So, thoughts? Where's the line of paying out on them?

It is where it has always been...just with extra ammo.

If an adult let's it get to him he should find a new hobby/mates.

And you were right to ease up when a kid would have been affected.

Don't know if you expect to offer name , place and exact quote coz that was never going to happen.
To be honest I don't think it is such a ground breaking discovery, expect that many clubs fudge figures for visual purposes.
I stated day or two back that I would want EFC fans in the trenches with me due to there loyalty but I still believe what I have been told.
I am taking you to task because you have made a claim that rich benefactors are propping up the club by inflating membership figures artificially. It is a massive claim and if you can't back it up you deserve to be called out on it which is what I am doing.

Really shouldn't abuse Essendon too loudly at games. Remember Hurley is in the crowd & he'll come after you swinging
By the sounds of things he might just be first out the door, actually.

Good for you, do you expect me to detail my source and for the benefit of a BF poster. Not happening.
The way the club has behaved this would rate at the bottom of there deceptions.
How does it compare to your deceptions? Also, if a "benefactor" was willing to buy extra memberships (rather than sponsoring which is what most normally do), surely Essendon and any club for that matter would be silly not to take them up on it. It would also not technically be a deception because someone has willingly purchased a membership. Anyway, your story sucks and you should be ashamed of yourself for attempting to pass it off as fact.

Sat down to watch the game today looking forward to watching Essendon get smashed. By quarter time I felt sorry for them, not going to be as much fun as I thought. In fact seeing as I love to see an underdog get up I think I will support them at various times during the year.
I don't understand me sometimes.

Ashamed, not at all. No reason to be.

I must admit I've had next week eyed off for months. Not just because of Essendon, but because it's the first game in Melbourne, the players are officially cheats and now there's this whole 'Stand By EFC'/march thing happening.

The club instigated a program which was found to be performance enhancing and fought tooth and nail to say it wasn't. The march removes any element of contrition about it. If the 12 Dons players flick up on the screen you'll be damn sure I'll be booing.

They're not underdogs, they're enjoying the fruits of their 2012 programme. As for sympathy, I sat beside their supporters until the final siren of Rd 2 2013 and they deserve everything they get for supporting such a rotten club.

I would say that with the latest recreational drug stuff, this will make all club supporters a bit wary of giving Essendon a hard time.
This is precisely what the AFL and the pro-Essendon sections of the media want to happen. They want to continue the blurring of the lines between recreational drug use and performance-enhancing drug use so that the everyday moron can't see the difference between the two.

That is no certainty.

True, though the AFL have openly said they'll do their best to get you back as apparently the competition "needs a strong Essendon".

It is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. It certainly happened at North in the dark days when the AFL was circling, I know for a fact certain wealthy benefactor types bought several hundred memberships in order to make our figures look better and try and reduce us a target in AFL eyes.

It is absolute bollocks is what it is. I know that for a fact. The person who put it out there was making things up.

Someone actually supporting their club? Can't have that!!!!!!!
Ha ha… Nah there is a line between being a supporter and being a w***er and they crossed it that day!

Hundreds maybe not, but there are certainly people buying additional memberships to be given away. Aware of a few previous EFC members who did not renew last year and were given a gift membership.

Pretty much all clubs have weathly members who support the club by buying additional memberships for the club to give away at their discretion, it's a fairly common way to support a club.

Would not be in the least bit surprised to find out that this is occurring at a higher rate than normal this year at EFC. Personally I don't have an issue with it nice to see a club supported, any club. Think you be deluding yourself to say it does not happen.

Fair enough, I'm not going to pretend that I know what;s happening behind closed doors at the Bombers on this.

I have bought memberships in the past for my staff so in that respect you are 100% correct. That was more about providing something extra for my staff than attempting to inflate numbers. I choose to attend club functions and sponsor players etc when I want to give a little more. There are plenty of coterie members with more money than me and they offer other possibilities and opportunities but I have never, ever, heard of them snatching up memberships to inflate numbers. There are better, more direct ways to put money in the clubs coffers. Your pal suggested that rich benefactors were buying memberships in a deliberate attempt to inflate membership numbers and was unable to supply specific evidence to back up it up. AKA rumour and innuendo. We are not at the point where this required because our supporters have jumped on board to support the club. We are not North Melbourne or Melbourne where we are traditionally poorly attended and every now and then we have to pass around the hat or rattle the tins. (No offence by the way as it is what it is).
I will refer back to the turnstile instead of making big statements which are little more than thinly veiled attacks on the integrity of the club. This is always the best way to judge who is actually going to the games… As I said, I am happy to discuss the clubs actual failings of the club but people making stuff gets in my grille.

Very good turn out of Bombers fans at the game yesterday. Made a lot more noise than the Suns fans and both sets of fans were very well behaved. Was actually surprised at the number of our fans that made the trip up there despite knowing we would cop a beating

A vocal minority doesn't make it okay to shit on the rest of us.
You are absolutely right. My anger is directed towards the Board then and the Board now. But to display my childish petulant anger I must take it to the games where the Board can ignore me or ask the AFL to kick me out of the oval. Either way if the moment is right and it feels good to get it off my chest then I will.

Just call security they will deal with me

Part of the problem was/is the club and supporters insist on crying innocence rather than truly taking the whack and moving on. Even the players appealing just adds to this.

It's perfectly understandable for the club and supporters to want to move on. It's footy and they just want to get back to enjoying that. But crying innocence in the face of such evidence against them and yet trying to move on at the same time... You can see why people get upset.

In terms of direct support agree there is better ways, but for some reason Membership numbers has become a KPI (think it's a stupid one, personally think membership revenue is better) so having an increased membership base each year is seen as having a strong growing club. Not least it helps sells sponsorships ( thinking about it this is one reason for raw membership numbers) Also politically think having so many members renew so quickly after the CAS decision looked good and sent a strong signal to the club and wider AFL community. Last thing the club wants this year is to be seen losing supporters.

Also giving away free memberships during the year is a good way to try and get people to attend games that are poorly attended, and let's face it towards end of last season you had a few shockers in terms of attendances. Your draw this year, in terms of less prime time slots, won't help. Once EFC performance dropped off so did attendance last year, this year is going to be a challenge. Giving away a few three game memberships paid for by a member who can afford it can help those turnstiles.

There are also damn good reasons to give away memberships, not everyone can afford one, so supporting the disadvantaged. Way of turning supporters into members longer term. Supporting the community by offering them as prizes for raffles, auctions or just as gifts etc to community organisation in the area. Which is why most clubs, if not all will have some people buying extra memberships.

However do agree with you it's unlikely to be sold on the basis of inflating the numbers, but I be very surprised if the EFC football cub did not have some of its more wealthy members offer to do a bit more this year. Good on them if they did.
