2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

This is an interesting play by the Blues… they either think they can get ahead of a Dean bid or are going to offer 9 for a good F1 from a Dees/Roos/Bombers type.

We may not be able to get up higher than 13 without including 2 as part of a bigger deal.

Well that's a bad trade for Carlton unless there are other picks involved.

In a world where that happens - only if he has any interest in coming to WCE.

Sounds like we were in the race, so perhaps, but no point picking up a player that is committed to another club and would rather not he playing for you.
The sticking point I believe was ADE offered 5 years for Ah Chee and out bid WC.
The only way he gets to us is if they are too far apart and he would come to WC ahead of staying at BRI who offered him 3 years from memory.

Is Robey not a risky pick? What is his rise based on? His last month of football was excellent but it's come out of nowhere and was against other kids from a supposedly weak draft class.

CDT was ranked highly at the start of the year, looked reasonably solid throughout the year, had a decent VFL outing and did well at the combine.

Out of these two, it's CDT all day for me.
CDT kicked his 3 goals- basically from the goal square. Got a few cheap frees and 1 out the back.

Definitely not the solid game everyone has been frothing about. For a tall he has the mobility but not the chutzpah.

I’ve posted previously but if the Dom vs Justin impasse continues the second trade period ends we need to call Ah Chee and sell the dream. Contract won’t be an issue.

If we can’t sell the dream we buy the dream.
Just saw your post, what are you giving trade wise?

Andrew McGrath is a name I've been thinking about in this context. If you picked him #1 overall like Essendon did you're probably disappointed that you didn't end up with a star-calibre player, but at the end of the day you've still got a very solid 200+ game player. You're right, if you have top of the first round picks and you end up with a guy who is a complete non-contributor that really is a massive setback to the rebuild.
So taking a risk and missing is a huge setback to the rebuild and the McGrath type pick is the right strategy because Essendon's list build strategy is working so well?

Hearing Essendon are about to offer pick 5,9,22 for pick 1, which them accepting Merrett offer is conditional on.

I’d counter with 5,6,F1 for 1,13. See how much they want Duursma.
No way do we give up pick 1… would be stupidity…

Meanwhile Essendon have moved there room about to avoid the cameras

That might get pick 2 with a pick from us added but sure as shit ain't getting pick 1.

I'm a no Personally. That's the deal we should do for pick 2, we need Duursma.

That makes no sense for us. Given our squeeze on main list spots, we want fewer, higher picks, not more, lower picks.

In a year where there's no player who's head and shoulders above the rest of the field (like Harley was) I'd actually take that deal, if you were actually getting the 5th, 9th and 22nd best players. In reality those picks will be something like 8, 13 and 30, so no thanks.
