Considering Test records are kept WITHIN first-class records, and ODI records WITHIN "List A" records, it becomes a question of simply First Class + List A games. It shouldn't be First Class PLUS Test or one-day international PLUS domestic limited overs... that'd be counting the international runs twice!

Of those who played pre-limited overs cricket, Jack Hobbs is several thousand clear of his nearest rival, at over 60,000 runs.

Of those who have played in the limited overs era, the only ones with really great longevity would be Boycott, V.Richards, Gooch and Greenidge, although I'm not sure any of those would have scored that many domestic & ODI limited overs runs.

Hobbs for mine.

What about School 1st XI and Club cricket?

Could put a spanner in the works.

well Dipper, the suspense is killing me!

Graham Gooch scored 44,846 first class runs and 22,211 List A Limited Overs runs so I'd reckon he'd be hard to beat.

TOTAL: 67,057

Cheers!!

Well first let me say that my old mate Darky has made me look a ****:D obviously it is 1st class runs plus list A runs .I worded it like that trying to make it clear that it was the whole lot.In fact looking at it again I think i covered myself by using the word 'includes' but granted it wasn't as clear as it could have been.

Anyway I'm pleased to say that the highest run scorer ever at the moment is my boyhood hero & one of the greatest team players I've ever seen (take note Player) a man who unfortunately didn't start to fullfill his potential at Test level till he was about 34/35 the one & only Graham Gooch.

A man who took on the best fast bowlers in the world & regularly scored runs, a man who played the top spinners in the world as well as anyone a man who if he had to face Terry Alderman on a cloudy day you might as well give a blind fold & a last cigarette.:(

BTW anyone know who the overall all time top wicket taker is?

I don't but I'd guess it was some English bowler who played for about 20 years after 1day cricket came in.

Maybe another Essex man like John Lever could be a contender.

Avtually thinking about it some more it's probably a spinner as some of them have gone on until they're about 50 in county cricket, just long enough to pick up 3 benefit years:D

Graeme Hick has getting on for 55,000 career runs at the moment. He's 36 and is international career is probably over. Players who have had a reasonably long Test career tend not to stick around the County scene for long, certainly not the 6-8 years he would need to reach 65,000.

On the bowling side, if you take top level, both one-day and two innings cricket then Wilfred Rhodes is still way ahead of the pack with 4,000+ wickets.

All the first class records are dominated by the English because they play about 30 games a season, and even more back in the good old days.

Wilfred Rhodes played more than 1000 first class games - no one around today would've played half that amount.

Courtney Walsh is the leading non-pom for first class wickets. Just missed out on 2000 wickets, not sure by how much. Can't be bothered to look.

Also, interesting question, which Australian has the most first class wickets?

Can we have a definitive answer on the highest runscorer please.
I'm still waiting to see how far out I was with Hobbs.

Jack Hobbs has just over 60 000 runs but seen as though he has never played any "List A" one day international matches, he has fallen short of Graham Gooch.

Graham Gooch is the 'overall' leading run scorer ever, limited over & first class runs.

Hobbs sounds a good bet for first class runs only but I'm not totally sure, but as you've obviously got internet acces there's a few sites that will be able to tell you just use various search engines & you'll get there or ask Seindude who found out exactly how many runs Goochie scored.

Hobbs has the most first class runs, can't b bothered to go check who is the closest behind, but i dont think there is a major gap, considering that the amount were talking about here is over 60 000 runs.
