Contracts update

Updated contracts are:
I have put the age in years and months of the player as at 30 September in the year that their contracts end. I thought this might be important seeing as we tend to have career ending knee injuries around 29, 30 and 31 years of age. Also I have kept the old contract details for reference purposes.

Tom Logan - Assume 1 year first contract 22-2

I assumed Bentley and Logan got a one year deal like Pearce did after his rookie elevation.

Players in Blue are from the 2003 draft/trade. Those in Black are from the 2004 draft/trade and rookie. Those in green are the 2005 draft/trade and rookies. It's interesting to note when some players contracts are negotiated, some early in the year and others are around finals time.

Given the 30 years of age as at 30 September plus the 10 years at the club rule, our veterans list will move over time as follows;
2007 Veterans are Lade and Wilson
2008 Can add on Peter Burgoyne
2009 Can add on Tredrea
2010 Can add Chad Cornes and Toby

Up dated from this thread which has some info about our vetrans list over the years.

Excellent work once again REH. From our position at the end of 2004 age-wise, we've got it looking balanced now. I'd expect Wakes to retire at the end of this year and next year to definitely be Wilburs last, so the one real concern that leaps out of that list is the ruck situation.

Someone like a Wood should be our trade priority this year. Maybe something likes Symes + 2nd round pick as a starting point?

Yeh no doubt that we need a ruckman or too with Deluca, giles and minson not showing alot...

Anyone else out there we could look at trading for?

Otherwise any one of potential in the draft this year that anyone is aware of ?

says he is looking melb - would we have a look - I think he is decent...

More than decent - IMO he would be demanding a spot in our 22.

A few things:

Charman would only leave for personal reasons, and those would have him going to Melbourne, not Adelaide. He is very highly rated as the number 1 ruck at Brisbane and would command a high price should he really want to leave.

Unless Ladey is not going around in a Port guernsey next year, then I don't think we need to be recruiting a ready-made ruckman this year. We have our regular 2 rucking spots very well filled for 2008. What we need is to have an "almost ready" option right behind Broges and Ladey. Currently, our next best is DeLuca with Minson and Giles in the project category. We also have guys like Thurstans and possibly Cockshell or Willits who could pinch hit.

Clearly, there is a query over whether DeLuca would be an adequate replacement if Lade/Brogan are unavailable and whether he will be a suitable longer term replacement for Lade in 2009.

Hence, I think we would really love to have a guy who is "almost ready" like Wood or even Maric, both of whom seem to be closer to ready than DeLuca. Tough to trade for that some of commodity, though...

I think if you check youll find Thomas's is a 3 year deal - to end of 2010

From the clubs announcement "The trio will be with the Power until at least the end of the 2009 season." Now that could be left open for Matt to be on 3 years, but they always use the "at least" phrase on these contract announcements. Why wouldn't the club be specific about this? What has he done to get an extra year over Grew? Just a question? What is your source? Horses mouth?

Im Melb based and know his best mate from his TAC team who he keeps in contact with he told me a few weeks ago that he had been offered a 3 year deal in May {the week we played Melb } and it took 4/5 weeks to finalise .

Thanks. Geez I wish the club was more specific as "The trio will be with the Power until at least the end of the 2009 season," could mean any of the following;

Thomas gets 3 + Grew 2 + Carlile 2; or

Thomas gets 3 + Grew 3 + Carlile 2:

Thomas gets 3 + Grew 2 + Carlile 3????

Grews worth 3 but he may have only wanted 2 so he can neg more later , But your 2nd choice of 3 for grew and thomas sound s close to the mark as Carlisle is only just starting to show his worth .And bar injury and health Thomas would have played more games after his efforts last year so they want him long term.

I'd have to agree here. I've been quite impressed with Maric's development at the Maggies, and he has shown a bit when given the chance at the Crowbots.

With a year under Lade's tutoring, and a move away from the stringent 'structures and procedures' of the Craig regime (which stifle young players development IMO) Maric has the potential to be a great AFL ruckman.

what movements do we think nick lower would be on? if any? is he a required player at PAFC?? if so when can we expect a new contract for him?

I hpe the Power keep Nick on, he has been playing some good football with Norwood and while he has some problems with his game I think that can be worked on. I guess the question is where does he fit into the long term plans? I guess in the Wilson role but there will be plenty of competition.

apparently as i have heard people are worried about his brain fades throughout matches, other that that i think his game is superb:thumbsu::thumbsu:

get drummond over here to give us a hand analyzing him.

I wouldn't call them brain fades but I would have to question his disposal by foot in particular under pressure. Apart from that he is a great mark, touth and loves a contest. As I said I think he has a real future and I hope Port hang onto him. I hadn't really noticed it until this year so perhaps he has just been gong through a bad patch.

I would like to see him add a new dimension to his game, and be able to run through the midfield a bit more. At the moment he really is a medium sized defender and thats about it.

i believe this is what he was been doing, he has been pushing up onto the wing and at times for norwood playing a negating midfield role. if you look at his brother from the roos, you will see that in his game as well, kind of a half back flanker rotating on the ball. its a classy place to play on the field.
