Crouch or Danger (or Sloane)

With all the hype around Danger (deservedly) I wonder who will become our clubs best midfielder.

At this very early stage of his career my humble opinion is Crouch will be our best within a year.

Silky skills, clever in traffic able to lift his arms above the tackle, and a fair degree of hardness, this kid could be anything.

I guess it comes down to what you rate as important.

• Dangers grunt, with the odd disposal issue at pace
• Crouch's polish
• Sloanes Cousins like gut running

Add Douglas in this years form we are very spoilt in this area

So crouch will become a top 10 AFL player in 12 months? He's good, but he's not AFL superstar good just yet.

In 5-7 years time, he's got every chance of being our best mid, but not next year.

Danger is your "best matchwinner" with Tex a close second. Sloane is your best midfielder and perhaps your best player.
Give Crouch time and he may end up being both. Too early to tell and time will tell.
I am a big big fan of Talia though. If we could raid your team, then based on needs he would be the one I'd go for.

If Brodie Smith ever gets a consistent run in the middle, i think he would be better than Sloane

Really there are only 3 spots we need filled properly
- decent ruck
- crumming foward
- super quick line breaker

Currently Jacobs, Jaench/Callinan, Mackay not getting the job done.

True, but im talking for 2014 only.
2015 onwards that will be a key need.
Could we turn Jenkins into a back? I know its been talked about, but I'm not sure he has the nouse to be close to goal in defense.

Actually I've mentioned in another thread a while back that I would like to see him played at CHB with Talia as FB, JJ really has some great running ability and agility for a big guy, I think he could give us a lot of run out defence. Kind of like having an extra small when we go on a counter attack, similar to Bock.

Don't forget Hartigan either. He's had a great year in the SANFL, and did not look at all out of place when he came in for Rutten against Fremantle.

Our forward line gets decimated by thieves and injuries and we decide to make it as hard as possible for the poor bastards we chuck in there to fill the gaps

until we find someone to fill the void down back it is where he will be stuck.. as much as most of us are not Reilly fans, him coming back next year would/could free Smith to a midfield role.

Reilly was playing Hendersons role.
Its now Hendersons (unless we lose him at year end)

i was more thinking Reilly would take hendo's role and Hendo would take Smith's role.. I do not want Reilly back in the side but thinking what will more likely happen.

I'm a fan of Smith, and I hate seeing someone gifted with an accurate long kick stuck in defence. He should be playing in a position further up the ground where he can do the most damage to the opposition, either with pinpoint passing to our forwards or directly on the scoreboard whenever he's in range.

Hitting targets in attack has been a problem of ours for a long time now, we rarely see a forward taking a mark on a lead running through the centre of our attacking fifty, how much of this is due to personnel or coaching I don't know but it wouldn't hurt to have some better skilled players in our midfield. Perhaps this has something to do with us never having high draft picks, if we did maybe then we would have access to players who not only have ability to win the ball but also dispose of it with class.

I thought he fumbled a bit and looked off the pace, granted that's not unexpected for a first gamer. But those things could have been due to the anxiety of playing his first game, so I won't be against giving him some more game time to settle in and show us what he's capable of.

It depends on how you rate "best". In terms of maximum output Dangerfield will always be the best, but I think Crouch will be our most consistently high-performing midfielder within 12 months.

We need one more absolute A-grader to stick into that mix, and you can then build a premiership side around that midfield. Will Grigg reach this level?

Lol I don't get this. Every team needs an A grade kick out of defence to setup run off half back. That's how modern football is played. Smith suits this role currently better than anyone else, because we don't have another like for like elite kick with poise from down back.
