Inside Mids are high on our needs list.

Ben Hobbs - inside mid

"Nah, not for us".

He's a classic 25+, 5 clearances avge insider....
Hes gone over 25 disposals twice in 65 games.

He's a VFL/WAFL mid who isn't at the level.

SNAPSHOT: “A hard-nosed, hard-working inside midfielder who loves to compete both defensively and in a ball winning sense."

Ben Hobbs is a prototype inside midfielder who thrives on the contested ball and never takes a backwards step. A readymade midfielder who could step straight into a lineup from Round 1, Hobbs has been likened to Collingwood's Taylor Adams for his fierce attack on the ball, and high levels of defensive pressure, ball-winning abilities and consistency across the board. Like Adams, the knock on Hobbs is his outside game and primarily further improving his kicking to be more potent, but as a whole, Hobbs' ability to dominate around the stoppages is rarely matched in this draft crop.

Interesting draft profile when looking at Sharp where you can see why some have a worry

Still think Sharp is a couple of levels above as an inside mid

Ben Hobbs been delisted too! Bit of a surprise - though officially means we got more return for Chesser than they did for Hobbs.

Attitude problems have obviously been flagged as a thing but on talent and position would be worth it as a rookie spot IMO. Especially if being delisted and getting away from Melbourne mates was the mindset change he needed.
Really puts into perspective all the arguments we had over selecting Chesser. As I recall, the widely held view was we could have had Hobbs or Johnston from Freo. Well, Chesser has fled us after 4 very average seasons, Hobbs has been delisted and Johnston seems to be in and out of the side (not sure why - too slow?). Looks like it was just an average draft for mid/late R1.

I’m not sure we can realistically recruit more than one “inside midfielder who can’t crack his team’s CBD rotation and has had zero impact playing off a flank”. And we’re already committed to Dev.

Johnson is a level above both, he plays regularly in Freos midfield when hes fit

Yet he averaged less turnovers this year and has a much higher DE% than Chesser
Chesser takes harder options, even in a year where Chesser’s kicking was below his standard (adjusting to the pace of the level?), his threat and retention ratings were better than Johnsons.

Johnson is not very good, although I would prefer him to pick 41 🤣

I get we have Hall, but he is 50/50 at best to make it as our slower clearance + defensive mid.

As we are talking extra rookie spots (rather than high end draft picks) we probably can look at 2x guys for that position (as they will adequately support our WAFL development at worst).

But, if we take Sharp then no.

And no point if we want one to play HFF, inside mid or bust with Hall, Dev, Hobbs.
