maybe, they have 4 good prospects in the 1st 2 rounds this year, but maybe a couple of 2nd round talents next year probably.
If they want to get their Academy players this year they can trade out some stocks of next years.
Or they could trade Davies or Humphreys to us to get some more picks, or we could take Patterson!
Wasn't Humphreys seen with Melbourne coachs yesterday picture probably snapped and leaked by his manager .

What would that do to a petrecca trade ?

Humphrey probably the best suns under 22 and on a long term deal .

Straight swap ?

That’s not GCS’s problem, the picks they split it into for points will be used when the bid is made.

There will be a number of teams looking to consolidate picks and move up the draft order.

It is their problem because clubs know that pick 24 will slide. So it isnt worth as much in reality.

What do you feel clubs will offer for pick 24?

Just feel GC aren’t doing the right thing here. Losing Humphrey and Ainsworth seems silly

Yeah kinda feels like the decision to bring in Petracca on big money has left a few of the players there unhappy and looking elsewhere.

Watch Pattersons highlights if you havnt. Kid could be a superstar. He is my favorite in the draft.
He's all outside, which means he's limited. He'll be great in a top 4 GC side. He's an athletic beast. But in a bottom 8 side, he'll struggle.

First pick on day two I think there will be a huge market for. It would obviously be even more valuable if the Suns decided to pass on Patterson (due to Petracca trade) and use it to match Addinsall et. al. Essendon for example may offer 27 and 30 if there’s a player they really like and 25-35 is the range a Sweid bid is most likely to come which could burn their picks. There will be plenty of other clubs that chat overnight and want to trade up for a particular player.

If they do match Patterson every club knows how valuable the first pick of night two is, there will be no shortage of offers for it.

Im lost. Did I miss a trade assumption earlier. How do the Suns get the openning pick in round 2?

We traded that out?

Ainsworth got a big contract last season so dont think its that. I think Gold Coast gave him the tap on the shoulder because Petraccas coming in as he opposed to Ainsworth being unhappy himself

Humphrey just wants to go IMHO. Loving the attention. He was always a flight risk. They should be letting him leave and turning Humphrey into Charlie Curnow . Dont wait til 2028. Rowell is contracted now so swing for the fences

Do we get involved with Sydney if they are in the hunt for Charlie Curnow?

Pick 2 would be good to throw up as bait for Sydney to try and grab to then flick to Carlton for Curnow I think.

Rowbottom been thrown up as someone who could be moved on and would fit us perfectly. A deal like

  • Pick 2 for Rowbottom + 10 + F3rd
  • Pick 2 to Carlton for Charlie Curnow

Flanders to the Saints.

Presume for pick 8.

Makes it even harder for Steele to get midfield minutes

A swap of Ryan for Steele makes sense for both clubs IF we can convince Steele to relocate. I’d consider offering him a 3 year deal to extend the existing two years he’s contracted for at St Kilda

Its basically negligence if he isnt seen in W.A touring our facilities at this point

I know people are having a laugh at what I said, but let me explain it properly.

If Sam Draper leaves through free agency, there’s a strong likelihood Essendon gets a first-round compensation pick — and given where we sit, that’s potentially in the top 10. If Zach Merrett decides to explore a move, the return for a captain, All-Australian, and still in his prime would absolutely be another top-end pick. Combine that with the picks the club already has banked, and yes, it’s very realistic Essendon is holding 3 or 4 selections in the top 10 of the 2025 draft.

Now, layer that onto the fact this list is already one of the youngest in the competition. Hobbs, Perkins, Cox, Tsatas, Reid — the core is there. Four more elite juniors coming in fast-tracked around them, and you’ve got the makings of a list that can challenge within a few years.

Contrast that with West Coast. They’re getting priority pick discussions despite being the wealthiest club in the AFL. They’re not maximising their soft cap, they’ve had every advantage, and yet we’re talking about bailing them out. That’s the difference. Essendon’s rebuild is being driven by smart list management and tough decisions. West Coast’s is being propped up by AFL handouts.

You can call it delusional if you want, but it’s grounded in logic. And in the long run, Essendon’s position will be far stronger for it.
It's beyond delusional.

The only player you mentioned there that is remote chance of being elite is Reid. But he's super injury prone.
