I read freos board on the odd occasion. Especially after a good eagles win.

It would really be “on the odd occasion” if you read their board after a good Dockers win.

Is Ainsworths disposal actually that bad though? Or does it just look weird? His DE appears to be fine and it looks competent during the games he's played
Ainsworth's disposal has been poor. WAFL games last year I saw, he offered up helicopter passes that lack penetration and easy to pick off. The polar opposite of Shuey running through the guts on Sunday and hitting Oscar and JK laces out.

There was one particular kick in the fourth against Collingwood, an uncontested kick back into D50 to an equally open teammate (perhaps Duggan?). Ainsworth's kick made him seriously work for it and slowed the switch down a bit. It's those fractions of a second that you don't get back when the whips are cracking and you need to go hard on a switch.

I have no issue with Ainsworth as long term depth. I've not watched his WAFL games as closely as many on here, though I had heard about his kicking. Tried my best to put that aside and just judge him on what I see, and the outcome is the same - the kicking is a concern to me.

Could deal with the iffy kicking if he was the BBIBWBLF but it doesn’t appear to be the case
I'm not sure we will ever get one. TK and Shue are probably the closest thing we have ever had to that heavier build.

Our S&C obviously don't see adding mass as a priority. I can't think of anyone who has got anything like big unless they were already a unit to start with. Even Shue only really turned into a real nugget at 25-26 imo.

Victorian sides definitely add more bulk, in general, which helps them when it's a wet slog.

We used to, but seemed to move away from it in the early parts of last decade.

I wonder if is related to training on harder grounds (whilst Optus is a new issue, realistically Perth gets less rain than Melbourne each winter, and tge grounds dry off faster), so that injuries are minimised as much as possible?

Perth actually gets more rainfall by mm but probably fewer rainy days

Agree the mids that have been here a while don’t really have giant chests or biceps but Shuey and Yeo are pretty big through the hips. Even gaff looks bigger than he’s ever been.

Constable CBTBBIBWBLF

He literally could. 191cm and 84kg's, still yet to fill out completely. Play him in the guts as an extractor, like we all implored before he was drafted.

Constable : 21 disposals, 9 contested, 4 tackles, 3 clearances a game and kicked 5 goals so far in his 8 game AFL career.

Braynus : 12 disposals, 4 contested, 3 tackles, 1 clearance a game and kicked 2 goals from 6 AFL games.

All things considered i can't recall the club really going back and making a play for a player they intentionally "missed" in a previous draft unless it was a WA lad. Constable just doesn't seem like a player we'd randomly target after overlooking him already. He'll go to some spud Vic club like Carlton for a 6th rounder.

Plus Geelong are campaigners. That prick Wells would ask for Allen, Brander AND Cockie in the trade if it was us.

Not even sure why we're talking about him.

It's fun to use your imagination 🙃 :rainbow:🦄🐲

These are guys on the far side of 25. It's just an accrual of time on a mature body rather than a specific S&C goal -in my estimation.

We have backlog of backmen, and a wealth of talls, but a frightening lack of talented young mids coming through.

We have effectively very little room to work with at the draft this year, so from 2021 and beyond we have to absolutely commit to focusing on drafting midfielders.

Did Ainsworth regualrly kick helicopters in the last two games?

Only noticed him a bit and he seemed to be hand balling mostly with an odd kick. Don't recall any howlers aka Brander's field kicking straight to the opposition.

***My disclaimer here is I tend to get sh!tfaced watching games and miss a bit! :drunk: ;)

Ainsworth was a bizzare pick in a lot of ways. I know a lot of players around him are not much better (Worpel was the one we were kicking ourselves over but he’s still a bit average), so quality wise maybe we didn’t miss out on much, but he’s such an odd one out when it comes to the way we want to play.

He’s a poor mans Redden. Not really the Priddis type build to just be able to park yourself in the centre all day but can’t really kick either so can’t trust him to be a playmaker on the outside. Just doesn’t have any stand out traits and even moreso no traits that are valuable to our gameplan.

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me what he’s actually supposed to be doing. If he’s just filling space on the field then you’re better off with Brander as a point of difference, or even Jetta. If Jetta got the ball 7 times you can guarantee they’d all be quality possessions. Not just cheap handballs or backwards kicks.

Compare that to someone like O’Neill, who looks like he’ll slot straight into Shueys place eventually, Ainsworth is a bit of a nothing pick. I think I did read somewhere that we were keen on Fritsch, who went to Melbourne the pick earlier, he would’ve been pretty handy as a half forward/winger who is good aerially.

Whooo there.

I recall seeing several times Ainsworth pushed a quick, aggressive handball and kick inside the corridor to players running hard forward and hit the target.

So don't pigeon hole his entire game into being 'cheap backwards kicks and handballs".

In fact saying that backwards handballs or kicks are cheap is also wrong, it depends on the circumstances.
