2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Are you saying you dont think Geelong will bid with their 1st?

Because otherwise our only question is if there will be better options at 34. If Geelongs recruiters rate him as a 1st rounder, I find it hard to believe hes not better than anyone after pick 34
I don't think Geelong makes a bid there, no. Look at our mock draft and players like Marsh, Barker, Phillipou and NHH were all still on the board at that pick. There's a world where Josh Lindsay, a Geelong product, could make it to that pick as well. Perhaps Geelong rate Williams but he's been ranked in the first round fairly sporadically so far.

We always think we're the smartest in the room and it's worked out so well for us in recent years.
Recent years - it probably has.

Cadman or Ginbey + Hewett

Don’t trade the pick for HR away no matter what is offered

Try to trade up for Shanahan but fail (we were not paying Nth prices), then refuse to trade the pick used on him even though there were offers.

Too early to say on 3 for 12+14, but Baker won our B&F, Allen played a couple of games and had some moments, Smith obviously had that injury so is yet to debut.

I would take ginbey and hewett over cadman any day

Is there any chance we delisted 1-2 players this week but yet to announce?
I Hope Please GIF

"The Bombers could do a deal with the Suns, which would see the Dons package up pick 21 and 27 for pick 15. The Suns have a bounty of Academy players in their sights this year, including Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson, so securing enough points for those players is high on their priority list.

If that deal did occur, the Bombers could then try and trade pick 15 and pick 5 or 6 to the Eagles, but it is believed the Eagles would be more interested in a future first-round pick."

Liking that last line. Really hoping we manage to get more picks in the top 10 next year.
Guess we will see how desperate the bombers are for CDT. Personally, 5 and 15 doesnt excite me for pick 2. Make them handover pick 5 or 6 and future first if they really want CDT.

There's another option to explain the lack of opening an extra spot. We don't rate the draft, take two round one selections only (1 and 2) and trade 13 into 2026.

Or, that's plan A, but if someone we love is at 13 we take them (being happy to let the last NGA go if necessary). Otherwise we trade it out to 2026.

Ready for the blowback for the question...

But are we completely certain we need to even delist Cripps (or anyone) to do what we need to do?

Very hard to find actual solid info of our list situation, especially with the extra rookie spots

There is an advantage to keeping him on the main list and thats that a one year deal on the main list means we have someone else to delist from the main list at the end of 2026. If we free the spot and take someone in the draft we have less options next year as fewer and fewer on the main list are at retirement/delist stage.

Assuming we didn’t delist anyone and we have just the 5 spots, does that mean our picks in the 50s are officially gone ?

I'm not sure that holds up - We specifically used our picks in the Starcevich trade to get up to pick 13. Not sure we bother if our intention is to then move 13 into FY26.

If they want Williams, Geelong would need to using their R1 pick (currently 19) which might move back a couple of spots if Brisbane /Gold Coast move their R1 picks back a little

Based on where our picks 34 and 41 are likely to be at the time Geelong might bid, we’d almost certainly have enough points to match if we chose

Geelong would be rating Williams at or above the likes of O Taylor, Hibbins-Hargreaves, Barker, Ludowycke, Pickett and Addinsall who would all be available around their pick based on Twomey’s ratings. So he’s in pretty good company in that draft range

If we chose not to match we’d be prioritising the likes of Oudshoorn-Bennier, Byrne, Dalton, Rodriguez, Emmett and Curtin who project as possibilities at our 4th pick

It would mean Geelong see something in Williams that we don’t if we don’t match which would be a concern albeit that most rankings have Williams nowhere near that Geelong pick and plenty don’t have him even at our pick in the thirties

If we’ve used 34 to shift 13 higher up the order then matching becomes more difficult
Im a big fan of Tyler but if I had to choose between him and BOB, its BOB by the Flemington Straight.

I'm pretty annoyed we haven't cleared list spots for flexibility in the draft.
Our hands really are tied now for our linked players if multiple bids come, and we've lost a lot of flexibility in being able to take a slider/extra pick if somebody good was still around at our fourth pick.

This is the type of weak list management that I used to give the club the benefit of the doubt around, but át this point I can only assume it's another foolish move.

Gut feel is we end up with all our NGAs.

I think we match a Williams bid in the late 20s. No other bids except maybe on Evans who some clubs might see the value in him for a late pick given his potential.

Walley lasts and Banfield I think despite his late run also lasts
The thing I don’t like is assuming Williams gets an earlier bid and then one of Evan’s or banfield get a bid later on we match, then the other clubs will know that the leftover player could be taken if they wish and we can’t do anything about it. I really wish we had at least 6 list spots entering the draft.

I can’t imagine this possibility was lost on the eagles tho, so my suspicion is that someone like Evans they are only prepared to take should he make it to the rookie draft.

I'd pick Fred before Williams and Walley.

I can't believe they haven't when so many other clubs have done it.
Perhaps it's really because they don't want to hurt any feelings, but I thought we've moved on from that with Pyke taking over from Nesbitt.
Or were they afraid of the players being poached like Knobel last year? Seems very unlikely for players like Barnett, Johnston or Owies. Even more so for a player in his last season or so like Cripps. Guess we'll see if more players are poached this year.
A certain poster🔑 mentioned that delisting young players comes with a risk since they would be unrestricted FA's for life. Which might be a concern if they turn out good, but we can't be worrying about things they may never happen or may never become an issue.
I wonder if the club was spooked by any of these scenarios.
We'll regret it even more if we have to pass on one of our NGA's (and they turn out well) or we don't have any free spots available to draft a slider. Or imagine if we decide to pass on a player to ensure we can match a bid for Banfield, but he never even attracts one. We might have to make a few tough decisions on draft night(s) when we could've not even be facing those issues at all.
