If you thought Abbott had a woman problem, How many times had Combet been married, and now he's a new dad to another.

Combet solution to the Pink Batts was to hold no press interviews, none.

Fielding is still a senator under 30/6/2011. If Abbott gets up he won't call an election before then.

Abbott will need time to tarnish the Greens so he will have to let the Greens block a few bills
Not sure if his amount of wives is that big of a factor, considering he will be judged as a leader more then anything. No press interviews was a pretty smart move considering it needed to be out of the media for the ALP, it was an enormous mistake that was bleeding votes for them where they fully admitted they got it wrong. The best method around a situation like that is to talk about it as least as possible i.e. only when other people bring it up.

And yeah Abbott will have to do that, if he goes to a DD in 18 months time and the Greens have the same amount of votes as this election then they will dominate the Senate, probably getting 2 Senators in each state expect possibly NSW. It's stupid how we have to wait so long for Senate replacements.

Combet's appearance on local tv here was pathetic ,no mention at all of his local electorate instead he constantly referred to labor's achievements in newcastle where he resides .Combet has to deliver the Glendale rail exchange promised by Carr in 1998 and increased health facilities to the southern end of his electorate. Both the state libs and labor are afraid to announce their position on the closure of the newcastle rail line ,if state labor goes with the rail closure Combet could be under pressure from a high profile independent , a independent holds lake macquarie in the state government

Why would the ALP bother?

If the Indies side with the Coalition on a moderate platform I can see 3 years of relatively stable government with no great need to get things through the senate, or at least they'll be palatable to the Greens. The ALP would need a solid parliamentry performer in the opposition leader's spot and Gillard is probably the best they've got.

In Parliament no one on the Labor side can match her.

Punters have this spiv in mind

Odds shorten on next Labor leader
Darren Goodsir
August 23, 2010 - 10:04AM

Bill Shorten, the former union boss who orchestrated the execution of Kevin Rudd from the Labor leadership, has been backed by punters to lead the party to the next election. While hundreds of punters sweat on the final election outcome, Mr Shorten, the parliamentary secretary for disabilities, has been installed as the clear favourite with bookies to topple the Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is fighting to form a minority government.

Leading betting agency Centrebet has Mr Shorten, a Victorian Labor-right figure who is married to the daughter of Governor-General Quentin Bryce, a $2.70 favourite, with Ms Gillard at $4.10.

Shorten was irked and very touchy when Barry Cassidy mentioned it on Insiders yesterday. Saw no humour in the question nor any need to mention the fact at all.

That performance on Insiders was one of the worst I have seen. Took no responsibility for the debacle, did not say we have got some hard lessons to learn from this election - all he could do was bag the Libs

Yes, he came across as a sour, back-room, head-kicking manipulator... which I guess he is!

Robb simply came across as negative. Thought the Liberals' negative campaign was a positive message... hmmm...

Yet another sad indictment on the state of Australian politics.

That is why I loved Tony Windsor's bullshit free zone. He said words to the effect "we are talking about the future of our country FFS!". I just can't imagine Shorten doing it.
