He's in his prime.

The new Essendon president came out on his first day and said he won't be traded.
The coach and list manager backed him up.

It's an average offer as well.

I just can't see it happening.
If Essendon don't take the offer on the table which scenario is more likely in the following 12 months.

Merrett takes it on the chin, rises to new levels of motivation and fitness, has his best season ever setting PB's all over the place, apologises to his team mates and tries to win back their trust and therefore his trade value is even higher in 12 months time or he decides he is happy to play out his career at Essendon and never play in a final again.

Or Merrett cracks the shits and sulks, plays like Tim Kelly next season where he is just going through the motions, doesn't chase or tackle, just cruises around picking up cheap possessions, is the focal point of bad morale and discontent generally within the playing group, has another blow up with the club at the end of next season when he asks for a trade again but this time the best offer is Pick 20.

There was an article with Hollands last week where he pretty much said he wasn't out partying on the gear like it's been rumored he was sitting at home drinking by himself. No one knew because he was doing it because he started isolating from everyone because of his mental health.

Also mentioned that theres a family history there with this sort of stuff.

End of the article said Carlton might delist him anyway if he can't find a new home but I'd be keen on offering him a train on spot and seeing if we can get the best out of him.
His brother plays for the same club🤔

I would think GC would actually be keen and want to approach us to upgrade our 13 to 7 with our 41 thrown in.
You know "in good faith" that we don't bid on anyone at 1 or 2 meaning the don't need to come up with 5500+ points to get their top 2 players.
Knowing they are at least saving 1250 points should mean something to them.

I've just heard this idea on Tradies and I'm trying to get my head around it. I get that Essendon might not be interested in any more picks in this draft but why would they accept Hawthorn's and Collingwood's F1's? Surely they'd want something with a bit more meat on the bone.
So they're basically going to do bombers what they did to us last year, except actually giving them a heads up.

They pissed off Conners big time last year.
Now Petroro!!

Is this the beginnings of clubs taking some power away from the managers?

I still can't work out why he is so highly rated. Is he an industry plant designed to nullify one of our picks?
It's a Scooby Doo scenario. When he gets drafted and he gets up on the stage with the top 10 picks, Fred and Daphne pull his mask off, and low and behold, it's revealed he is Kevin Hart. "If it wasn't for those meddling kids".

It's not for the AFL women to say. They don't share a dressing room with him. You can't punish a man forever, except for the most heinous murders. If a club takes him (I suspect it won't be an AFL club), the ladies need to simmer down.
What an out of touch and unsympathetic thing to say

Hawks did that with us last year.
Would be very funny if the not as young as you’d expect Hawks, who became the first club in history to not debut anyone last year, just kept kicking their first rounder down the road and ended up with a big gulf in their list profile.

Clubs need to be very careful if they include any 'good faith' clauses.

Anti-Collusion Measures: The AFL explicitly prohibits agreements between clubs that undermine the draft or trade process, including any form of bidding collusion. During the trade period and draft, every executed trade triggers an AFL review via an online meeting with list managers. They are questioned about potential links to other trades or "bidding agreements" to detect side deals.

This was strengthened in recent years to block "potential bidding collusion," particularly around high-profile prospects like father-sons.

No place for these sorts of comments.
You can't punish people forever. He will unlikely get a chance in the AFL, and that is fair enough. VFL/WAFL level? Maybe not. But how far do you want to go? The guy did 2 years worth of rehab and the AFL signed him off. At some point, a club might give him a shot, which means some people will have to suck it up. We can't go through life demanding everyone cater to our whims.

Cumming and dovaston wont be there.

At picks 6 Essendon, 7 8 dees. Both clubs losing mids in trade and needs mids like us.

In open draft here's my top 8.

1 Duursma
2 CDT
3 Robey
4 Grjl
5 Sharp
6 Taylor
7 Cumming
8 doverston
9
10

Leaves Lindsay, HH, farrow Greaves Shubert, marsh philapoo.

Maybe take Shubert and phillipoo then.

Personally I'd prefer to go 2 13 for 5 6.

Duursma
Sharp
Cumming.

34 for bid match or maybe a slider.

Would be happy with Schubert and Farrow at 9 & 10 if we had those picks.

For mine 5+6 isn't a good enough return for 2+13. Maybe 2+13 for 5+6+F2

Very easy for someone unaffected by his behaviour to say. I didn’t refer to your comments about redemption btw, but to your comments telling others to calm down. Totally unnecessary and reeks of ignorance. Don’t see why you’d want to go in and bat for Thomas of all people anyway.

It’s not about the player, it’s about your shit take on the matter.
You’re the real tool champ!

He's got some elite traits. If I was a player, I wouldn't be overly keen to share a dressing room with him. As a supporter, I don't want him. But if another club takes him, I don't have an issue. He's passed all the AFL's criteria to play again - a two year process. It's not for the AFL women to say. They don't share a dressing room with him. You can't punish a man forever, except for the most heinous murders. If a club takes him (I suspect it won't be an AFL club), the ladies need to simmer down.

There is a bit of a racial element going on with the TT situation as well

Can't see the same vitriolic attitude towards him returning being taken with a player of a lighter colour IMO
