Does anyone here listen? Not sure if it has been mentioned on here before.... Anyway they are doing a live show in September. Anyone thinking of going down? It is at palace nova on a Wednesday.

I started listening to them yesterday. Lots of lol's but I live in Melbourne so doubt I'll be attending. Great stuff though.

Yeah I listen and contribute some mildly amusing stuff via twitter. Is a great show. They true to get it up and running on bf but got banned by vader (?) for promotion.

They got reinstated after some protest.

Listen quite a lot. Funny, casual, and talk just like any other fan. They've done really well to get a vast audience as well. Around 900 followers on twitter and they'll reach their 10,000th download in a month or two.

did they after all that? Remember the kerfuffle...

The boys don't post here anymore though do they? They should, would add quality.

Nah they don't post, but it was more of a moral reinstatement. I think they were a bit pissed at the treatment they got.

Agreed, they would be great here! crowcrap

A moral win is still a win...

It's a great way to end a Monday. Much better than Caro and Hutchy...

Too much swearing for mine. reeks of 11 year olds who learn to say fcuk from an uncle and its the only word they use when their parents arent around. ideally theyll mature at some point but so far its all there is to listen to. based in melbourne i guess its how i keep up to date with everything, and theyre putting more effort in than i am so kudos for that.

There is definitely a fair bit of language, so anyone sensitive to, or not-appreciative of that probably won't get full enjoyment, but it is by far the best thing out there. Better than the crows official effort.

And the language isn't anything you wouldn't hear at AAMI anyway...

I just got back on board again recently. It's improved.

I gotta say, I also have a problem with the language, but it's not that I get offended. It's just that if you're swearing every sentence it loses all impact and is just meaningless. Plus, it's just padding, added words that aren't adding anything to the podcast so it's wasted airtime. If they can tighten it up to a slick 45 mins instead of a flabby 1 hr 15, they'll get me listening each week.

Vader needs to answer some questions, namely - WHY?

From memory they were promoting their own product. I'd have to go through the rules to find the specific breach but I'd suggest we don't want to set precendents for people to come in with sales pitches.

That's not to say moderators can't go OTT at times. I blame people for making them frustrated and angry ;)

Just for clarity - from the forum rules:

Leave out the spam. Posting links to sites or contacting people via PM advertising your web site or goods or services is not allowed. Contact us if you want to advertise. If you have an announcement to make let us know and we might include it in our regular e-mail newsletter. We sometimes filter out domain names of sites which spam. Do not evade the filter to post links to those sites. Posting the same thread across multiple boards is counted as spam, even if it is non-commercial. Frac: Serious

From memory they may not have taken the first suggestions to cease and desist on the chin. Which breaks another rule...

Take it on the chin. If you get a warning or a suspension don't fly off the handle. You'll only get yourself in deeper. Make your case clearly and respectfully and you might be heard. Chuck a tanty and you might get the flick. Creating new user accounts to get around bans or restrictions WILL increase your suspension or get you booted off the site. Masking or altering your IP is reasonably easily spotted so don't waste your time on it. Contact the Admins for reviews of infractions and bans. Frac: Warning to Serious for continuous time-wasting

Anyway - I don't think they are banned anymore?

A good point made well. Agree 100%. :thumbsu:

Because BigFooty has rules about spamming, which these guys were clearly breaching, effectively advertising their product on BigFooty for free. I don't make the rules, I just moderate according to the BigFooty rules as laid out by the Admins.

If they've sorted things out with the Admins, which apparently they have, then they're more than welcome to post here again.

EDIT: Thanks to Allefgib for quoting the relevant rule about spamming. The "take it on the chin" rule never came into it.

That's all fair enough and it was never a Vader hunt... Just a thread about a podcast...

I've tried to listen, oh how I've tried, but I just can't get past 15-20 minutes without being bored out of my mind.

Yet, a couple of mates rave about it.

I do agree with this point about the swearing. I'm not offended by swearing, but I don't really like swearing when your using it for the sake of it. Use it when it's necessary.

This happened a lot at school, and I didn't see the point.

Good advice Kristof

I agree about the swearing. The guys are funny, but when you add in so much swearing it tends to grate a bit and loses its impact.

We don't post here much because we are not sure that the Big Footy audience is the same as the one we have for the podcast. I think the Big Footy culture is more one of interacting in almost real time rather than passive listening.

The show is based on my favourite podcasts from Smodcast, which do contain a lot of swearing. Puck Nuts and Hollywood Babble On are the biggest influences... These shows can tend to ramble, but sometimes you find gold.

That said I don't think I swear as much anymore, saving it for impact (hopefully), and I'm trying to get Chris onboard. When we have a guest host they can try a bit too hard and swear a bit too much.

I think our segments are improving, and we're looking forward to a big September. Having a segment structure now (ala Hollywood Babble On) speeds the show up and makes it a better listen.

The openings have become more intricate too... Getting a good reaction. Be interested on your thoughts re big open vs big finish to an episode and how the relates to

a) Listening to the whole episode

b) Deciding to download the following week

Also, does a win make you more likely to download?

We take on board all your comments, I personally think we have tons of room for improvement, but most of all the beauty of podcasting is that I get to put out something that I would like to listen to rather than to 'play it safe' to attract a large mainstream audience. Personally I think we're a better listen than Cornes and Rowe or the Rush Hour, but that might just be my taste.

It's a show designed for headphones or for like minded people in the car, not general consumption...

Listen while walking the dog, driving the car, gardening, etc.

Anyway, we suck. So that's something we can all agree on.

Bye!

Matt.

you might be surprised as the people that want to engage more outside of the mainstream media are more likely to consume both forums and podcasts (for example me)

I subscribe in itunes and so download automatically win or lose. having a winning season this year caused me to seek out podcasts though. To be honest i usually skip the intro, I listen to your podcast because i like to hear different opinions about whats going on at the club, and living in melbourne it is very rare to hear more than 90 seconds dedicated to crows discussion. some of the segments i enjoy, some not so much (road to nowhere is a fav)

AS you can prob see from the comments above most people notice the swearing loses its impact pretty quickly, but one of the great things about podcasts is everyone knows its a couple of guys producing content from their living room that provides free 'opt in' entertainment so no-ones going to complain too much whatever you do (your post seems to be seeking a bit of feedback so i hope my post is seen as such and not complaining btw)

depends what you want, if you want to have lots of listeners you will be constrained a little by catering to lots of different people, if you want a smaller niche podcast then you will have more freedom but less reach.

As i said in my earlier post, you're putting in more effort than i am so kudos for that!

As a non itunes person I would have to hunt to find the download.

On a bit of footy overload with the forum, twitter, tv, powertiser home delivered, footy tips, sucking at supercoach and being an ultimate member.

If I was living out of Adelaide to get my footy fix I would be more likely to download it and have a listen.

Swearing is a bit meh to me, I don't do it often but it isn't a deal breaker either.
