2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

North turned him down, and they’re going into next season with Griffin Logue as one of their starting key defenders. Griffin Logue.
North are well known for making sound list management decisions. If he was another inside mid then they would’ve jumped at the opportunity

Think it's important we don't fall into the trap of trying to sign every delisted player available

I’d add:
Elijah Hollands 23
Tom Evans 19
Gabriel Stumpf 18

Worst case scenario is after a week we tell Hollands to pack his bags.

So to speak.
Tom evans will be the bolter at the draft. Doubt he goes to rookie.

Stumpf yep forgot him. Chance he gets drafted late.

Holland's on talent sure, on "within the four walls" not sure.

I view anything we get from him as a bonus, I would hope if he doesn’t play at least 15 decent games next year, that he pulls the pin before 2027 though.
Why would he give up all that money? Gaff, Sheed, Nic Nat, Shuey etc all stuck around far after they were clearly cooked. Sheed was still on our list this year for crying out loud. West Coast truly panicked when they gave Yeo three extra years after playing a handful of good games.

I really respect the players with honest self reflection who are sensible enough to realise the game has passed them by and to go out on a high note with pride.

Even Gaff was still saying in his last year that he wanted to play on. Sometimes someone has to tap these guys on the shoulder and be like nah mate you're done.

But seeing as Yeo is contracted for 2027, even if he plays 0 games this year I wouldn't be at all surprised if he sticks around. Money and fame are a hell of a drug and hard to give up.

Props to Riley Beveridge for calling out Hawthorn saying they had the most disappointing trade period after publicly chasing players but failing to secure a deal for any of them.

I did a bit of a deep dive into these stats the other night.

Bailey actually wins taps at a reasonable rate - higher than the likes of Xerri and TDK - but his hitouts to advantage was under 20%, the lowest of any recognised ruck with a decent sample size.

Flynn is comfortably the worst in the league in terms of hitout win percentage - which is bizarre because he used to be quite competitive in that stat. His hitouts to advantage rate is below average but within normal range (25-35%), but again is way down on what it used to be.

Hit outs to advantage stat is in the positive where you have good mids, who are confident and on the move.

Harley is our only mid that can get on the park and hunts the fall of the ball.

Even NN would struggle to make a few of our plodders look good.

Put peak Shuey in our midfield and BW's/Fynn's hits to advantage would skyrocket and they would look more competent.

That's the funny thing about footy, it's a team game and we are a pretty ordinary team.

Hawks effectively lost three players (albeit one was fringe and the other was depth) for a nine pick upgrade in the late first round.

If this was us, we'd be ropeable but most are saying they didn't want Zach Merrett or Worpel or CJ or Serong anyway as their copium.

It's not even just a 9 pick upgrade, they also dropped from pick 9 to pick 10 and lost a handful of second rounders to do that upgrade.

I don't see how anybody can paint their trade period as anything other than a failure. They lost depth and flopped on every A-grade midfielder they were chasing. It's not the end of the world because they still have a very good list, but for a team very much in the premiership window it would be pretty disappointing.

Best thing of Gettable was the link to a Harry Dean bid. Playing some games with Carlton to help move up to their pick?

They also made their list and draft hand worse

Hawks flew too close to the sun in purposefully trying to do the Merrett trade late to force Essendon to get the deal done

Still believe they're the ones that leaked the Oscar story early this year
100% they did. Far too many coincidences between Allen and Merrett.

Applies to the Eagles board too

Merritt seems like a FIGJAM guy, outshined a lot of spuds to win a few B &Fs at below par Ess.

Hawks dodged a bullet imo
I don't get that impression at all. I actually get the impression that Merrett was torn between loyalty to Essendon and wanting to win a flag. The lack of news suggested indecision on Merrett's part. If I'm correct, it says a lot about his captaincy though.
