2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

If Clarke is talking to Gold Coast about getting in on the Petracca deal so we get pick 8 as a byproduct then that’s not a bad thing

Hearing Essendon are about to offer pick 5,9,22 for pick 1, which them accepting Merrett offer is conditional on.

I’d counter with 5,6,F1 for 1,13. See how much they want Duursma.
That’s pretty good. Okay we don’t get Duursma but that’s a quality rebuild kick right there.

Yeah I’m in with that

I'm not a doomer by any means when it comes to Clarke, but I do get anxious whenever there's a possibility of us doing something.

Pick 1 should be off the table IMO

Interesting the value of the top end players makes the Tim Kelly trade look very reasonable, although i gather it says more about the lack of depth in this years draft.

I think it's all about the environment. The club's in a shambles right now, Harley's barely able to keep his head above water and he was touted the best prospect seen in decades, so I'm a little ehhh on how guys who aren't quite up to his level will fare in our environment.

Depends on the day for me tbh, one day I'm like, yeah, take the best kid available, next day I'm like get a number of players for the pick cos we need as many highly talented youngsters we can get to kickstart this thing.

Well with picks 1 and 2 we can do both.

To be fair, the top of this years draft is all over the shop so Clarke can't make too much of a meal of it by splitting picks - unlike previous years.

That makes no sense for us. Given our squeeze on main list spots, we want fewer, higher picks, not more, lower picks.
I'm not saying that we should do this trade, but if a trade comes up that makes sense we can always open list spots by delisting players. We have a few that could go even if contracted at no loss to us.

2,34,41,52 for 7,8,F2 (MELB)
1,13 for 5,6, F1 (ESS)

5,6,7,8 and add the F1 and F2 for us.

2 goes to Melbourne for Petracca, GCS get the points that 24 from Melbourne would have got. Dees get CDT.

Or a threeway with melbourne for pick 1 or 2.

The only club I’d have any interest in trading pick 1 to would be Essendon - the only ones with the collateral and motivation to make it viable

Pick 2 for 7 and 8 which is the best Melbourne could get us I have reservations with

Petroro said the reported deal put to the Bombers was like nothing he had ever seen before for a player of Merrett's age.

"I've been lucky enough to be in this game for 23 years, I've never seen a deal like this for a 30-year-old," he said.

"For a club that's in a phase where they're focussing on youth, I would've thought three top picks is probably better than a 30-year-old to take the club forward." - Dylan Bolch

To me there is something very gross about a player's manager openly agitating to leave the club that he voluntarily signed a long-term contract with, let alone talking to the media and bagging out that player's current club for not accepting a trade offer.

Melbourne have shown they are the most serious about moving up to the top of the order in recent times with huge offers. They gave the best offer for Harley and I would consider their F1 extremely valuable.

1 for 7,8 and their F1, with an F2 or something going back would get me interested. I don't think there is that big a difference this year for us between 4,5 and 7,8.

Cant see any reason for WC to get involved today if its just trading picks.
Recruiters will be pouring over footage between now and draft day and as per natural human behaviour, will become stronger in their views of a certain player.
So if someone has a hard-on for CDT right now that will only increase between now and the draft & so will the offer

Ultimately that’s the job of a player manager, but it does feel the whole player movement thing is starting to reach a critical point.

I will have a level of respect for Essendon for the first time in my life if they don’t budge here.
