I'm sorry if this is in another thread but I couldn't find it ...

It was raised this morning on SEN that Carlton would not qualify for a priority draft pick if we beat Hawthorn.

I want us to win every game possible for the rest of the season, but I also want to build a team that will be more competitive in future season - thus the need to get first tabs on talented kids.

Thoughts anyone?

or thus, the need to win games? impossible to tell which one will be of more benifit, but it will be nice to sing the song again on the weekend.

1 single player will not make a hugh difference although it would be nice to get an extra early pick

IMO a couple more wins in 2006 would benefit the club more than a PP. wins build confidence and also reward everyone for their hard work and for the effort that has been put in.

So what if you lose a PP!

If Carlton does their homework with the draft and pull something in the trading period we don't need the PP.

From our draft/trading we need to get 2-3 players that will play 150+ games. So we need our talent scouts and recruiters to do their homework so each pick we have is on the money.

Much rather have a kid come in seeing a team feeling more confident over a late season flurry than come in seeing a team filled with under-achievers.

Losing a pick at #18 is hardly the same as losing a pick in the top 3. As someone pointed out on the main board, there just isn't the incentive for teams to tank anymore (if they did in the first place).

It's not like Richmond are travelling all that well either, so there's another game we're just as likely to win.

It'll be a pity to miss out on another pick after such a crap year, but I don't suppose it does much good worrying about it.

At the start of the year we would of pencilled in 6-8 wins at least. Which means we wouldn't have qualified for a PP anyway.

Getting the PP would of been a small bonus, but the coaches and board would not have even thought about it (unless they secretly wanted to tank) and would have had their plans most likely set that we didn't get a PP.

How much more respect has North Melb. received after their good late season flurry. They now get no benefit from having have picked themselves up from a draft perspective. But morally, financially, supporter respect and next year membership they've done a heck of a lot.

We need to follow North's lead and win 2-3 of our final games to generate that flow.

Western Bulldogs last year finished with an awesome flurry and got them in the groove for a real good year this year. We hopefully can emulate that.

Some of our gems have come after pick 40 in the past 5 years. simpson, fisher, waite, Carrazzo, bentick, betts, thornton and co. So there will be good picks available later even if we miss that early one.

A priority pick isn't as important as keeping the type of culture we've developed this year.

The whole 'tanking' thing is rubbish anyway.

Didn't we say the same thing at the end of 2004?

Will they win on sunday or Will they deliberatly throw the Game by playing very poor and do alot of turn overs and give away alot of free kicks and give away heaps of 50's . i hope Carlton wins wins wins, the remaining 4 h&W games :)

If we beat the hawks itll be such a waste of a season. I've had very little joy out of this year exept for watching Fev and Murph strut their stuff but if we don't get an extra good pick I'll be mighty ****ed off.

It's hard to comprehend the fact that every side now has to have a bad few years and get draft picks to become good again. Our bad period will be worse because of John "the cheat" Elliot.

I hope we can do what the saints did.

At some point the kids need to learn how to win. If we miss out on an extra 2nd round pick then so be it.

Pagan's almost gone and shot, so he's not going blow any chance of keeping his job by tanking, secpecially for a second round pick, which are 50/50 at the best of times. Not worth losing for.
