Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

I've done more reading up on him.

Cal Twomey - CDT (3) - Position RUCK
ESPN power rankings - CDT (4) - Position RUCK
Zero Hanger - CDT (3) - Position RUCK/FORWARD
RookieMeCentral - CDT (6) - Position RUCK/FORWARD
MSN - roaming RUCK

Ruckety, ruck, ruck, ruck. What am I missing?

Well, yeah... but that's just, like... their opinion.

What do the real experts here on BigFooty say?

Next person to legitimately suggest we get Hobbs is getting punched in the dick.

The guy sucks.

They're celebrating over on the Essendon board.

it was obvious on draft night. if anyone recalls the video, he managed to slightly snipe at his sister who was excited for him.

I can see why these types no longer make it in afl. you have to have ability to cover ground at good pace, otherwise you are a liability.

If CDT really is 204 now (and possibly still growing) that really does change things.

We also have to remember that the clubs have all the combine info, whereas we just have the top tens. If, as someone said higher up, his jumps were just outside the top ten he's definitely more appealing, which is a good thing no matter what way we go. Either we draft a more appealing prospect, or there's more drive for say essendon to get silly and offer 5+6. Can't lose.

What a roller-coaster CDT has been:
  • Eagles linked to CDT with early picks. Makes sense, have seriously struggled there with Flynn/BJ.
  • Hang on. The bloke can't jump?? 200cm kid with no leap doesn't sound like NicNat's occa doppelganger. Liking the option to split pick 2 for Sharp and another top 10.
  • A potential 4cm growth spurt? Give me tickets to the 204cm CDT train!

It does seem unbelievable that we have had the worst individual season and worst run over the last 4 seasons any club has had in a long time. And our WAFL team is rubbish. Yet we are debating and struggling to find list spots. Maybe we need to be a bit more ruthless and cut our losses with non - performers a bit quicker. Don't let a small loss run on and become a big loss.

Could it be that we’ve done the deep cull of our list over the past three years, and the reason we’re tight for spots is they’re all kids on their rookie contracts or short first extension, and we have extensive high end draft picks to use eating into the spots more quickly?

We also added 2 players from the mid season draft this year

There are players who are not kids on the list who are not adding much. Owies, Cole, Cripps and Hutchinson to name 4 of them. They are not part of the clubs future and we all know it. I wouldn't cut them for the sake of cutting them just to add whoever is still available at Pick 100 in the draft.

But if there is a young player who has been cut by another club (like Ben Hobbs) who the coaching staff think is a 30% or better chance that they could add enough value to him to make him a best 22 player then it should be a no brainer to cut (and pay out if still in contract) players like those 4. I am not endorsing Hobbs. I am just saying, a club that has won only one game should have some ability to find a list spot if there is a young player available who might be worth investing in.

And i think given your form of getting everything wrong always when it comes to the clubs list maybe you should refrain from commenting on it. Lets not forget you were totally and utterly opposed to the cull you just mentioned. Everything was fine. It was all Covid's fault. And we were going to rebound straight back into the top 8. How did that work out? And you were the biggest Simpson barracker on here and thought he was the best coach ever ... until the day after the club sacked him and then you did a total 180 overnight and now it was totally justified to sack him. Admit it, you have no opinions of your own. You are an NPC who thinks everything the club does is 100% the right decision And if it changes it's mind and does something different tomorrow you completely forget your position from yesterday and start arguing for the opposite.

Was gonna respond to this…

…then saw this.

Your reading comprehension is worse than your writing if you truly believe any of that. And boy howdy is your writing a slog.

Think you can have a day off from this thread for the hell of it, give the rest of us some peace and quiet to discuss things like grownups.

Will.never cease to amaze me.

It's not like we need to cut too many more either. Barnett, Cripps off the main list, delist Owies or some other spud and you're done.

Four years for Hutch is astonishing, but he’d be on the list one way or another at this point, regardless of how long he had left to run.

Think most agree that massaging the Barnett or Cripps (or both) list spots would be good decisions.

I'd like to see Hutch settled in the forwardline. Wanted him as a midfielder but that hasnt worked out. We did select him after he showed form as a HF.

I think that late season free swing against Geelong clouded judgement, plus the desperate need for a wing, plus the logjam of mid-to-tall forwards.

He had some games in the midfield where you can almost see the vision, cracks in bloody hard, but has a serous case of fumbles in tight and couldn’t consistently find it.

Agreed he’d be worth a trial up forward again as a big tanked HFF. A bit land of the giants but Waterman and he can cover a lot of turf, Reid and Shanahan move pretty smoothly, so it’s hopefully not as immobile as it might be.

We've been pretty ruthless in letting Barrass, Allen and Ryan go, cutting Petrucelle, plus Witherden, Rotham, Trew, Jones etc the year before. There's a definite issue that we have a lot of unknown kids that we don't want to cut just yet. On the flipside, we could be a little more ruthless and retire Cripps, delist Cole, but unless there's a clear cut better option, I'm not sure what the benefit would be.

Never seen a poster so incapable of seeing a competing view without going on the immediate personal attack.

At least the first half of the season and preseason training, I would try and settle a lot of players into positions for the future.
Hutch - HF
Dewar - Wing and failing that, back to the forward line
A Reid - Ruck/ resting fwd
Gross - Midfield - Maybe start in beagles but just leave him in the middle.
McCarthy - Midfield. He can always go back to HB if that fails
Davis - on the other wing
Hough - Back Pocket manning up the small forwards

Just to name a few.
I think Baker is one of the few that can be used in multiple positions at this stage.

I really like our list but just think some of our players positions arent ideal.

And we need to be ruthless early on. Cole, Cripps, Duggan, Owies, Hall and Bo Allen starting in the beagles. Duggan perhaps bench but I wouldnt even use him there.

My starting line up would be

BP - Hough - H Edwards - Ginbey
HB - Starcevich - Young - Yeo
C - Davis - H Reid - Dewar
HF - Baker - Shanahan - Hutch
FF - Brockman - Waterman - A Reid/ruck

Mids - Hewett - McCarthy - Flynn

Bench - Graham, Maric, Champion, Kelly, Robertson

My main worry is the wingers and ruck obv. But I would like to settle Davis and Dewar on the wing for now.

This is obviously ignoring any new recruits we get from now until next year. Happy to add Duursma for Champion perhaps but we dont have him yet.
