Massive win if next years draft is as strong as early projections suggest, considering we got Shanahan with 30 last year.

I wouldn’t call it strong but it’s definitely looking stronger than this one. There’s a lot of good WA talent from top to bottom too.

Assuming we get F2 for Ryan and F2 for Chesser and same ladder positions all of the following are WA boys apart from
Dougie who we should find out about today

1-Dougie Cochrane
19-Benji Van Rooyen
25-Garrison Kenh (NGA match)
26-Health Mellody
37-Lachlan McGlade (NGA match)
55-Harper Banfield (FS match)

Leo Steed is also a floater that could go in a huge range.

Who would be more pissed we traded for Clayton Fallover - Will Schofield or Keys? 🤔

Do we want to improve or do we want to be the good guys?
Id take the roll of the dice at 600k over 5 along with some clauses in the contract.

There’s good guys and there’s poison.

Try 800k-$1m heavily back ended and we’d need to give Melbourne a good 1R if we aren’t taking his salary.

MCQ will know exactly what we’re dealing with. He’ll either be straight in or as I suspect, straight out.

Clarry would fit right in at Hawthorn
Melbourne 2017-20 and Hawthorn 2024- are everything wrong with fake tough guy footy clubs, they’d be an absolute dream pairing.

Not convinced of that, they don't want to be paying him 1.5m for the next five years to play in the VFL. Would be a late first or second rounder even with the 700k they'd cover. It's a fire sale on a single player.

I watched zero hangers mock draft earlier and I wish I hadn't.

Ugghh. Brother ughhhh.

Dursma, CDT, Dovaston, and.....

"Ok so now we have the final pick of round 1, I can see I haven't actually addressed any midfield deficiency on their list yet.... And I still won't with this pick as there's just too much talent left to pick from... WCE select Mitch Marsh"

🤦‍♂️

In all honesty I would be thrilled with that haul, I love Dovaston and our small forward stocks are so bleak, he’s such a good ground ball player too.

Duursma will be a star midfielder, CDT can act as an extra midfielder, Dovaston gives us a genuine small threat across the ground and Marsh at that pick is incredible value and could be a point of difference wing / forward.

Ideally you’d like a mid to slide instead of Marsh though.

We’ll be trading up anyways so I doubt that comes to fruition, can’t see us not having 3 top 10 picks. We will pick 2 midfielders.

If Marsh slides that far we'd be crazy not to pick him up.

But geez, I'd really want to swap CDT for a Sharp or Robey.

Can we trade players for rookie picks next week? If so, welcome aboard Dev!

If we get Dev, wonder if that would change our thinking with possibly Sharp as one of our first 2 selections.

Not sure a midfield with both Dev and Sharp would work that well

I'm still team JTS. Feel like if we're making decisions around what we do with top 5 picks (ideally key pillars of our side for a decade) based on whether or not we have Dev Robertson, we've got our priorities backwards.

Dev will be good to have for a bit of hardness and protection in the right age bracket, whether that's at AFL or WAFL level. But it'd be long odds that he'd be our #1 contested mid in 3-4 years time when Sharp would be developed enough to hit his straps in that role. If we don't end up getting as much games out of him as he'd like because Sharp is excellent early and outclasses him, that's an L I can live with.

Also on balance if using Brisbane as a template they roll with both Dunkley (Sharp) and J.Berry (Robertson) in their best side, but could make do when Berry got injured. Perfectly happy to have a few eggs in the tough contested mid basket.

I wonder if having Mini and Sam Radford in our coaching department persuades the club to go after Clarry. They would no doubt be confident that they could get the best out of him.
There is every chance they’ve seen the worst of him though and think hell no.

I know bad behaviours ingrain themselves situationally, but I suspect the media don’t know/ haven’t reported nearly the half of it.
There’s a reason Melbourne want him gone and are prepare to take a big financial hit.
My strong opinion is we’ll stay away from that. Sam Mitchell, however, that seems a perfect fit

Melbourne will be an interesting watch. McVee, Petracca, Oliver and May all possible departures.

Current draft hand is poor - 24, 55 and 60.

McVee a likely R2 (Dockers have 11, 30, 39)
Petracca will not get them multiple R1 unless Dees eat huge salary % (apparently the 4 years are heavily back ended)
Oliver will be a win IF they just get him off the books (5 years at $1mln ++) and "off field" issues
May is at best a late R2

Sounds like King turned the light on for them

Alternatively they may tell the club to stay the **** away from him.

At least we have two people at the club with first hand knowledge of what Oliver’s problems were/are and will have an idea as to whether he’s worth speaking to

Agree regarding the small forward issues. I was saying it last year that it’s an area of need. Quality over quantity, just because we have heaps of options in that area doesn’t mean they aren’t a big pile off sh1t.

God, that could be so perfect for the smug campaigner though. Burn relationships with other teams by openly pursuing captains and only caring about winning. Backflip on Merrett due to cost and bring in Oliver, burning relationships with player managers because you only care about winning. Have a toxic bloke in the club poisoning the youngsters, but it's fine because you only care about winning.

And then eventually it all falls down around him. Beautiful.
