There would be a number of conditions

1. Drug tests
2. Complete alcohol ban
3. Curfew of midnight

There is 3.

He was on strict guidelines with the Eagles, it doesn't work with him, he may or could have cost the Eagles valuable draft picks, he's way too risky.

One player doesn't make a team

Watch him go to Richmond or Carlton..and watch them make the 8..

Carlton would be too smart not to take him, he wouldn't make Richmond good enough either, wouldn't put any amount of money on him playing close to 22 games

Carlton will take him..imagine him, judd, stevens, gibbs, murphy..gosh damn thats a good midfield!

1. Judd wouldn't want him there, their culture was a big turn off for him
2. Judd would be squeazing the salary cap
3. They wouldn't want him around their young players either

whats this about Rutten? It's probably just rumous as always but i've seen it a few places now that people have said we should get Rutten in the psd?

I wouldn't believe those rumors, even if they were true he's one player who wouldn't be available at our pick

Because he is a drug addict and is an extremely poor example for young players.

He has psychological problems and i couldn't think of a worse player to have associated with our club.

I am absolutely shocked people would even suggest it.

Yeah that's true. But without being close to him we don't really know what's going on with him. Im not saying hes not a bad influence just that maybe a change of scene might give him more focus on his footy. On his footy alone though he would be an awesome boost to our midfield and help service our very good forward line which hasn't got the service it needs for a while now.

I want success..guess what a team with Cousins in it is a heck of a lot better than one without him, as I said I'd pick him up. But there would be conditions such as curfews.

He already had conditions and curfews before this latest incident.
Dont want him anywhere near us. The last thing we need is players running amok off the field when we currently have a new coach.

we would not want the influence at the club. i think the man can play but you can't have that kind of influence around a young club such as ours (or any club for that matter). one of the strengths of our club is that we are very rarely involved in these off field incidents (only a couple i can remember) and that is the way it should stay. strong culture leads to strong football.

cousins is a champion and i believe he set the standard for judd and kerr etc. unfortunately drugs are ruining him and his reputation maybe a change of enviroment will help. chick's name continually comes up!!!

Cousins was a disgrace even before the latest incident. I would be extremely disappointed if they even considered him at essendon. His problems are between his ears and I can't see how being a high profile sports person anywhere is going to help.

why would we need trouble .
the AFL should step in if Cousins is found guilty and say ,,NO. Cousins is not allowed in the AFL again ...ever .

no offence to cousins as i think he is a phenominal player but...

no more footy for him, he has most likely landed himself in jail.

The people in there will take pride in saying

"i bashed" or "i stabbed be cousins"

Its a shame

Its not just the latest stuff.

Don't forget he personally had more indescresions then most clubs have in the same period.

Punch up with Daniel Kerr which resulted in a broken arm
Questioned by police about underworld connections
Running from the Booze bus
Passed out drunk outside the casino
Suspended by the Eagles over the drugs issue
Last person to be with Mainwearing before he died
Now more trouble with the police

The guy is bad news. He will never change. Do not let him near the club.

I feel sorry for him. And sad about the wasted talent.

However his problems are way beyond football and it is absurd to think he has an AFL future. His person future is what is at stake here. He is clearly conflicted with things and does not understand the amount of time he needs to get his head right.

i don't know whats been said, can't be bothered going back and reading through the previous pages, but when he came back to the eagles there was a void put into this contract forced by the eagles that if he gets caught with/on drugs or gets in trouble with the cops then he'll never play afl again.. (or eagles i can't remember)
i personally think eagles WILL dump him, he'll nominate for pre-season but no one will take him.

This was my reasoning on it too. I wonder what the AFL will enforce this time (if anything) if he is found guilty. If he gets a 2 year ban that would effectively end his career, if the AFL didn't already.
I'm not sure the AFL would be lawfully entitled to ban him at all. Under their own illicit drugs policy a player needs 3 positive tests before the AFL can impose a suspension. He has never been convicted of any offence and, from what I am hearing, these 2 charges are misdemeanours on the lower end of the scale. Either way, the Eagles will almost certainly terminate his services for breach of contract. Unless another club is prepared to draft him in the PSD (which I doubt is worth the risk) that will be the end of his AFL career and I fear this will have ultimately have catastrophic consequences for Ben.

West Coast sacks Cousins

It has been confirmed that the West Coast Eagles have sacked Brownlow medallist and former captain Ben Cousins after his arrest in Perth yesterday.
Cousins was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and refusing a driver assessment after police stopped and searched his car in Perth yesterday.
It is the latest in a string of off-field incidents.
Cousins was suspended by the club earlier this year and has undergone rehabilitation for a substance abuse problem.
The club's board and lawyers have spent the day in meetings to determine the 29-year-old's future.
West Coast Chairman-elect Mark Barnaba says the club had no choice but to terminate Cousins' contract.
"He has seriously breached the conditions and spirit of his revised contract under which he returned to the club several months ago," he said.
"While those conditions were private and confidential, Ben was aware of them and the incident yesterday left us with no alternative but to act in this manner."
Mr Barnaba said he had been unable to contact Cousins directly but had informed Cousins' father Bryan of the club's decision.
The AFL says it supports the club's decision to delist Cousins.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou says Cousins will no longer be part of the AFL competition and needs to concentrate on regaining his health and getting his life in order.
