2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I don’t think Dursma and CDT are the best fits for WCE. Would WCE consider 1+2 for Dons 5+6+2026 F1. Would say get them SA boys (Sharp + Cummings - better list fit) + a second top 10 pick in 2026 draft.
No.

Duursma we absolutely need. CDT not so much though. You don't give up the clear best player in the draft for a lesser bunch.

You just pick the best player at pick 1.

Could Cole be the other one with Cripps? I wouldn't be opposed to saying "we'll give you an additional 50k for your troubles in the DFA/RD process" feel like Barnett is too young and a position of scarcity that he might get nabbed by someone.

Just confirm for me does prelisting NGAs prior to PSD impact the picks? Eg. Does prelisting consume pick 1 or is it completely separate? I was under the impression it was completely separate.

If a NGA player gets through the main draft without a bid we can add him straight onto the Cat B list - no need to use any picks

We need to move at least one player from the senior list to the rookie list, possibly two.

Unfortunately, the only way to do this is to delist the player then redraft in the rookie draft. There’s an inherent risk with this as another club can then sign the player as a DFA (like North did with Greenwood) or draft him in the RD (like the Suns did with Knobel)

Cripps then looms as the most logical option because it’s unlikely another club is going to pursue a 33 year old small/medium forward who’s probably only got one year left in him. And is unlikely to want to move

It’s not an insult as he still gets paid the same and there’s no practical difference between the lists

That said, and this is purely a guess, it won’t surprise me in the slightest if he decides to retire. Another year playing in a bottom four team who’ll lose more than they win with the prospect of spending some time in the WAFL. Almost all of his premiership teammates have gone and over half the playing list are ten years younger than him

Barnett and Johnston are the other two we could consider but that would leave us vulnerable to having a club poach them as a DFA - having pick 1 in the RD prevents a team picking a player before us

Who knows what the club will actually do though
Do you think we'd delist either of Barnett or johnston with no qualms if they were drafted elsewhere? I guess its a balancing act with next year and having enough list spots then too

Why not Cole and Duggan ? Starc and Young will replace them . Surely the club must know by now if Barnett is worth keeping. We've strengthened our backline thru trades and will hopefully do the same for the midfield in the draft. What are they going to do about the Ruck or doesn't the Miniball game plan require competent ruckmen ?

yeah for sure the club is going to move the captain to rookie list. i like your realistic suggestions.

Hold out for the max they can get for him, but they've got to move him on.

Can't have a disgruntled player at the club and also squander the opportunity to bring in an early first round pick.

He's 30 and they're not playing finals before he retires.

Pick 8 plus a second round is reasonable, I'd have thought given his age.

Already up to 2 first rounders

For mine, it's not on Hawks but on Bombers.

Their list is nowhere near competing for finals. They should be maximising assets before Tas enter.

Merrett for Pick 8 and some change should have been enough.

Essendon have significantly overplayed his value.

Now they don't get a solid rebuilding chip, they retain a disgruntled ex-captain. Perfect for culture building...

When the Merrett meeting was outed the Bombers should not have acted like a jilted lover and instead jumped on the front foot and offered Merrett to whoever could strike the best offer. Allow any other club to court him. Open their options up and create some bidding.

But they threw the toys out of the cot instead.
Essentitled….

I'm glad Essendon are putting a line in the sand TBH.

Pick 8 and a seconder rounder is way unders IMO.

Take it.

The F1 ensures Walker next year.

Gives them pick 10 11 this year. They'll need to get rid of both of these because of the Dean bid. I bet they come for one of tigers picks. I know theyre keen on CDT, especially now Curnow leaves.
Looking forward to the melts in here when Clarke trades pick two to the blues for 10 & 11. Fire up campaigners.

But but but we convinced ourselves it would be 5&6.

Cole may spend more time in Beagles now, a good thing for Beagles. Duggan (VC) not going anywhere yet, maybe gone next year, be 29 in December.

Hope Essendon and Carlton stick to their guns and say your contracted and not going. It's high time the clubs put their foot down. The players seem to think it's a free for all now and you can swap and change as you feel.
Hold them to their signature.
It’s bonkers hey. Free agency has just eroded the contract so much that we might as well get rid of them

With the position Essendon are in they would be much better off trading Merrett out as long as it's for a good deal, I mean who would want to play with him anymore anyway?
Problem is the Hawks are trying to get him for unders because they're a bunch of campaigners.
