At the post match press conference after Adelaide beat North, Round 6:

JohnK: Neil, do you instruct Andrew McLeod to stay on the edge of the pack to become the run-off player?

Neil Craig: At times, yes.

[Pause]

Rucci: How will you coach Andrew McLeod now after a performance like that when someone sits on him and he can't... [recording too faint]

Neil Craig: Well, Andrew is playing a role for us and I am happy with it. I don't necessarily agree with your comments there. His performance to date in terms of where we are and what I ask Andrew to do... I mean did anyone see Andrew McLeod go and tag players today? ... Did anyone see that... actually go and tag some players? These are the sort of roles that are starting to unfold for Andrew McLeod and some of our senior players. Some of that work will go unnoticed by the general public. But it certainly doesn't go unnoticed by his teammates and his coach. So, Andrew McLeod is a very important player to our club and he has been for a long period of time. I think that some of the things that Andrew is now doing will leave a very very good legacy.

Hey john, where’s this weeks article??

What do you think is unusual about what craigy said? Ofcourse he wont publicly bag him, maccas been pretty poor, and has basically been out of form for two yrs. He tries though, and we dont know how hard it would be with his knee. I dont think we use him to run through the lines enough. Blighty always had him running into the open to use his pace. I thinks he is 27 so should be in his prime, but his best is obviously past him unfortunately.

Rucci: The question must be asked ... [recording too faint] ... most telling ... [recording too faint] ... revealing ... [recording too faint] ... talk, talk, talk ... [recording too faint]

Neil Craig: You look like a ferrethead.

Well you would want to get a hell of a lot more than a tagger for some $500K a year.

Its $400, amd i'm sure he took less when he was at his prime so he is rewarded now. Jr said this on 5aa. He is easily our greatest player so far, so you can be too harsh on him.

Rucci: Hmmm....I think I'll pull my knob out and play with it....(recording faint but you can just make out Rucci searching for his tiny shaft)

What would you do with McLeod stiffy?

I have some genuine concerns about his output. I dont know where his mind is at the moment and I dont presume to.

I would like to see him given free range to roam from forward of the wing, with an emphasis on goal crumbing/kicking.

Thank you for your report John

My oath you would Stiffy.

Some strange co-incidences happen in life.

Co-incidence 1: Macca leaves his wife and his form sparkles for the early rounds.

Co-incidence 2: Macca goes back to wife and his form is ********e in Rounds 5 and 6.

Believe it or not.

In the normal distribution points. It came out last Friday. By the way, Adelaide Review is a fortnightly, not weekly.

Did I say I thought it was unusual?

Well done JK, your recents posts have increased your newspapers reader base by at lest 1 ;)

Mcleod has bad knees.
Or did some forget?
But even on his worst day he should and will be in the starting 18.

He was always a threat yesterday - hence why the Roos put their best tagger on him.

So why did you post it?? What was the point you were making?

Exactly.

It really gets to me the way some taggers go about their task & Rawlings has to be one of the most annoying in that he scags & hangs on to his heats content & most times right under the umpires nose.

What we need is an enforcer type to remind these serial pests that it might be worth their while to occasionally look over their shoulder.

Well, I'll be honest and say I didn't see Macca tagging anyone against the Kangas. That's not to say he didn't, but I didn't see it. From where I sat he seemed to have Brady Rawlings glued to his hip.

Neil Craig is very supportive of his players - is the tagging comment a tactic to keep media attention away from Macca?

I did notice against both the Magpies and The Bullies at a couple of stoppages that Macca was doing his best to stand against a certain player but had someone trying to stand against him. It didn't happen much though.

Nice bluff by Craig on that one, Fergus.

He challenged them on the spot "did anyone of you see McLeod tag the opposition today?? Did you?? Or you?? Or You?? Did any of you??" implying that Mcleod had, and by doing so, effectively silenced McLeod as a topic.

However, he didn't actually say that Macca tagged anybody if you analyze what he really said.

Well I watched closely when I watched the match again on the replay, and although you can't see the whole vista of the game, I didn't notice Macca tag anyone - unless he is implying that Macca tagged Rawlings rather than the other way around.

I think Craigy just wanted to shut them up on the topic, and very cleverly did by calling their bluff. :D

Craig wasn't bluffing. I missed the tags but I saw McLeod insert a couple of effective screens, freeing up teammates who went on to get the stat.
Craig's point is that McLeod and a few other seniors are doing different things off the ball these days, to bring the young players onto centrestage.

This was an invitation to watch McLeod's game closer. These things don't always appear within the narrow TV view. The 10,000 regular no-shows might like to come along to AAMI and see them for themselves.

Craig's point that McLeod's teammates know what McLeod is doing is a telling one.

I would play him as a crumbing half forward with a licence to go up to the win. The role he played against Collingwood is the role I would want him to play

I made exactly the same comment to my girlfriend after the game and copped a mouthful in return :D :p

McLeod's personal life has nothing to do with this board. I am ashamed on your behalf, Stiffy, that having made so many posts on this board, you still think that someone's personal life is fair game for cheap and nasty comments.

If you can't respect others, you don't respect yourself.

Couple of points John

McLeods personal life is not our concern , its the effect his personal life has on his football that concerns us as supporters. A comment was made incorporating the return of AM to his marital home and his form. It may be completely wrong but it is coincidental.

Stiffy replied to a comment from macca23 and then gave a smiley to a friend ..not I assume to the personal situation of Mcleods.

Thank you for making sure we dont get carried away with personal issues, but by all means take the time to read a few more posts
