Pretty interesting stuff here.

Pick 1 and 2 combined are worth 5481 points.

With a 15% discount that shifts to 4659.

suns picks currently(without Allen or Draper further impact):

P7: 1659
P14: 1024
P17: 879
P34: 360
Other picks no points.

Total points = 3922.
Which probably loses another 150-200 with further FA compo.

Now the petracca trade really spices things up.

Flanders may net them another 1500 points if saints give up pick 7, but that seems overs to me. Ideally he chooses Melbourne, then the trade may be Flanders + pick 7 and gc are really in a pickle then.

Patterson is very much a live option with the petracca situation and if eagles play the bidding game smart.

Believe it’s 10% discount but either way it really is straight forward:

GCS give pick 7 for picks 17 and 24 OR:

1. Patterson (matched)
2. Uwland (unmatched)
3. Duursma

Essendon has cooked it youngsters, alienated it older players and are selling a 30yr old who doesn't want to be there.
Hird like always has lived in his own little nepotist bubble.
And Essendon will be shit for years to come. Scott will pack his bags in 2-3 years time and **** off forever.
I think he will be gone sooner than that. Essendon feels entitled to making finals. They are pretty quick to sack coaches who fail to get them there several years in a row.

I think they wouldn’t match Patterson in that scenario knowing what would come next. But either way the cards have fallen beautifully for us to take advantage.. either clean up another top 10 pick or walk away with duursma and Patterson combo.

If Clarke fks this up he needs to be sent to the moon.

Won't be able to do that, got to give them more points or a future pick to muddy the waters or it's too obvious we're breaking the rules.

Look, it's not too hard for GC either way, they'll just go into deficit (they can go up to about 1700 points in deficit). But they will miss Addinsall if they do this and give up their F1 to make up the points (I can see their F1 being on the table as a result).

To be honest, to get all three, they need us not to bid 1 or 2. Otherwise it's all over for them (without crunching the numbers, Richmond bidding with their picks might also make it very, very difficult).

Of course, if they get Petracca in without trading out quite a bit of talent for more and more points (you'd assume that at a bare minimum a Trac trade eats pick 7), then they will not have enough points to even go into deficit.

So bidding one of their players at 1 puts at least one of them back on the board. So you can see why Patterson would be thinking he's likely bound somewhere else. GC would have already told him it's reasonably likely.

They're really, really squeezed.

Maybe the AFL has actually got the points system not too far off right now?

Feel like it’s important to note that whilst the Suns are trading for Petracca, they’ll also be trading out Flanders, Rosas, potentially Ainsworth and Fiorini + Humphrey is unlikely but still a chance if he pushes hard.

I can’t see a world where they don’t match on Patterson, but his comments were definitely interesting.

I think Addinsall is the one we could poach if we were willing to reach on him, I feel he has been very under rated, he’s a very good and balanced midfielder and has been for several years now - not saying to bid on him with our first two picks, but if we moved up a few spots, he’s worth considering.

It’s really not. Anyone other than Bonnie Clarke gets on the phone to GCS:

“Hey guys, like every year we’re looking at HBFs with midfield potential so just wanted to let you know out of courtesy for your draft planning that Uwland and Patterson are being discussed. We love local boy Farrow but unfortunately we don’t have a pick in his range. What’s that? Pick swap? 7 for 17,24 so you have two picks you can split or trade for your targets? No worries. Wow, just also realised that potentially saved you 1,341 points or the equivalent of pick 10.” That would be handy getting Petracca and keeping Humphrey.”

Nah, the points would need to be higher than 7/future involved or it’s pretty obvious. Definitely should strong arm the suns though.

A lot of moving pieces for the Suns but we should make it clear. We want to be looked after.

I would bid on Uwland first as I prefer Patterson for our list build and they are viewing Uwland as the captain to take over from Noah and will 100% match. I would not be bidding on Addinsal as it’s not worth the risk.

FWIW - I do not expect the Suns will need a R1 to match in the 2026 draft so no drama selling a future or going into deficit.

They will be getting picks of value for Rosa, Flanders and possibly Fiorini. We can make it easy and make them an offer for Davies they can’t refuse and then their problems go away. We bid on Annables at 1. I’d happily take him as well.

What they pay for Petracca will depend on how much salary Demons absorb. The Humphries twist is interesting.

The Suns are allowed to split a pick however they want. If Flanders goes to the Saints for pick 8 maybe 8 and 17 get Petracca then they split 24 for more points.

If they allow Norf to pick McKercher at 2 then bid on Walter at 3 in consecutive picks and think that’s not clear tampering then this is a slam dunk.

I think launched into the sun is the preferred outcome

1700 was the old defect maximum, this year and beyond it is 1167.

eaglevision was right also that it’s now a 10% discount, meaning suns need almost 4900 to match bid 1 and 2.

Unless they clean up with their outgoing players, losing pick 7 in petracca trade makes Patterson a live option.

And while going into deficit isn’t a terrible option for gc, it will hamstrung their ability to be overly active in the trade period and given they will be in their window that’s a bad outcome.

Depending on what happens re Petracca (+ GC open list spots) it could mean 26&27 1sts are dangled.

F1 is probably rated 15-18, I wouldn’t be opposed to having a crack at it with a bundle of picks (probably live draft night trade). That may mean seeking 2025 picks for Ryan and Chesser rather than futures.

We’ll probably do the stupid overs trade for Starcevich (Ideally someone at WC finally realises Bailey Smith was OOC therefore worth 17 last year… so 25ish after compo is a huge overpay), but if not we will have a lot of points to leverage with the northern nepo babies.

Splitting pick 24?

Which will slide past 30.

That isn't going to generate much is it?

I guess that is why GC are shopping Ainsworth around. Bet we will see a few other GC players move this trade period too.

We should be going super hard at Walter and Davies. Throw some serious cash at them to turn their heads.

Pick 2 plus 34 and all the Suns problems go away plus they have pick 2 to land another gun. Take Robey to replace Humphrey's if he wants out.
