If Burton was played on the HFF then I think he'd be a much more potent threat. His strength is that he can push up the ground and provide an option. The key for me is to get Walker to FF and have Tippett leading out from CHF. It'd be nice to have our forwards playing to their strengths.

Pretty sure Burton was on the HFF today.

And agree about Tip, I'd love to see him play CHF for a few games

Rutten
Bock
Tippett
Walker

That's a pretty good looking spine.

Until Maric was spent - and there was the ridiculous situation of having our best forward in the ruck, and Burton playing out of the square.

It sounds extremely callous, but part of me hopes that we do keep on losing.

I can't believe I just said that ... but I'll try to explain before I have my membership revoked and yellow A hat confiscated.

A lot of us have reached the conclusion that Edwards, McLeod, Goodwin, Burton and Doughty have taken us as far as they can. And that for us to challenge again we need to have a fairly significant clean out.

If we cobble together a few wins, whilst it might save us some angst in the short term, the downside might be that we continue to cling to what we are doing and make minimal changes. Keep flogging the horse so to speak.

NC has so much faith and respect for the old guard the only way I can see that changing is if the wheels completely fall off. It's almost like we need to take a step backwards for us to go forwards.

*Shudder* I'm going to go have a shower now :o

I'll join you. errr.. in your thinking that. Possibly not quite as 'there' as you seem to be with it yet but a loss to the Tiges might fix that.

I actually didn't care today if we won or lost - so long as we showed we wanted to win the game. The team looks so confused and going through the motions that whilst they had a good half of showing it that was only when things were going their way - soon as Port got on top we just went into our shells and put up no fight.

Anyway to the point of this thread:

As mentioned by others, and I also indicated in another thread, it was a reference to Burton's form for the year in the context of the forward structure this year. He was tacked on the end - almost as an afterthought - and being called 'solid' is hardly a glowing endorsement.

I'm in the Walker in/Burton out crowd FYI but we do need to actually comment on facts and not mis-reading/mis-respresenting things. Especailly when we are all fired up and emotional.

Burton was ok in his link up play, but he made two or three crucial 12 point errors, and when playing forward was constantly playing behind his man - never once saw him actually lead his defender to the ball coming into the forward line.

Disappeared after half time, but really wasn't alone in that - Porplyzia only had two touches after half time according to ABC radio.

I hope you guys realise we wasn't just talking about today's game, but his overall form this season.

The reactionary posting on this board is hiting an all time low now.
Yeah, that.

It's getting lower and lower with all the winging and bagging the coach and players ... like the CockOfaRoach was running it or something.

And, self-evidently, there are listening and interpretation skills on display here which need quite some sharpening, as a few here have pointed out. "Hear a bit of it, interpret less, and post a blast" seems to be the order of the day, sort of like being trapped amongst a bunch of what Port supporters used to be like.

I'm constantly disappointed that you continue to post, but it's something I've had to get used to.
Not as much as the rest of us are with you, Drum. Jen is a voice of reason being bullied over by what comes across as an angry tub of lard.

I'm still amazed that we gave up a player like Mattner easily, who seemingly seemed lost at our club but is thriving in a new environment at Sydney.

I am wondering how a player who didn't look AFL standard now looks like a confident, competent player ?.

We'll just keep playing the veterans because Neil doesn't believe in gifting games each week..

I've noticed in the past five games, when Maric hasn't had a another 'full time' ruckman helping him out, he has been absolutely spent in the last quarter.

Yesterday, even though he copped a slight corky I think, he just could not run and chase the opposition. He really needs more time off the ground. I'd live to see how much time he is spending on the ground compared to last year.

How far away is Jimmy?

Because it’s quiet apparent the club is not interested in playing Griffin and James Craig is not ready yet.

Sellar would be a chance this week and I can't wait to see more of that bloody 1 quarter he showed in his first game back this year.

If he's not right to go, please bring McKernan in.

We need to bring in another ruckman, don't want to burn Big Iv out. It won't happen but we should be starting to think about how our 22 will look next year. Get the side settled.

Thanks for the info. Does he sound positive (in what he needs to do and how he needs to get there) ? Does he display a HUNGER to be great ?

Same old blinkered thinking from so many on this board. On the weekend Burton had 5 direct goal assists which is the most by any crows player for the year but the Burton haters would not have a clue about that as they have made up their mind before the game starts. He certainly makes mistakes as he is always trying to move the ball quickly, but there just is no balanced views from most about the great and indeed brilliant work he often does. Petrenko had no influence, no defensive pressure, no goals or stats and we hear nothing but Burton 11 touches and 5 goal assists and his game is "horrible" and "embarassing". Scott Stevens misses 5 or 6 genuine goal chances and nothing but Burton does it against Sydney and he is apparently responsible for the entire loss. He could kick 12 this weekend and some on here would still just say he was being selfish.

11 disposals, no goals, 3 goal assists and 2 fatal errors. Happy with that?
