like he knew. I’ve not known him to be so clear cut when discussing other potential trades
• One of our original requests was to remove the dilution of FA compensation when bringing in a Free Agent but this was denied
• The assistance packages given to North were both announced the day of the Brownlow. Ours wasn’t announced until the Tuesday after the GF - over a week later
• The main beneficiary of Brisbane receiving the end of R1 priority pick is Brisbane. Why would the AFL help Brisbane? I’m sure it’s coincidental that the former Brisbane CEO is now in charge of determining our assistance package. Remember that on his first day in his new job Swann said he didn’t believe we deserved any draft assistance/priority picks
• It was reported that West Coast contacted Brisbane the day of the GF to check on Starcevich’s health/condition. That’s pretty unusual to contact a rival club about a player who had yet to announce his intentions to seek a trade
• The end of R1 priority pick just happens to be the same pick as the likely Band 2 compensation Brisbane would receive for Starcevich had they not been bringing a FA

This was all sorted out last week between the clubs and the AFL but took until after the GF to be finalised - hence the delay in making the announcement

I’m giving Clarke a pass on this one. My fervent belief is that we were told the priority pick was conditional on it being traded to Brisbane and in return we’ll be guaranteed pick 2 for Oscar Allen

We get Starcevich without diluting our compensation and get a free pick to trade for him so effectively get him for free. Brisbane get some additional points to match the inevitable bid on Annable - expect they won’t ontrade the pick and it will ultimately vanish into thin air like it never existed. The AFL can point to them already giving us a priority pick if we seek any further help

Call it copium or whatever, IDGAF - this is the AFL orchestrating a result that suits them (and helps old mate look out for his former club)

Brisbane using the end of round 1 pick as points for Annabel bid means Brisbane get the full points value rather than it get shifted down to circa 32 if used on a player pick.

Cal just said Draper end 1R

James Hird was on trade radio this morning explaining Bombers will have 4 x top 10 picks courtesy Draper FA and Merrett trade, and with already a very young list, are well on their way to rebuilding.
