Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Why not Cole and Duggan ? Starc and Young will replace them . Surely the club must know by now if Barnett is worth keeping. We've strengthened our backline thru trades and will hopefully do the same for the midfield in the draft. What are they going to do about the Ruck or doesn't the Miniball game plan require competent ruckmen ?
There would be some chance of them being poached in the meantime - much more so than Cripps. It's why we couldn't risk it with Yeo, even though that would be logical if there was a way we could guarantee it.

(Someone would definitely take Yeo late in the ND as a "ha, look at this" pick)

They'd have to pay Yeo's current contract though.

Very pleased to hear we've identified Ted Clohesy as a potential mid. I've been interested in bringing him in for a while now, very good VFL form. Hope we land him 🎣
Ted Clohesy and George Stevens should both be in the mix with the other state league guys we are looking at. Would happily take some of Geelongs depth for free

This would be nice:

Ess Get Haw Pick 9 as part of Merrett trade.
Trade 2 to Ess for 5+9.
Trade 13+34+53 to Car for 10.

Draft:
1. Duursma
5. Sharp
9 & 10. Two of Cumming, Farrow, Dovaston
41. Williams
58. Banfield

Yes Fremantle are the best people to get list advice from given the amount of premierships you have.

Cheers for the advice.

Freo's list is 10x better than ours currently.

They are much more experienced than us when it comes to (a) having top 10 picks, and (b) trading out good players that want to leave your club.

The Neale/Lobb/Hogan off season ended up being a spectacular failure (lol) but Peter Bell handled it well at the time. Was happy to walk away from getting Hogan instead of overpaying. Hogan is a gun he just got Fremantled. Pick 2 for Weller, pick 10 for Hill, they have had some wins. Their problem has always been that every time they are a 12-15 win side they get ahead of themselves then fail (which is humorous), or inevitably the next player wants out. Jackson leaving this year would've been a disaster for them. But no one in their right mind is going back to the Dees right now.

With the position Essendon are in they would be much better off trading Merrett out as long as it's for a good deal, I mean who would want to play with him anymore anyway?
Problem is the Hawks are trying to get him for unders because they're a bunch of campaigners.
Essendon dug a hole for themselves. Rather than avoiding public commentary and de - escalating the bad vibe between Merrett and the club they ran their mouth publicly and escalated it. If they had de - escalated they could have preserved the option of keeping him if they didn't get a decent offer without there being internal conflict within the club. But they boxed themselves into a corner.

going out on a limb here, i think barnett is safe from being poached.

and welp if he is...

Donald Trump Shrug GIF by Election 2016

If a player is delisted, they become an UFA for life.
If Barnett comes good, we risk potentially lose him without any compensation everytime he comes out of contract.

Yes he's a potato now, but if he's being kept on for his final year, there has to be hope he can turn into a player.

If we did split 2 for say 5 & 6 would we then go to GC & trade 13 for there F1 as that would get them the points they needed this year to match bids.

Another F1 would be good with the bidding system changes & 13 blows out to around 17/18 anyway with bids. It's also looking like a stronger draft.
I must admit I don't get this thought process (not having a crack) but we need to improve our list as soon as we can.

We have picks 1 & 2 this year - use them this year and don't delay meeting OUR requirements. If GC have a problem matching bids, that's their problem, not ours. We need to be selfish at the draft/pick trading phase of the game.

Allen doesn't have the pack busting ability of Curnow. But he would have been free as opposed to the significant draft capital Sydney are having to offer for Curnow. So it's hard to understand why Sydney didn't try and get involved and make him an offer as a free agent.

Possibly gun shy already having a couple of injury prone talls. For band 1 compo it's a no brainer for WC that he goes wherever the money is offered. Had it been a lesser contract then Allen for pick 10 would've been fair.

An All Australian team of shit blokes would be tough.

The small forward line in particular would be competitive with Papley, Watson, Ginnivan and Greene. May and Zorko down back as well.
Attempt at a side

B: Rory Lobb - James Sicily - Noah Balta
HB: Dayne Zorko - Steven May - Brayden Maynard
C: Jordan De Goey - Jason Horne Francis - Jake Stringer
HF: Jack Ginnivan - Taylor Walker - Toby Greene
