I guess further to my previous post - find a good box with good, experienced coaches and you'll learn a whole new set of skills across a range of disciplines. I never thought I'd be walking upside down in my late 20's, but here I am. You will learn the basics and fundamentals of weightlifting, olympic lifting, gymnastics etc. If you don't want to represent Australia at the next Olympic Games and are keen to keep in shape, CrossFit is for you.

If you're trying to break records and hone your craft, find a specialist gym/coach/training program and snatch away.

I have a mate that started with CrossFit, found a love for Olympic Weightlifting and went down that path for a couple of years. Now he's back at CrossFit because he doesn't take himself too seriously.

If you don't like it, that's fine. However I think it's worth treading carefully in an increasingly obese society when criticising people for their exercise habits. CF gets people out of bed and into the gym because of that community feel. For that, it's worth it's weight in gold.

decided im going to strongly look into a box nearish me. i guess im interested due to the emphasis on endurance/building fitness rather than just lift heavy like the couple programs i have rotated through over the past couple years (with limited success).
also im a lazy campaigner & have a tendency to slack off so the change of environment (well outside my comfort zone) would probably be good for me.

raskolnikov how long is a normal days session? only time i can do is the 6am before work and i have a halfa travel from the gym to work. this is probably the main factor stopping me from signing up

I’d go to the box website and look.
Yet to see one that didn’t list their class timetable.

Sessions are usually an hour. Our box has a 90 minute endurance session on Sundays. As Aeglos said, check out their website. Most boxes usually have a Facebook page too.

My box has scheduled 2 weightlifting classes a week specifically to work on technique. Only 2 people including myself were at the first session tonight so I felt it was cheap personal training. By a very credentialed guy too. Came 2nd in an international youth competition earlier in the year.

They just have start times. I'm sure they'll give me the details when I give them a call. But I am lazy lol

Did you end up giving it a go?

Not yet, did a couple of weeks where I picked some wod's I could do with the gear I have at home. On holiday now so didn't want to sign up somewhere before I went.
I'm woefully unfit atm though so will need to condition myself a bit before I do sign up as well. Still really keen though, gonna go visit the place when I get back

I wouldn't worry about how fit you are. The workouts are scaled down to what you are able to do and, if you have a good coach, s/he will make sure you scale appropriately.

My box has new ownership and new coaches. The new coach is brilliant. Cracks down on every little flaw in your technique.

I wonder if there has been a directive from Crossfit HQ in terms of focusing more on technique, or whether this is just a case of someone coming in from the outside wanting to have an impact in this area.

Of course this could be completely off the mark, but from the outside that does seem to be a common criticism of Crossfit in general.

I think most official boxes are pretty good at monitoring form. It's the rogues who do it on their own who tend to ignore form.

Didnt see a name but it was a minute each of
Wall balls
Double unders
Box jumps
DB cleans
Bike
Rest...
x5

Im about as unfit as you can get tbh. I've been doing weights in a garage set up for a while now but like any sort of cardio destroys me

Did you do double unders? Impressive if so. Took me a year to get them, probably 2 to string them together fluently.

I'm glad the games are shaping up to have an exciting finish tomorrow. I like Fraser, I just don't like the way he usually dominates and the results become so predictable.

A couple of Australian blokes in the top 10, TCT doing TCT things and leading the women with a decent points margin.

Hopefully they fair better than the last Aussie bloke to make the top 10 lol.
