NO TROLLS Rankine handed a 4 match suspension by the AFL integrity unit for a homophobic slur against opponent

Rankine did self report and called the Collingwood player. Rowey said it was heard by other Collingwood players and overheard by a Collingwood official when they were talking about it after the game who then told the Crows official.

So he didn’t self report? Collingwood told Adelaide.

In the jack Graham case he raised it of his own volition without being prompted by the club or opposition club.

Nice way to bring racism into it when I said nothing about racism, classic woke tactic 👏 Someone using a racist slur against an indigenous player is not comparable to someone using a gay slur against a heterosexual player. If it were used against a known to be gay player, that would be the equivalent. Happy to help.

You devalue the suffering of indigenous victims of racism by watering everything down
How do you know that player isn't gay? no one knows... because this kind of stuff keeps happening, it's almost a certainty that there are gay AFL players in the league but won't come out because these slurs keep happening & would be afraid to be looked at or perceived different.

I don't think 'self reporting' to the AFL in relating to on field slurs carries the same weight it once did. Primarily because players are no longer reluctant to call out such abuse when it happens - which is what I think happened in this case with the abuse was reported immediately by the Collingwood player concerned to his bench.

So in that sense, attitudes are changing amongst players as to what is regarded as acceptable.

How the world has changed - as my mother taught me sticks & stones etc - all this PC drives me insane! God help us if our young men of today had to go to war! Surely a fine and some education would suffice.

Such a sad attitude. As I have stated previously, calling of names and slurs can be every bit as damaging and hurtful as physical beatings. How many people have taken their own lives due to verbal and emotional abuse?

Hang on...

You're suggesting that men today are soft because they have some empathy towards others? But then you have a public meltdown because people have differing opinions on things your mum taught you 1000 years ago!

Come one man. Most tough guys don't rely on their Mummies 50 years down the track.

Supposedly, Rankine wasn't aware the Collingwood player had concern with what he said? It wasn't direct at the player but at his previous contest at the ball.

If he had to use a cheap insult, bestiality jokes won't get you banned and they're way funnier and more insulting than gay slurs ever were. Come on players, use your imaginations a little.
Or a finger up the arse a la lizard style

That’ll show him who’s the f*****

A different time, different standards, and levels of acceptance. Racism/discrimination was rife with little to no consequences.
What's the connection of racism / discrimination in the Tuck / Carman incident and the subsequent penalty?

If you guys have a more acceptable and articulate way to convey my thoughts on the perfume industry being more feminine and historically unbecoming of an AFL footballer, I'm all ears.

Oh he was talking to himself. If that's his story I hope they slap him with 6 weeks. Can't even own it after you do get caught.

John Coleman would agree. Plenty of players have been rubbed out for finals. Why should Rankine be treated differently.
John Nichols and Neville Crowe, though that looked a bit like a phantom punch / slap, a bit like Ali Liston 2.

Bang, no drought breaking premiership medal for you.

What? He already apologies to the Collingwood player as he wasn't aware the Collingwood player was bothered with what he said and he wasn't until a Collingwood official overheard it after the game. He didn't direct it at the player but at the player's contest describing it as the F word.

Not related to the Carmen-Tuck events itself, more a statement about how things were different when it came to onfield acts.

A response to the time period itself and AFL/VFL reporting/policy, which would probably have been little to non existent when it came to what happened.

Do you usually go round and say offensive things and then immediately ask if people had any concern with what you’ve just said? Sounds very normal.

The issue is saying the offensive thing in the first place.
