the suns won't be near the bottom of the ladder next season, so they won't have the leverage afforded to them of being last....especailly with GWS also in the mix

We would be dumb to trade him this year, but if the right options come up next year from the GC we would be stupid not to look at it (i'm talking a significant ransom)

Well this is a fascinating development!

I had often thought that the best way to get through expansion and avoid dodgy compensation picks is with this exact type of "out-clause" arrangement.

However, I'd be very surprised/disappointed with the club if this clause also included the terms of trade, in fact this would be utterly stupid. We were expecting top four last year, and I'm sure we were expecting something in the range of 70-80 goals from Tippett. How/why would this equate to us accepting a meager second and third round draft pick come 2012? Caro is a usually a pretty smooth sort of operator, but I think she's stuffed up big time in stating the trade terms.

So...I guess we can expect to lose Tippett next year right?

I'm not concerned, at the end of next season GC will be re-signing their young stars like Swallow, Smith etc for considerably more than they are currently receiving and they wont have the money to throw out to someone like Tippett.

They're arguably closer to success than we are, and there's go home/lifestyle factor. All they'd have to do is offer him what we offer him and it's a done deal as far as I'm concerned.

I reckon you could be right.

The meer fact that the clause exists says to me that Kurt wants to make the GC his home. That being the case we should be talking long and hard with the suns for a suitable trade sooner rather than later.

David Swallow welcome to the Adelaide Crows.:D

Because waiting to agree to terms of a trade down the track could well pose a serious impediment to getting to destination of choice, seriously weakening the value of the 'go to team of choice' clause. Hence the articles suggestion that a trade may well be agreed to at the end of this season to assure market value is received for Tippett.

Sounds plausible given the context of the contract negotiations. Losing players to expansion franchise hysteria was peaking at this time.

Kurt still has 18 months to run on his contract and there is plenty of water to run under the bridge until then

regardless of contract clauses it is all within the AFC control

get the right coach, program and environment in place the rest will take care of itself

in the unlikely scenario that Tippett does request a trade, well we will take Day, Lynch or Dixon in return as you can't play them all in the forward line

John Reid been running the old mouth? Or Tippett's agent?

Regardless, the Toast won't have cap room to add Tippett in two years and he looks like he loves it here. Nice easy article to write.

That said, I'm quite impressed by the creativity of that contract structure.

Is this like the secondary Y2K scare that was going to occur Jan 1st 2001?

:D Quite possibly! I'm thinking she didn't think we were "beleaguered" enough whilst down on our knees, so she wanted to throw sand in our face for good measure.

Henny Penny............

With free agency around the corner similar clauses may become more commen. Player lists are about to become more transient.

I cannot see this trade happening. Tippet is quoted as specifically saying that he does not want to leave. And the senior guys are also saying that, quite bluntly.

The Suns ability, or lack thereof, to score has come under fire recently as we do not have a senior KPF. We have some young bodies who will grow into the role such as Lynch, Dixon and Day, but they are still young and learning the trade. So there's a bazillion rumors that we're hunting guys like Taylor Walker, or the older Tippet brother to get this senior KPF.

Don't believe it. Suns managers, coaches and list management people have said quite clearly a number of times that they will NOT be getting any more senior bodies into the side. They're happy with the forward and how they're progressing, even if they still need some bulk. Bringing in a senior KPF would not be worth the cash, since he'd only be of use for about a year before our young guys get the skills to start going really well.

The article mentions that Gorringe and Tape are likely trade targets, since they're both from SA. Tape is loving it up here, and quoted many times as saying such. Cannot see him leaving. Gorringe just signed a new 2-year contract extension about a week ago, so I guess that rules that out. He still wants to be up here, as does the Club.

I'm not sure how this writer managed to fill out such an article with such fluff!

So yeah, don't be worried Crows fans. Joel Tippet is just as likely to 'come home' as Nick Riewoldt is.

Well if it is true you can't say it's not creative.

And the end result would be we kept Tippett for an extra 2 years and then got some draft picks or a decent player instead of absolutely nothing. John Reid and the team did the right thing to protect the club IMO if that is the case.

Sounds a lot like the 'minimum offer release clause' in a lot of soccer players contracts.

But having said all that I don't think he'll leave in a hurry. Seems like he loves it here, although he did seem pretty close to Neil Craig.

Where in the article does it say that the trade would be agreed to by the end of this season?

Suns & the gun: Crows may lose Tippett

THE beleaguered Adelaide Football Club is being haunted by the shadow of an intriguing contract clause which has again linked gun forward Kurt Tippett to the Gold Coast, potentially as early as next season.

Nothing to worry about if Kurt wants to stay. And if he wants out no point worrying about it really can't force him to stay.

Tippett is a very decent man.

Tippett is probably the 2nd most overpaid player in the league, right now behind Gold Coasts Nathan Krakour. ( davis contract starts next year;))

I would imagine he would be desperate to repay the club rather than jump ship.
