Cummins certainly isn't taking this pounding lying down. He's backed up that 50 by another bloody good effort with the ball, nailing Markram and de Villiers (for only 6 runs). It looks like Morkel won't bowl again in this test also. Such a shame we'll likely be chasing 500+.

Fingers crossed it's at least closer to 400 and we give it a shake. They're currently 3/99 and lead by 366.

That's true. Conservatism is in their DNA. The record 4th innings run chase there is 310 so why not set close to double that?
as you said, injured bowlers. It was all about time and not runs. Enough time to bowl us out while giving their bowlers as long as possible to recover.

True they are very conservative. Steve Waugh was the same though. He had the mentality that the longer you kept the opposition out in the field ,the more it stuffed them up mentally for their batting
They are up in the series too so cant blame them

No doubt minimising the time their bowlers had to be actually bowling. Watching them bowl though they looked pretty good despite the injuries. Philander's groin injury didn't slow him down and Rabada's back didn't slow him either. Morkel was meant to be virtually unable to bowl at all yet he took two wickets. To cap that off Elgar batted like Geoffrey Boycott, merely wasting time. Doesn't matter anyway given we have zero hope of winning and the series is theirs.

BREAKING: The Australian Cricketers Association will ask Cricket Australia to re-consider the sanctions given to Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.
I know they're sticking up for their members but I think this is a mistake. They (well, Smith and Bancroft, anyway) have engendered a lot of sympathy since their return and a lot of it will disappear if they are seen to not accept the punishment.
