That's what the cynic in me thought last night when I watched it and why I am dubious of the Sam Lane "source" that Kane sledged him back about his father. If he was so remorseful of what he said, wouldn't he be pissed of with a retort about his dead father?

I think there should be an AFLPA / AFL code of conduct rule that a player can not make a public apology pr spin statement until he has made contact with the aggrieved player. I'm starting to get sick of this "I left a message on his voicemail" crap. ____ it, if you were really remorseful and not worried about the pr spin why cant you make 10 attempts to get in contact before you run to the media.

hang on a minute, if you try a couple of times to contact someone and they don't return your calls then clearly they are not interested and you shouldn't have to spend half your life trying to apologise. Ten times, pfft, i hope you don't do that when you get a chicks phone number :o;)

correct me if i am wrong but i believe when montgomery sledged rama, he had beaten cancer and was in remission ( i may be wrong )

I think that if i had beaten cancer I would be much more ok with an insult about it than if i was going through it

same with kane, his child is still sick, not was sick and is now better

if kane had turned around and dropped him I would not be angry.

If somebody wants to convince me that they are being honest and not acting for the camera and worrying about their image, 10 times, over a day or so, not 10 minutes, indicates to me the bloke is genuine. Players are supposed to be able to get a hard ball on the field, they should try to get a hard ball get off it. Ten attempts might get the message thru somebodies thick skull that they have pissed off somebody and make them think a little. Remember footy is about learning repetitive actions. What's the problem doing it off field.

Re chicks, there's been one or two worth the effort over the years, the rest one or two calls is plenty.;) Maybe Will had a similar thought. He thought Kane was worth only one call as it's not that important, compared to getting his sorry mug on camera.

Will is a very sensitive person. He'll be hurting from this, more then you would understand.
Oh he will be hurting, next time they play Port

Heck some of the Crows boys may even go at him a bit harder. Many are friends with the Cornes boys.

Massive storm in a teacup - what Minson said was a little bit in poor taste but hardly threatening or derogatory.

All of these incidents like this one, Montgomery's and even Selwood's are a massive beat up in the press, then there's mediation etc it's just promotes a dobbing, soft little bitch culture. In the old days you could sort it out on the field, now any form of retribution except dobbing to the umpire and you yourself will be strung over the coals by the media and the AFL. The AFL has created this little bitch culture and I for one am sick of it. Sticks and Stones people. Harden the ____ up! The fact that this is big news at all just shows how soft we have all gotten.
:thumbsu:

Pathetic from all involved IMO.

Agree with those that have said it was a storm in a teacup. Anything that is said inside the white line should stay inside the white line.

WTF more were you expecting Minson and the Bulldogs to do. He tried to contact him immediately after the game, tried again the next morning. Then Will got Fantasia on the case so that the Bulldogs could officially inform Port via Rohde what had transpired. All in the space of little over 12 hours, and all settled to the satisfaction of all concerned well before the media hijacked the story. No hiding, no shying away from the fact that he screwed up, nothing less than an unqualified apology at the end of it. Kane himself acknowledged today that he was very happy with the way the Bulldogs handled the matter and has fully accepted Will's apology.

Do you want one of Will's kidneys as well?

Then why did he need to go to the media? He didn't have to give the interview on Monday night. He knew the shit was going to hit the fan. Why the need for intermediaries if everything is all ok? I don't expect the Bulldogs to have done anything except for them to arrange for a guaranteed time that they would talk.

Why didn't Minson say something like this to Fantasia, I have tried to call Kane, he hasn't responded, can you talk to Peter Rhode and set up a time that Kane will take my call as I want to speak to him an apologise personally before I go to the media. How difficult would it have been for Minson to take the attitude that stuff the public, they don't need to know, my priority is to speak to Kane personally and apologise directly to him?

Or when he left the message on the phone that he said he want to talk to Kane and apologise directly to him rather than thru third parties before he made a public statement.

How hard is that to do? If Kane still had a problem with it then bad luck, he should have waited until Kane was prepared to talk to him before he made a public statement.

If I want to apologise to someone I do it directly. I don't use intermediaries. And yes if I have to make 10 attempts then I will do it. If I don't want to accept one I wont, but I don't hold grudges for too long if people speak nasty bullshit to me. If I see someone making a direct genuine effort then I would eventually accept it.

I don't accept the I left a message on his phone defence. It's a soft cop out that has become standard pr spin by players. I'd rather hear nothing than that. It's just like going for a mark and someone comes a cross your path and you don't even make an attempt to win the ball because its all too hard.

I have made no comment about what Minson said, the rights and wrongs of it and the sort of bloke he is. I have no doubt Minson is indeed remorseful for his actions. My gripe is with (his and) the spin industry. I had no sympathy for him on Monday night. My sympathy was with Graham Polak, involved in a real serious incident that required real sympathy.

Given the way Chad returned Minson's call, I have major doubt as to what was said on the field as opposed to what was reportedly said. I expect that Kane was too tired and had far more important things on his mind, to deal with Minson's phone call. Chad did not!

Kane Cornes moving on from sledge saga
AAP - July 1, 2008, 8:10 pm

Port Adelaide midfielder Kane Cornes wants to put the sledging incident involving Will Minson behind him, saying he has accepted the Western Bulldogs ruckman's apology.

Minson has publicly apologised for the sledge, made during Saturday night's game in Darwin.

Neither player has confirmed details of what was said, but it is understood to have involved Cornes' first son Eddy Jack.

The two-year-old was born with a serious heart problem.

"There's been a lot written and said about it, probably too much from my point of view, I've been really happy with the way both clubs have handled it and I've accepted Will's apology," Cornes told Channel Ten.

"I'm just looking forward to moving on and putting it all behind me."

Earlier this season, a television microphone caught St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt sledging Andrew Lovett, referring to the Essendon player's much-publicised domestic trouble....

Personally, I think the above shows how ____ing soft the world is today and how I wish the moderate attitudes of the not so distant past were considered the norm today.

I don't condone anyone abusing someone about their sick child but if what has been reported is anywhere near accurate (you are selfish playing you should be at home with your sick son) then this is the greatest load of crap ever.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. If you think it is soft that something has been made of this incident then you would appear to be condoning the use of a sick child as a sledge.

I am happy to be called politically correct if that means defending a bit of common decency.

Families should be off limits full stop.

No more momma jokes... that's a damn shame :p

Will Minson is a hack and should keep his oversized trap closed no player deserves to cop that kind of sledge. Thats to far and to Kane Cornes he got had the last laugh 41 DPS. Minson will never be an all Australian or B&F at the Dogs

I can't believe some one would say something like that.
If some one had said that to me I would have gone off my head.
How could somebody do that? That is so so low.

I too, am rather "old school" when it comes to on-field sledging. But as the game has become more professional and players had the potential to look for increased psychological edges by making personal comments about opponents, it's probably fair to say there was greater potential for innappropriate things to be said.

However, the ever-politically correct AFL went way overboard when they disgracefully implemented a racial (and then religious) vilification code, ensuring the creation of the "soft little bitch" culture Papa_G is writing about. Highlghting the Cornes-Minson incident is merely a continuation of that slippery slope.

The players and clubs could and should have sorted the matter out amongst themselves without the media being involved. Whatever was said, neither Minson nor the Cornes brothers should be dragged over the coals or had their reputations sullied over this. And thankfully, the AFL won't be implementing any sanctions and neither should they for anything that is said on the field.

Thankfully, it looks like the matter's been dealt with and supporters should just move on.
