2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I have no idea what this is trying to say
haha I was just posting about if sharenburg from Adelaide was training with us and as I posted it I read the post above mine that was saying sharenburg has fatal flaws and should not be looked at basically.

I typed too fast and squiggled the letters 🤪

He won’t get to the psd it’s simply a game of who blinks first between both clubs.
In a world where that happens - only if he has any interest in coming to WCE.

Sounds like we were in the race, so perhaps, but no point picking up a player that is committed to another club and would rather not he playing for you.

I think it’s very unlikely that Gold Coast don’t match bids for Uwland and Patterson and despite some rather odd trades in the past they have proven themselves to be very adept at collating the points needed to match bids

So I doubt we get Patterson

But by trading out 7 and 8 with only 24 coming back as is being suggested, they’re leaving themselves vulnerable. Especially if we lodge bids with picks 1 and 2
Further to this, Riley Beveridge noted that all the list managers he had discussions with yesterday indicated that there will be a lot of picks moving around today - more so than usual for a deadline day by the sounds.

You'd think the Suns will be looking to get involved in this to some degree.

If Adelaide walk Ah Chee to the pre season draft, surely we just nab him. Should easily be able to afford whatever price he puts up?
I’ve posted previously but if the Dom vs Justin impasse continues the second trade period ends we need to call Ah Chee and sell the dream. Contract won’t be an issue.

If we can’t sell the dream we buy the dream.

This seems somewhat likely doesn’t it.

Those who are unwilling to part ways with 2 must feel strongly that it has to be one of CDT or Robey. I suspect Sharp is still there at those picks at this stage.
That's what I'm wondering. I still think it's risky to make that trade but the club will know who everyone is after.

I actually want Banfield more than Duursma so hope he doesn't fall through the cracks

Given his qualities vs Duursma, Xavier Taylor and Harry Dean he represents exceptional value.

Dean is a man-child and too small to play as a #1 KPD, Taylor is a decent rebounding defender but too small to play KPD.

From where are they getting these picks?

Take out their top 10 picks supposedly getting traded and they only have 2400 points. They need pick 15 back to cover the points. Then consider list spots needed to hold a bunch of late picks (currently holding 5 point carrying picks, exc. 7&8).

And that's before their existing picks get discounted because of our bids.

It's gonna be tough.
Melbourne. They can do it. The Budarick trade the other day helped.

But everyone will be looking at that and seeing a buyers market for their picks.

I could see us trading out everything after pick 2 to GC for an excess from their hand in 2026/2027 (after all, they'll be in deficit anyway, so they don't want to keep those picks).

If we can't move 13 up then 13, 34, 41, 52 and our FF2 for 29, F1, FF1 and F2. Start setting ourselves up with draft capital for next year. We have the points, they need the points - we have the hand. Our risk is bids on Banfield and Williams, but probably an acceptable risk.

Essendon (21/27/30) are probably the only other club with picks that could interest GC.

(This would be a draft day sort of deal though as even with the player fire sale they've been doing GC probably don't have the list spots to hold all those picks)
Essendon aren't competition because they need two of those picks for Sweid and El-Ackhar.

I think Adelaide will cave
I think Brisbane might actually?

I know he gets the 2x premiership tax, but F2 seems is pretty close to fair value for Ah Chee IMO. I'd rate Liam Ryan > Ah Chee, particularly in a side with good forward supply. Perhaps another pick thrown in this year by Adelaide as a sweetener.

Otherwise it might go 16 + 48 for AhChee + 23

They would be running it tight, but if the Tracc deal goes down as reported with 20's picks coming back, they will end up like this.

That is small enough a gap in points for them to cover when you consider:
  • They get a 10% discount when matching
  • They can go into points deficit
  • They still have capacity to generate points by trading 15 back and concentrating picks in the late teens/early 20's.
  • The odds we don't call out Duursma at 1 or 2 is extremely low.

Beau Addinsall would be gone though.

They don't have 8 list spots available for that many picks do they?

Probably my preference over CDT. Undecided if I prefer him to Sharp.

In terms of whole draft rankings though I was surprised he had him over both GC boys.
Is Robey not a risky pick? What is his rise based on? His last month of football was excellent but it's come out of nowhere and was against other kids from a supposedly weak draft class.

CDT was ranked highly at the start of the year, looked reasonably solid throughout the year, had a decent VFL outing and did well at the combine.

Out of these two, it's CDT all day for me.

I took it to be you’d been on your namesake’s diet

If CDT had a very good outing in the VFL as a ruck then I'd be much more comfortable.

They've lost 10 players from this year's list, I reckon they'll be fine there. Petracca's the only player coming in.
Fair enough. Seems crazy that we're struggling for list spots as the bottom team but GCS with all their talent would go into the draft with 8 list spots available.

I think Adelaide will cave
I sure hope not, first round pick is a silly demand for Ah Chee. Adelaide has also tried to deal in good faith by getting a pick higher up in the 2nd round and Brisbane still won't budge off the first round demand. If they really want to be hard-arses like that then just walk him to the draft, teach Brisbane a lesson.
