Think Tim English in 2 years as a RFA is a better option than giving draft capital now for Jackson.
Yep, if we are going to look to get the services of either I think signing them as a FA is a much better option as we'll be much more aware of what shape our list is in.

If it so happens they are locked into deals at other clubs then so be it.

Now that i have seen Culley, i am a bit more bullish on our prospects moving forward

If we take another contested ball winning midfielder with our first pick, the contested ball dynamic of our entire team changes

Assuming for a minute that Nic Nat is fit for next season (which isn't a given, granted), alongside Yeo, Culley and for examples sake, Hewitt, that will give us some serious grunt all of a sudden at stoppages with our onball division

Shuey to move to a more permanent role at half forward (if he plays on), Sheed to alternate between the middle and half forward. Gaff and Kelly to play on the wings. Redden for depth

Dare i say it, there's hope

Why not take a contested ball winner with our 2nd pick.

And target the best player with our 1st?

Who are the options?

Ashcroft - balanced
Sheezel - maybe forward, maybe balanced mid
Warlord - contested
Phillipou - contested (Allegedly)
McKenzie - balanced
Clarke - balanced
Busslinger - KPD
Keeler - KPF
Tsatas - Outside pussyboy
Hewett - contested

I don't think our recruiters are going to look outside that top 4. Ashcroft will likely nom Lions. And I think North will take Sheezel based on having lots of mids already.

SO I think we'll go Warlord or Phillipou. If North don't take Sheezel, I still think we will go Warlord or Phillipou. And the only way we get Ashcroft is if we get the spoon and he agrees to come to West Coast and not nominate.

Tyrel Dewar is a NGA player for WCE in this draft ...Might be a chance as Cat B from Goldfields but they change Academy rules so regularly it's hard to know !

Talented. Was impressive in the SA game and I would certainly take him with a later pick. So we have 2 nga's in this draft, right, Dewar and Baker? Both would be great to add to our list.

The risk of taking them as cat b is worth it imo, get em into the wafl side see what they can do

Phillipou for our first pick .

Having a contest beast in culley and then a tall athletic mid phillipou that can go forward would be a formidable centre square combination

Chesser that balanced mid with pace .

Hough the outside pace and line breaking.

They would be some pretty solid pieces to our next generation midfield

You know what would be REALLY nice?

Going from the slowest team in the competition to one of the fastest.
And having a few guys that can tackle; actually really seriously, you know you've been tackled types.

Sheezel had another 20 and 4 goal game. Idk i reckon we should take him tbh, how many mids can come in and play in the middle right away? not a lot.

Sheezel can play next season as a forward rotating in the middle, and eventually be a mid.

He has a bit of Butters/Rozee feel about him

I had to double check which board I was on for a second. Visit the Lions board, we all believe we’re the slowest, after being out run by dads army Geelong, early in the season.

I dunno man, I hear the words "best available" and two scenarios jump into my head

1) the pieman gleefully using this as a premise to recruit yet another half-back
2) Jarrod Brander......

How about the best player at our 1st just might not be an inside contested mid.

There are some very one dimensional thinkers posting on here. Target focused on one type of player only.

To the point where they dont even consider we have two 2nd round picks to use and we just drafted a 193 cm inside mid who looks pretty decent.

Would you be upset if we drafted Sheezel?

One of Wardlaw, Sheezel or Phillipou would make me happy (assuming Ashcroft goes to Brisbane or Norf).
Hewett hasn't impressed me that much the last couple of games, I think he slides towards the end of the first round.

1 or 2 Sheezel / Busslinger

20 D'Alio / Gibney

26 best slider

38 plus a future 3rd trade for Robertson

We can get two decent inside mids to join Culley without using our 1st.

Think you’re spot on here, McKenzie coming home with a wet sail though and think he’s getting very close to becoming a consideration

We've had this conversation.

"Decent" for me doesn't cut it. We need to find 2x elite mids over the next few seasons. Given it's hard to nail every top 5 pick, coupled with the fact we're going to also have to try to find an elite KPF with a top pick, it doesn't make sense to waste these picks on a KPD.

We got Bazzo at 37. Looks as good as Gibcus who went at 7 or 8.

As for Sheezel - he looks like he has the chops to be an elite mid as well. I'm not bothered if our recruitment team deems him as the best available. Busslinger though - I'm pretty confident he's not even on the radar.

38 for Robertson is worthwhile punt. Could be a Josh Kennedy, or could be a Jack redden, or could be a dud. Worth a punt.

D'Alloia and Ginbey - they're unlikely to end up Oliver or Petracca types. Warlord, Phillipou, Sheezel are half chance. Number #1 priority has to be to try and find those elite mids. So far you haven't addressed where we will get them from? Maybe you think we can win a flag without them? Maybe you think the odds are good at finding them in the second round?

I know they're not the same player but I'd be very reluctant to use pick 2 on a KPD after the Brander debacle
I'm not worried about Brander. We got it wrong. Every club gets a few wrong. For me it's the opportunity cost. It's far easier to find elite KPDs in the second round than it is elite mids. Bazzo looks really good and was pick 37. We just don't need to pay better than pick 30 to find 2x elite KPDs, so why do it?

I's a hard draft to place. Warlord and Tsatas injured. No real KPFs but we know there is going to be one or two clubs in that top 10 who will take a punt on a KPF.

2023 draft, 2024 draft.

If there isn’t one in this draft, you can’t make one suddenly appear.

With our later picks do we possibly look at smalls? Both a tackling small fwd and small defender?
I feel like having some speed to slow up these rebounds out of d50 would be a priority as well as our obvious mid needs?
A mid sized defender with elite decision making who can pinpoint passes through the corridor would be good.

Make one "what" appear? An elite mid?

How do you know there isn't one in there? There probably is one or two in there, we just don't know who.
