I'm still not certain about the voting system, but it seems to reward super-consistent obedient players.

I'd say Johnson would be leading it at this stage. He has really knuckled down and is producing good results. Recent improvers include Woewoedin and Cole, and Richards may be picking up votes for his solid rucking.

I'm hoping a flashy player like Tarrant or Didak can pick it up this year, it would mean they had done all the hard little things as well as the dazzling stuff. Didak's chasing against North is the stuff I mean.

According to my thread Sticky: Collingwood MVP votes - Ben Johnson is out in front after another Best on Ground this week.

The voting system is as follows:

Each player is allocated one vote per game he is selected in. Up to 20 votes per game can then be allocated to the best players as judged by the match committee.

eg. Buckley won on 77 votes last year playing 24 games so he recieved 53 votes in 24 matches for being one of the best.

PS: BEN KINNEAR HAS GOT 3+ VOTES in 2004.

The reason it rewards super consistent obedient players is that they are doing their job week in, week out. Whist a team needs its flashy players the consistent ones are an absolute necessity, hence the rewards.

BJ is improving every week and looks an absolute certainty for the award this year. Smokies might include Clement and Woey while Wakes started the year well and is coming back into form after the "accidental" punch in the face from Lynch.

In the games Tarrant has played four quarters, he has been better or as good as BJ.

BJ, only because he has played every game and Tarrant missed four.

for sheer unaldulterated consistency...
CLEMMO.
If Jimmy james wasn't down back we would not have been competitive (defensively) in any of the games played so far.

He get's the big tasks and consistenly acquits himself well.

BJ's flashy runs through the lines catch the eye but analyse every single touch of his for every game this year (I can provide a timeline to the second for each game so you can look every one up) and count the number of effective disposals (ie solidly to our advantage) and he has gone from 20/70 to 60/40 in terms of effectiveness.

The good thing is he's played more in the mid-field where he can run around and IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER HE IS CAUGHT OUT OF POSITION.

As a backman he'd constantly go for his screaming, teeth chattering run than get caught out of position. You would regularly see his man and ask "where's Johnno?"

I hope he is permanently kept in the mid-field where he can play his best footy, and be the running hard nut, and keep him away from the back 6 where he is a serious and consistent liability because of his below over positional competency as a backman.

Still, for mine, Clemmo is the one player who has played competently and solidly and would be the most missed player outside of Buck's, Tazza and Ant.

didnt you read it, they get a vote for each game they play no matter how crap they were in that game
therefore, with three games this year, benny kinnear has at least 3 votes so far in this seasons Copeland Trophy

Don't you remember teachers telling you to double check what you write! IMO Ben Kinnear could have up to 6 votes after being voteworthy v Carlton and Port Adelaide.

He did get 7 plus goals kicked on him against St Kilda and didn't look defensive at all. Played on Gehrig in the 2nd Half and the G-Train kicked 4 on him. Koschitzke kicked 3-4 on him in the first quarter / half
