The Federal Liberal Party are in government. They are giving out billions of dollars to welfare recipients and started long before the lock downs.

If that's not enough to tel you this situation is unprecedented in our life times I dunno what is.

4 months ago if you'd said in 4 months time they were gonna do that you'd have been laughed out of the room.

There is an element who seem obsessed with this.

I don't know what purpose it's meant to serve other than to facilitate mostly non related personal agendas (politics), which is pretty sick behavior.

Andrews has dropped the ball in relation to our public health system, we also have an abysmally low number of ICU beds and ventilators per capita, I am sure he will find some more money for Geelong Football Club redevelopments though in the next election.

Wage guarantees, repayment holidays. Doubling of the safety net. This does not seem real still.

I know it's not always easy but this is the stuff we have to get up people about. Being a campaigner about this sort of thing is okay if it means you aren't creating a cluster of cases.

It's not just that. Knowing what is happening is one of the few ways we have of maintaining some sort of control, or the illusion of control. Just be careful how you respond when it starts to go a bit crazy, it might really get to you.

Everyone calls journos scum for pandering to this with various "scorecards" and employing horserace journalism, but the reality is that this is how people process these things, so the coverage reflects that.

We spent 24 hours (2 adults) in lockdown in Hong Kong in a Typhoon and despite it being 5 Star and a very good size, it was the worst 24 hours in a Hotel simply because of confinement. The quality, space and 548 channels, room service meant zilch because your movement is so restricted.

Fwiw we had a good view of the storm. Nothing like a swaying building 35 storeys up for 3 hours

Normally I'm keen to point out all the shifty links between Crown and government, but I think here it is their large room capacity and ability to centralise things that matters here.

Nobody presents unbiased news. If you live out of a city the abc is the best source of local news and the most accurate in my experience. Last year that was where the best local info was, as it is during every fire and flood emergency.
