and a Government that has been unable to vaccinate it's population is critical of other Governments for closing borders. They should be working at getting the majority of the South African population fully vaccinated before they criticise other Governments for acting to protect their populations from a variant about which little is known. In the UK Boris was blamed for not closing the UK borders quickly enough early in 2020 this time around he is wasting no time.

One good thing about Omicron is that the majority of cases have been reported among unvaccinated people. This gives a glimmer of hope that the current vaccines will hold up. Pfitzer have said it will take two weeks before they know how their vaccine stands up to Omicron and that they can have an updated vaccine ready in 100 days. If they need a new vaccine does that mean we will all need to get re vaccinated or will a modified booster do?

Why haven't Pfizer developed a modified vaccine for delta?

Two positive Omicron cases in Sydney in travellers. Mild symptoms at this stage.

You're the one obsessed with the US and brought this sh*t into this thread constantly

Mister Pot, sorry to intrude on your discussion with Mister Kettle but I would like to remind you that many times in this thread you've dropped in to raise the topic of Biden doing this bad but █████ did that better.

I posit that your obsession is somewhat similar to what you accuse OGC of having

Thank you Mister Black, Ah seen the light. Bored with the US stuff anyway.
So everyone is shitting themselves over omicron despite it sounding like it has milder symptoms??
Taking precautionary measures in case it turns out for the worse is not really shitting oneself though, is it?

Genomic testing has confirmed two overseas travellers who returned to Sydney on Saturday have been infected with the new Omicron Covid-19 variant of concern.
Both passengers arrived in Sydney from southern Africa on Saturday night.

Question is if it is smarter than the vaccine?

Then the question is then the effect it has on the vulnerable?

Covid itself isn't a problem for the vast majority of people and only mild symptoms for most.

A couple of weeks will sort it out but you just can't get it wrong.

Yes I have to point out to a lot in this thread it's never been about the actual virus. I again raised it to point out with this ban and their reaction to the new variant the hypocrisy (because the virus has always been secondary to them). The first 2 threads on this were blaming one man for every death in the USA yet when a variant so dangerous that one of the chief whingers has a melt and wants all borders shut one must ask then wheres the melt about elsewhere. We had to hear it for 12 months or more, surely someone that concerned with the US would be freaking out it's getting in there? Anyway, others have done it better with meme's and screen grabs to highlight the politics of their Covid decision making, it's helpful to highlight it's political because it gets to the crux of what they are advocating in a response to the virus.

Looking at the profile of deaths in NSW and Vic again.
I have shifted the Vic curve back (by approx 45 days) so that the death profiles start at about the same time for each state and for the current wave.
Where they are now in terms of Deaths per Day, is, in this context, pretty much identical.

If New COVID* made me shit myself as well I'm not sure I would describe the symptoms as milder ;)

Chief health officer professor Paul Kelly told the ABC on Monday morning there were three key reasons why Omicron had experts on edge.

“Why are we concerned? Firstly, genetically, there are quite a few changes to this,” Prof Kelly said.

“I will stress, that it’s still the same SARS-CoV-2 that we’ve become used to, but it is different from previous versions and there are suggestions from that genetic variation that there could be changes in severity, transmissibility or indeed, interference the efficacy of vaccines and treatments.”

He said experts were also worried about Omicron’s transmissibility.

“It does transmit from person-to-person quite readily – at least as well as the Delta virus. And so that means that it will spread,” he said.

“And thirdly – in terms of the vaccines. There is no solid evidence at the moment that there is a problem with that. Although we will wait for further advice and laboratory studies in coming days and weeks.”
