Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Clayton Oliver for basically free, and with conditions on his contract if he's interested, but no chance he comes here. Especially with Will Schofield waiting for him.

Cal suggesting on TR that the Dons may come for pick 1 with the view being that they go with Duursma V3. This was in response to a listener question rather than being raised as actual mail.

Still running with Duurs and CDT and the clear 1 & 2 talents...

The below was in a fox footy update

Days before free agency opens, the Giants have confirmed the first signing of the AFL off-season, with Essendon defender Jayden Laverde committing to the club.

Laverde is set to sign with GWS after the draft in late November – either as a rookie or via the pre-season supplemental selection period.

This is how we should be looking to add Robertson to our list. He has no trade value as he was probably going to be delisted by Brisbane anyway

And getting him onto the rookie list keeps our main list spots open which we will for the draft

We'd likely do a risk assessment with a medical team - ideally as part of his medical for the club.

They'd look at his history of head knocks, symptoms, any markers showing up on scans etc.

Reality is any player could lose their career to a single incident (Venables 😭) so I can't see it changing our interest. But we'd be silly to not consider the risks.

Personally, i'm more concerned about the cost in terms of draft capital rather than the contract/$$$ we pay him.
I would completely discount anything Starcevich and the Lions medical team say such as describing his symptoms as you suggest. Starcevich has $6 mil on the line and the Lions have a draft pick plus wanting to help out Starcevich. The only thing that matters is what you can measure and quantify independently, which in this case is basically nothing.

I feel like Melbourne and Essendon (if Merrett leaves) could fall off a cliff next year. Richmond too if they start phasing out their veterans more in favour of youngsters

Hopefully we can climb up a few spots and avoid another spoon

I don’t think Coach King will last long at Melbourne coming in and tossing senior players out so soon

He’s definitely the guy with the most upside that we’re even a tiny chance to get, however if his own club is willing to pay $700,000 a year for 4-5 years to get him out, what does that tell you?
No doubt there may be some culture issues there, but off the top of my head Collingwood traded Treloar one year into his lucrative contract and was paying something like one-third of his salary for the past few years, and they've been paying Melbourne and Sydney to have the privilege of Brodie Grundy play for them. It's pretty much just an acknowledgment that the player is overpaid and doesn't fit in their long-term plans any more, and they know they have to eat some of the money to move him on.

It looks like Melbourne are going into re-build mode and they’ll let Oliver go in the hope of securing a first round pick to accelerate the re-build. It looks vastly different to the Bowes situation where the club’s priority was to clear salary cap space. I suspect Melbourne will demand a first rounder for Oliver.

They turned it down last year and now have less leverage.

Agree completely but I'd suggest the Dogs "interest" may mean we likely have offered a main list spot to get him over the line

Should still be free or a throwaway pick at worst

If they're willing to pay 700k they'll definitely be after a 1st

Pick purchasing effectively

Really don’t like that wording of FA option. Surely we can’t fk this up
I'm not concerned since the words didn't come from West Coast. Even Pyke knows about diluting the Oscar pick. From his interview on Tuesday it seems the club is mostly aligned with most of our sentiments on here. Doesn't mean they won't **** it up, but they're aware.

Dev requesting a trade when he literally has no contract and is about to be delisted is definitely a bold strategy.

Dev's Exit Interview -

Fagan:
"Hi Dev, take a seat. I'm afraid I've got some bad news, your time at the club...

Dev: "I'D LIKE TO BE TRADED TO THE EAGLES"

Cost himself a good 30 games off his career staying at Brisbane these last couple of years, did Dev.

But honestly, don’t mind him coming now. Bigger body to shield our developing crew, has shown at VFL level in the right role he can find the ball and is a defensively minded midfielder that our midfield group lacks at present. Could see him turning into our next Hutchings and be a really useful player for us.

May get overtaken in time, but right now the right age bracket and will get an opportunity with us he wouldn’t get at Brisbane.

I know he’s a bit of a meme here, but he played in a GF 2 years ago. You can’t blame him for making the decision he did.

We want to use our 1st rounders on kids, Baker coming in being the exception.

That leaves 2nd rounders and later picks for trades. Which doesnt land guns. It lands role players.

Responding to this because the Fred rolled over to part 3.

Nothing wrong with using 1st rounders on kids and later picks for trades, it's definitely preferable to what we did last year. Wasn't long ago people were talking about trading a (late) first for Darcy Cameron. Just no.

What I don't get is our apparent reluctance to bring in low ceiling experienced mids. Other than Deven Robertson. There is a reason that Constable and Parfitt dominate at WAFL level and Gross, Davis, Chesser, whoever don't. Years in the system doing AFL pre seasons count. Even Harley Reid who was AFL ready in game one isn't ready to be a full time mid yet. With Yeo being an iffy proposition (and 33 next year) and TK being predominantly a half forward I would think some focus should be on having some experienced bodies in the middle. We want to get games into the young mids but having 3 x 20 gamers plus BBW/Flynn at centre bounces isn't great for development.
