Patterson a pipe dream :(
GC would be crazy to let him go, even if it means trading away future picks or going into points deficit. Sharp is a very realistic chance to be available at 7 I reckon.
He might be available at pick 7, but that will likely be where the Tigers or Bombers are picking.
Gold Coast's pick will end up being pushed to pick 10 (or even 11) where Sharp is almost certainly off the board.

I agree with all of this

But if hypothetically we ended up with 1. Duursma, 2. CDT and 7/10/11 whatever Sharp/Lindsay, would that be a win?

Should be putting the work into Jack Steele right now and helping him realise that his old club don't want him, they want Liam Ryan. We want him, have a role for him and see him as a guy who can help return our club to where it belongs.

He's a St Kilda guy for gods sake. Currently betting on a sudden rise up the ladder, potentially basing that off residual endorphins from that final quarter come back against Melbourne, getting Nas to stay for 2 more years, overpaying for 2 Carlton guys and poaching Gold Coast's 5th best mid....despite the fact that they have told him to try and find another team.

One of Sharp, Cummings , Greeves or Robey should still be available at that Gold Coast pick.

Can’t see the point of CDT.

Bloke is neither a ruck or a forward and won’t be any good for years.

How can a team in such a dire state as ours waste such precious draft capital on a player like this.

F3 for a contracted best 22 player ... Forget it.

You could see this coming a mile out. Who knows what conversations went on behind the scenes. Maybe it hapenned and we don't know. But we should have been trying to blow this up a while ago and tell Ryan to look for another club. It was obvious they were going to try and low ball us.

Ryan will probably blame WCE if the trade doesn't go through but it is really his managers fault for not getting guarantees from St Kilda that they were going to make a serious offer to us before he nominated them.
If saints are going to offer silly contracts they need to pay the price for a contracted player .

Happy to be corrected but I'm 90% sure that RFA's cannot nominate for the PSD, they have to go to the National Draft.
Only if they exercise their right to free agency and it is matched by their existing club .
If he doesn't go through free agency and just a trade he has the same rules as other uncontracted players

I'd rather keep Ryan (even if he spits the dummy and sits out the year) than take a F3 for him.

I don't want him back though - too lazy and we want guys like Brockman/Dewar/Champion to have room to develop in his position. I'd be telling his manager to line him up with another club (Carlton? Bombers? ).
A f3 from stk would be worse than band 5 compo we would easily get for him next year .

In that scenario it's just better to have him another year

The whole Patterson thing is a really interesting opportunity. Depending on how the Petracca, JUH, Humphries and Flanders trades go GC might actually be in a situation where they would need to go very heavily into defecit to match bids at 1 and 2. Will they want to burn most of their 2026 draft hand to match a Patterson bid, while also potentially missing out on Addinsall? If not, and we do end up with Patterson, one positive is that all of the non club-tied players shift down a spot in the draft (essentially a club-tied player has taken the spot of the non-tied draft order). That could be the difference between getting both Sharp and Cumming with the hypothetical Essendon picks.

If we think that Patterson is a possibililty we need to play real hard ball with the trade for GC's Port R1. If they won't trade it to us for close to points face value, we could potentially trade for Carlton's TDK compo instead and end up with Patterson, Cumming, Sharp and Schubert on draft night. The way I see that happening is:
  • Bid on Patterson with Pick 1. I think this makes it more likely for them to not match, as they're more likely to match him at a cost of 2233 points (at pick 2) than at 2700 points. This is assuming they will definitely match any bids on Uwland, which they would be anticipating is our next step after bidding on Patterson.
  • If GC don't match the bid and we take Patterson, I think Essendon will be going hard for the next pick to use on Duursma. Them trading 5 and 6 (or whatever they now are after a Patterson and/or Uwland bid) for pick 2 might not be likely, but we might pull it off without having to sweeten the deal too much (maybe adding Hawk's R2?). This is more likely if they like what they see from Duursma at the combine, his extra height and 2km time are a positive start at least.
  • Richmond seem to be most into Robey, Grlj and XT, hopefully their two picks are a combination of them.
  • We take Sharp and Cumming with the Essendon picks.
  • Then we need Schubert to get through the next three picks. I don't think Hawthorn would take him with their pick, and I'm not sure what Melbourne would do (they'll have at least one of those picks from the Petracca trade). I'd be a little worried if North end up with the St Kilda or Port R1 pick via Gold Coast, maybe they go for CDT instead if he's still there.
At the end of the day, it's very unlikely GC don't match Patterson, but if they don't end up trading us the Port R1, there's nothing for us to lose by having a swing at Patterson, except having to hold onto 1 and 2 and not split either of them before the draft. If they do match bids on both Patterson and Uwland we can just proceed as we would have if we hadn't made the bids (and maybe even bid on Annable too), and at least we've taken a whole load of picks out of the draft with the bid matches.

Patterson has speed, moves well, good step, but has an average kick at best and misses too many targets by foot and hand. We get burnt off turnovers off half back as it is.

If Twomey is right and Cumming has slid to 15 because of his shoulder injury then he's a steal. He looks like probably the most complete natural midfielder in the draft. He wins clearances with strength, or on the burst running through the stoppage (1.30 mark), or can start shoulder to shoulder at center bounce and take the ball from inside to outside and then deliver (2.00). Sharp is a ball hunter but his ceiling could be a Worpel type of mid with his below average skills. I don't think we need a 30 possession bloke in there these days anyway if they can't kick. I'd rather 20 high impact touches and rotate through half forward and then impact there too.

Thats not what the .4 means. Its an average number of goals per game to 1 decimal place. Its not 1 goal 4 behinds per game.
Total career goals and behinds scored divided by total games played. Using the same calculation Phillip Matera scored
389 goals 227 points and divide that by 179 games played the result is an average of 2.17 per game
Now that is elite, Watson isn't elite by that comparison. Marc Lecras played 219 games and kicked 441.253 which is 2.01 per game. Ryan is nowhere near elite nor consistent by comparison to those 2 eagles. If Ryan didn't go missing in a lot of games his stats would be a lot better.

Chris Judd slid from 1 to 3 in his draft year also due to concerns with shoulder injuries.

The bombers are as desperate as us for mids, so Sharp probably wont last past their first picks, assuming they keep 5 and 6. A few are predicting/hoping they trade for our 1st (Duursma). But if that doesn't happen, it sounds like Sharpe could be a bomber. They are so desperate for mids, they are talking about Andrew McGrath to the middle next year, which has never worked in the past for them.

Tigers on the other hand I've read, aren't as interested in Sharp as they have Josh Smillie who they think is a very similar type.

I think he will be gone sooner than that. Essendon feels entitled to making finals. They are pretty quick to sack coaches who fail to get them there several years in a row.
Such a joy to watch their Groundhog Day implosions.

Too proud to rebuild. Sitting just outside the 8 getting middling picks diluted to fk by f/s and academies.

Thinking they can geelong their way into a flag.

And the kicker is, even if they commit to a rebuild Tassie will screw it for them.

Isn't that the year tassie come in and get a ton of 1st rounders ?

Wait 2 years for pick 25

People need to be patient and think outside the box. F1s have been under rated for years.

In 2020 Pies traded in from GWS picks 24,30 and Cats F4 for their F1. That F1 ended up pick 2. The player GWS took? Finn Callaghan.

Last year Norf got pick 27 and what’s going to be a pick in the 30s this year for pick 3.

The fact is Saints have SFA draft capital to satisfy us. Happy to take their 2027 1R in a draft with Walsh and Abbonizio.

That's terrible

Values flanders at pick 4 and we give ryan away for free

17,24 for 7 would be great but it’s less points for GCS than they are losing. If we actually have the competence to leverage bidding then GCS should take that deal. Fact is list management probably don’t so we need to add something.

With the Patterson thing what we actually need to happen is for Patterson to privately and publically say he doesnt want to play for Gold Coast.

Once he publically says it Gold Coast are not matching.... The aesthetics of how that will look is insanely bad on them. Puts the academy they have into question a little bit...

Just dont have 2 F1sts the Eagles recruiting staff will have to choose from

"I dunno, Demons seem to be taking some chances. Brisbane on the other hand I mean they just won the premiership. I reckon they are too tired to win it again. Alright its settled, we are taking Brisbanes F1st over the Demons"

Hey guys sorry if it’s already been mentioned.
Thought the Oscar Allen deal would of dropped by now.
Could something been in dispute like length of contract and money which is influencing pick 2 ?
