Where it says "ex-Brisbane tagger."

I actually didn't realise he had done any tagging at Brisbane. I always had the impression he was predominantly an outside runner.

I thought he was more a Wingman/HFF Type.

Guess they are working with him becoming a Tagger. His Defensive side to the game is good

God to here that Reid is progressing well. Interesting to read that Crisp is in line for the tagging role in Caff's absence.

Had no idea Crisp was considered a tagger, but he has the height and speed to match it with the best, much faster then Caff, which as we've seen, Caff has the tendency to get burned.
But it's his repeat sprint work that could make him a dangerous tagger, was rated one of the highest in his draft year, we bring that out of him we could have a tackling beast.

Caff is one of the most disciplined players at the club and thats what makes him such a consitant stopper, but Crisps athletic profile could make him a very dangerous tagger and offensive rebound player.
Could be very exciting to watch.

I agree completely. I'm a bit dubious as to whether Crisp would be up to tagging. But if he does play as a tagger then his big advantage over the Caff would be his ability to hurt his direct opponent going the other way. The sheer level of discipline required to be effective as a tagger is why Caff is so good at it.

Either way I'd love to see Beams vs Crisp rd 1 for a variety of reasons :p

Beams would have no chance at stopping Crisp going the other way. We might just have to look away from the TV as Crispy kicks, to be happy about the result though. :p

That said, I was also unaware that Crisp had played as a tagger. Makes you wonder whether he'd be good at it, as you said, his athletic profile is a huge plus to taking the role but it's about so much more than that.

Very interesting if true. And very interesting as to how we're going to develop and utilise Crisp. He's essentially a free hit, so we may as well develop him as a tagger with the prowess to burn on the rebound.

Although I'm not sure Crisp will tackle to hurt. I just want someone to crunch Beams real good. Caff, Cloke, maybe Goldsack or Greenwood. Maybe even Bruzzy Bray Maynard.

I really hope we don't use a tagger for every game.
I'd prefer a centre square with Pendles, Swan and Adams in there.
Me too. But unfortunately I think we all need to accept that Swanny won't be able to perform at the level he once could.

I'd be surprised if he didn't lift his midfield minutes this year, but I'd be even more surprised if he got back to "100%".

We do have some other options for that other midfield spot, they just get a bit thin after Greenwood and Sidebottom but I wouldn't mind setting up without a tagger for a good portion of the games.

I reckon Crisp might be a half-back flanker and I'd be interested to see how he fares. On mid rotations this season will give a bunch of new players a taste.

Crisp never tagged. Was definitely more of an outside runner though. We had great success last season when he played as a high HFF that would stream back through the midfield as a link man when we counter attacked. Always seen Crisp as someone who has very high potential and is good to see he is training well. Some things he needed to clean up such as his kicking and some decision making but that will come with more AFL experience. You have a gem on your hands.

Marley Williams would be the guy I'd groom for the mid tagging role, decent pace, hard as nails, likes the crash and bash and doesn't mind taking on a man physically. He also knows how to read the play well in the midfield and could in my opinion be an attacking tagger that hurts both ways.

If Swan is fit and uninjured but only playing to about 90-95% of his previous output, that would put him on par or even ahead of most mids in the comp anyway.
No coach in the league would want to see Swan and Pendles line up in the guts.

When Macaffer was kicking 30 goals a year in the forward pocket people were probably saying the same thing
Was that in an alternate dimension? Caff's best return is 16 goals in a season.

I agree. People writing Swanny off cos his possessions dropped to 24 a game last year carrying multiple complaints might want to contemplate how successful his old man was after 30. It's in the genes and Swanny comes from good stock. He's always been a ball magnet and that won't change.

Check his TAC Cup form. He was a leading goalkicker at that level and was recruited, obviously, on the basis of that form.

I wouldn't mind him as a tagger. He can win his own ball unlike Maccaffer.

I like Caff as a forward option but he certainly worked well as a tagger who got his own ball.

Without a dominant ruck sometimes you need a defensive mid. Beams and Swan were never particularly hard-workers in that regard.

Absolutely.

Yeah true, I just rate Macaffer as a 30 goal a year forward if played there full time. The point still stands though, no one saw it coming and it's worked well. Don't see why it couldn't happen with Crisp

Crisp the tagger. How does that sit with us all. With Greenwood and Adams in the middle do we want Crisp in their tagging. Where does our elite ball movement come in? Pendlebury alone would struggle to make it an elite midfeild.

Sewell and Mitchell are both ho-hum kicks. The Hawks get their skill on the link. Accountable winning of the footy on the ball is their primary role, as it will be for Adams (who's the Luke Ball kamikaze type) and Greenwood (the Paul Licuria-esque hard checking type).

Were Crisp to be groomed for a run with role, I'd be betting it's for a linker and potentially their 'quarterback' type HBFer. I doubt we'll ever see him starting 4 in the senna square.

Mitchell used to be a ho-hum kick. Now he hits targets with aplomb on both sides of his body. Was a guy that used to hack it forward after dominating the clearance and would get chopped off. Now he's far more damaging by foot.

He's learnt to play within himself, but could not be described as a great kick.

The greater point is that TG is kinda assuming that an elite midfield has 3 Luke Hodges on the Ball...well, the Hawks barely even use one Luke Hodge on the ball!

We don't need 3 Pendles on the ball. We need to get our hands on it first and foremost. Adams and Greenwood will assist this.
