I think we would need to bin on Uweland 1st to be a chance to get Patterson. Need the GC points to be exhausted by the Uweland matching bid so they let him go at a pick 2 bid.

Even then they can dip into next year's 1st round points by going into deficit. Not seen this before but nor has there been so many Northern Academy high end players
I dont think it matters who we bid on first, gcs know how many points they need and Uwland will be their priority.

They either have the points or they dont, bid on them in either order we'd end up with Patterson or none of then

People might have to get used to the fact that there is a strong chance we're not looking at taking Sharp with a top 10 pick.

I'm beginning to suspect that he's not what Mini is looking for. Yes we need an extractor, however i'm not sure this is the right draft for one. Perhaps the play is to bring one in from elsewhere over the off-season. If Dev can translate his VFL form in the guts to a servicable stop-gap extractor at AFL level (something he's not been given a chance to do at the Lions) then its worthwhile drafting with upside in mind with picks 1 & 2. Our stop-gap extractor doesn't have to be Dev, either. Something else might eventuate during the trade period. Or perhaps we're planning to trial Starc there for the pre-season and see what happens. Lots to play out yet.

I was sold on Sharp earlier in the year, but I'm less certain its the right move now. If we're going to make a jump from 18th into contention, we might need to play it a bit less "safe". I would even go as far as to say its riskier to take a limited extractor with average athleticism in the top 10, than it is to miss two bites of the cherry in high upside players.

Preference 1: Duursma & Patterson (the pipe dream)

Preference 2: Duursma & CDT

Preference 3: Duursma & Robey

Keep in mind, I expect us to have 3 picks inside the top 10 so have omitted Cumming, Grlj & Schubert as I think they could easily slip to our third pick. If we ended up landing Sharp with our third pick too, I would not be upset. Just as long as we have taken some high ceiling players first.
More or less my thoughts too, just dont think we go Sharp at 1 or 2.

We can find an extractor for a lot cheaper elsewhere

We should definitely bid on both Uwland and Patterson but in all honesty, does anyone expect Gold Coast not to match. Extremely unlikely

It’s possible if they’ve used up their points for that pair they might not have enough for Addinsall so he might shake loose later. But they aren’t going to walk away from Patterson or Uwland

Yeop. Pick 7 for our later picks to give them the points.
We should be able to do that without Gold Coast passing on Patterson. I would expect it is in the Suns' best interests to get more out of such a deal. I just don't see why they would willingly pass on him.

We arent selling our club good enough. We can offer

More money
Best facilities in the AFL
100k members
Packed optus stadium
Opportunities
HJ franchises
Growth with a team
Our track record of flags
In reality, we’re likely 4-5 years away from competing. It’s a hard sell to anyone when their career could be over or towards the end when we start competing

Why would players really care about 100,000 members?

Flag track record means f all. That’s history

Saw this on the Bombers board when the Draper compo was announced as pick 20.

Depends how much they’d have to give up for JUH.

Petracca and Flanders a net zero at best with Petracca possibly costing more. JUH for one of the teens picks? 17?

Without other outgoings that leaves them with 7, 14, 35, 61 to match two top 2 bids.

Have they considered that Draper is a sled dog of a player who offers next to nothing on a consistent basis, is coming off a major injury, and still got a higher pick than our freebie. On your bike Bombers.

I doubt they have to give up much, if anything for JUH

Bulldogs want him gone and he’s a massive risk for the Suns.

Assuming Oscar gets us band 1, I have it that the Suns will have 3,669 points with picks 7, 15, 18 and 36.

Uwland at 1 and Patterson at 2 totals 5,481 discounted to 4,932. So they are short only 1,264 pointr.

I suspect Petracca will cost them 2 R1 picks depending on how much salary if any the Dees want to absorb. I also think Humphries is an option and there will be calls for more but Petracca has a heavily back ended deal and he is 30 next year. Dees will want more but Petracca on big $$ liability for Humphries sounds like it should be simple swap. Remember, Dees offered up 3 R1 picks for him in the draft year and he has proven he has that ability, now he needs to add consistency.

Here are their other options for adding points.
Flanders to St Blunders - pick 8 from Saints worth 1,443 (but SOS is a jerk so expect them to give something back)
Rosa jnr to Sydney - expect a R3 pick 51
Fiorini to Port - expect an end of R2 at best compo pick, say 43
Budderick to Dogs - no obvious pick but expect near on a couple of hundred points

The above options gives them nearly 2,000 additional points

Just what happens with Humphrey and Petracca could be anything.

Suns will not need their F1 to match an academy bid next year so they could easily sell their F1 to Blues for 10 (probably need some balancing in the deal) but that is another 1,276 points.

I think there is zero chance they do not match Patterson at 2 assuming Uwland at 1. Addinsall is a prospect that will not go before 20 meaning he is likely to cost max of 550 points.

Nah the other way around.
We know they will take Uwland no matter what as they have big bro at the club already and he’s the higher ranked player.

Will they pay 2700 for Patterson though?

They’ll know from the get go if they can afford both or not so they might be more inclined to let Patterson go if they can’t afford him and they get Uwland even cheaper as he won’t be pick 1.

I’ve been keenly following the hot mess of a thread about Zac Merrett, my two least favourite sets of fans punching on with entitlement seeping out of every pore on each side of the divide

Toxicity in the air

Duursma measuring in at 193 and clocking a pretty good 2km time has me very keen.
Excellent overhead, floats over the ground, good transition player. Think he suits the modern game and complements our existing guys very well. Add in his comments about him being happy to move to Perth and I wouldn't be giving essendon or anyone else a look in tbh

Now with Pattersons comments I'm I'm dreaming about the Duursma/patterson combo.

Is there a world where we grab 7 from GC and sharp drops to that pick? Probably not, pipe dream stuff, but Duursma/patterson/sharp; that would be a banger of a draft

No chance in Hell.

Bulldogs will give him away.

I can't see Sharp getting past the Bombers - Tigers maybe.
Tigers seem keen on Grlj (played for Richmond in the VFL) and a Robey-type.

The Bombers would be left with pick 8 or 9 where Sharp is clearly the best player left on the board.

I would also dream of Sharp being available at GC first, but it's a pipe dream IMO
