are we definitely out on Luke Jackson? It does appear that Freo is in the box seat, but who knows. Everyone thought Buddy was GWS bound too.

Now that i have seen Culley, i am a bit more bullish on our prospects moving forward

If we take another contested ball winning midfielder with our first pick, the contested ball dynamic of our entire team changes

Assuming for a minute that Nic Nat is fit for next season (which isn't a given, granted), alongside Yeo, Culley and for examples sake, Hewitt, that will give us some serious grunt all of a sudden at stoppages with our onball division

Shuey to move to a more permanent role at half forward (if he plays on), Sheed to alternate between the middle and half forward. Gaff and Kelly to play on the wings. Redden for depth

Dare i say it, there's hope

I’d look at Shuey off the hbf.

Got good wheels, good by either foot and happy to mix it up in close. With Jones as other flank/pocket we’ve got some run and carry out of defence again.

Yeo to the midfield with the growing support crew.

Forward line small set with Ryan, Rioli and Cripps. Losing JK will be a hurdle (JD plays a different style) to overcome. Allen’s return will offset JKs departure and JW as other tall and we look reasonable up front too.

Ruck strength is our medium term issue - assuming we draft well this draft.

Can’t say we’re definitely out of the Jackson stakes as his desires haven’t been officially confirmed, but all signs point to Fremantle.

No idea why Jackson wants to be a secondary ruck for his entire career but oh well, I think Freo losing Lobb and then giving up a haul for Jackson actually makes them worse, at least in the short term, Jackson is not a good forward

Tyrell Dewar is a NGA player for WCE in this draft ...Might be a chance as Cat B from Goldfields but they change Academy rules so regularly it's hard to know !
I like J Baker he knows how to find the footy and can play multiple positions, but Tyrel Dewar has those magical abilities up forward.

Something screams Wellingham/Kelly to me about Jackson. Plays well for dominant teams but comes home to a hero’s welcome and a big contract and doesn’t live up to the hype.
I hope Freo sell the whole farm

Paywalled article so will take your word for it....unless you want to provide quotes from the article.....
Paywalled for me as well, but link to thread should have something in it.

"YOUNG LION NOT ON MARKET — YET

Emerging Brisbane Lions on-baller Deven Robertson is out of contract at the end of next season, not this year, as many people believed.

The Lions announced in November 2020 that Robertson, along with teammate Jaxon Prior, had signed a one-year extension to tie them to the club through 2022.

But Robertson, who captained Western Australia at under-18 level, actually committed at the time for two more seasons rather than one.

The No. 22 pick in the 2019 draft has appeared only three times at senior level this year between injury and form but is considered an important part of Brisbane’s future."

Every time I see a new tweet listing his latest ridiculous stats, I want Sheezel with our first even more.

He is IMO, the most talented player in this years cohort think Stevie J, Sheezel has X factor and things happen when he is around the ball.

The consideration regarding Hewett is interesting. There's a lot to like, particularly his grunt work.
I see him as very similar in style to Matthew Kennedy at Carlton, however, if he doesn't get to that projected output I think you're looking at more like a Powell-Pepper, which though serviceable at times, is not a top 5 selection.
I think it's fair to say that it is especially disappointing to West Coast supporters that Wardlaw has had so limited exposure since the first handful of NAB League games as he was projecting as the best clearance mid of the draft.
Somebody like Phillipou should be able to transition into a mid role (similar to a Fyfe or Bontempelli). I suppose that there's an outside chance that he gets pushed to the forward flank (as we are want to do with our young players) and become a more dedicated forward (ala Fogarty from Adelaide).
Still, I agree with your assessment at this time, as long as we pick a clearance mid (i.e. Mackenzie, Ginbey, D'Aloia etc..) early in the second round to compliment him.
I doubt he will last beyond Adelaide's pick so we can't trade down the order for him.
However, there is still the combine results to consider as well as completion of their respective U18 seasons and the curtain-raiser at the GF.
So a lot can still change in the coming months.
Having the ability to play forward is a good thing for midfielders, IF they get the time they need in the center square to develop as well. Culley and him switching with each other between HFF/center square isn't the end of the world. It's a long season to play 22+ games as a full time mid as a kid.

He copped a fair injury at the end of the first quarter last week against the Metro side.
I didn't see the exact details of the injury but he went from being the dominant midfielder in the first quarter (during which SA were competitive) to relegated to the forward line for the remainder of the game.
It mustn't have been serious enough to rule him out for today's game but I wonder how this potential injury might have impacted how the coaching staff decided to utilise him today (where he was predominantly played forward).
Needless to say this is speculation only, however, I doubt we'll get a straight answer from the SA coaching team whether he played under an injury cloud today.

Apparently a back injury. Anything back related puts the handbreak of very quickly.

I think Jackson is ideally suited to a fwd/ruck role. Not sure he's a long term no. 1 ruck.

He keeps going the way he is and he will be North's selection. Huge point of difference from their other mids.

Pick 1 & 2 are far from decided yet. Let alone whether Nth get a priority pick #1.

Both teams play Adelaide and GC (we play GC on their first 'last chance' week, Nth play them in the final match - which might get interesting if the suns are out). Adelaide probably 50/50 or 60/40 to the Crows against both.

Then it gets interesting - Bombers and Sydney, vs Freo and Geelong (final 2 rounds). Sydney will probably want % more than Freo/Geelong, but Bombers are more beatable than any of the others.

A lot to play out, but if neither us or Nth win another game, my gut says we will likely finish bottom as we'll lose by a lot at MDMA stadium.
