Top five
1. Steele Sidebottom: Mr Fixit is a privilege to watch live, you don’t get the full appreciation for Steele unless you have seen him live. He plays in a manner accustomed to the likes of Sam Mitchell and Shaun Burgoyne, he gets better with age.

2. Brodie Grundy: Incredible season, but like Steele would have preferred to save his best to last. Bringing the dominant ruckman back in vogue in a subtle way.

3. Scott Pendlebury: Would not be a top three without him. So many players could learn and develop their game from him… Phillips, Aish, Stephenson,C Brown etc. Please see the next crop is capable before your time is up.

4. Jack Crisp: Crispy has been a hallmark for the rise of Collingwood. Gone is the inconsistent winger who would run one way, we have a half-back who is starting to believe in his ability to play tall and small, and always brings a smile to shine the boys spirits.

5. Tay Adams: Very solid season, if not for his midfield counterparts he would be pushing for higher honours. He loves cracking in and we love him for it.

Be interesting to see if Grundy, Sidebottom and Pendles (given they are our 3 best this year) turn up for the Copeland considering the didn't turn up on Grand Final day...

I hope Tom Langdon polls well, would be good to see him make the top 5. Unless he’s leaving, then I hope he gets a cold soup, over cooked steak and no dessert spoon to eat his ice cream with.

That’s a low blow

In all seriousness, its pretty sad they are our top 3 in the Copeland played the way they did on the weekend.

Really hope it sits with them.
I’m sure all three are more than professional enough to self analyse.

Not the first won’t be the last to not play super.

Just a quick consideration when discussing the Copeland, it tends to favour players playing most games.
As the voting is spread out taking up numerous players.
It's not just say top 5 players getting votes.

True, but both Pendles and Elliott played 16 & 17 games in 2017 and polled top 10 finishes, there are a few that missed games but when they played would've polled high

You going this year?

Has happened on occasion, true.

Grundy and Steele will fight it out.
I expect Grundy to win with a bit to spare.

But can only see the two of them in the race.

Yeah I agree, I actually drafted a spreadsheet and assigned 5,4,3,2,1 from a number of listed sites for best players for each game this season and Sidey was a bit in front at the end. I think these sites weight too much on disposal numbers and midfielders without understanding player roles internal of the club and I expect Grundy to be much closer and even Crisp higher.

Phillips I think will also surprise a few.

Gotta go with Grundy taking home the Copeland.

Followed by: Steele, Pendles, Adams, De Goey, Langdon, Crisp, Howe, WHE, Phillips. Treloar missed too many to feature heavily but will poll well when he was well.

Best first year: Tough one - will it be Jaidyn Stephenson, Jaidyn Stephenson or Jaidyn Stephenson? I'm tipping Stephenson in an upset.

Best club man: Can't choose between Varcoe, Goldsack and Dunn. Maybe give it to Varcoe.
