It’s hard to find positive words to say about the Bombers, but this is solid. If the Hawks want to arrogantly go after oppo players and leak info, then they should expect the same to start coming back their way. Hopefully a few other clubs are putting some pressure on by dangling big offers to the Hawks top players.

Heard an interview with Sam Frost (Haw) and when asked if he'd be open to come to Eagles he went quiet and said he and his wife have definitely discussed and are keen to have an adventure 🤔

Sounded like he had chatted to someone.

Welcome Frosty! ☃️

Every club should be offering silly money to Hawks players. Hawks will lose some players and be forced to pay way overs for the rest. And all meetings with Hawks players should be leaked to the media.

Those who live by the hokball die by the hokball

Hawks are such arrogant campaigners, always have been a w***erish footy club. Couldn’t be a better fit for that prick Mitch to lead.

So good their dealings are starting to be given the cold shoulder by trade targets that value integrity in a club and good people. Hawthorn and Essendon trying to do a deal on a marquee player is just gross stuff on all sides. Somehow both lost - Hawks didn’t get their man they figured would have them contend and Essendon again fumbled a leg up on their rebuild with Tassie looming and a history of overrating their list and topping up with too many old heads. They also get to keep their best player that hates their guts and caused mutiny as he tried to escape such is the rabble of a culture they maintain.

It’s a beautiful thing as I have zero love for either of those clubs

Can't help but think they would've been better off making the offer during the trade period TBH.

Think it's important we don't fall into the trap of trying to sign every delisted player available

Imagine when we win the flag though.

"Against the comp that didn't want them!"

Bombers wanted a player involved and the only one that Hawks would put up was Hustwaite. Bombers would’ve surely been angling for a Weddle or at least Mackenzie or Lewis but been told no. It looks like the groundwork has started on Weddle for when Merrett requests a trade again in 12 months time. Plenty of other teams will be keen on Weddle too though.

Getting to the point that it’d be quicker to list all the delisted players we haven't been linked to.

  • Former Richmond cat-B ruckman Mate Colina
  • Untried Sydney defender Blake Leidler
  • <list ends>

I don't think any of the former, and current, captains at the club would have thought much of his little effort earlier in the year.

Woosha, Bunga, Shuey, Duggan - that just isn't going to sit well with any of those guys.

Respect lost and never regained.

....and I realise that is a 'thank goodness the Lions!' puff piece, but why has all media (including the club itself), not highlighted the risks involved in giving a 6 year deal, on big money, to a guy who has struggled to stay fit his entire career, missing huge portions of footy, especially during the decline of the team that wad supposedly built around him?...

He was pretty candid. Brisbane offered more money, West Coast offered what they thought he was actually worth. Pressure is on him now to get fit and perform. If he does, it was win-win for everyone. If he can't, WCE won the transaction.

As he said in the article, it was a business decision end of the day.

Eagles knew they would get pick 2, so why wouldn't we encourage him to leave.

Had we been contending, we would have made more effort to keep him.
No different to Barrass and Ryan really.

The club (WC) did well to keep quiet with #2 on the table.

even if he performs we won heavily. He would not be part of our next premiership and #2 was massive overs. Also a cultural clean out with Ryan

The other 17 clubs should coordinate and target 1 x best 22 hawk each with a huge offer lol. Disrupt the whole list. 😆

The people that were there before would've signed him up for 10 years, at $1.2m per year, just to keep him happy.

I reckon fans are overjoyed the club took a hard approach with a bloke wanting a fat long-term contract who couldn't even get on the park for half his previous one.

Fans have put up with the tripe the club has dished up since the start of Covid, including giving unwarranted contracts to blokes who didn't deserve them(even if we just did with Kelly and Hutch but that's a lot less than what Oz and Barrass were chasing...) and weren't doing anything meaningful to get the club back up the ladder again.

It's about time players started realising they're expendable assets and if their input doesn't match their contract expectations then it's time to find a new home, or take the lesser offer.

He's out of contract next year and they've sown the seed nice and early for Hawthorn to pay overs to retain him. If not, the constant news will be a big distraction.

Well-played by the Bombers IMO.
