Eago77 and I were in a chatroom recently and decided that we'd put together a list of Crow's players that were just dead set ordinary. We then thought we'd make up a team...but we came up with so many names that we decided to come up with two teams: one for up to 1995 and the other for 1996 and after. Here they are:

Pre 1995 - Coach: Robert Shaw
Backs: D.Hughes, T.Warhurst, M.Viska
H/Backs: B.Lindsay, P.Rouvray, R.Thompson
Centre: S.Schwerdt, E.Warrior, A.Geddes
H/Forward: M.Di Biase, J.Klug, C.Lamb
Forward: S.Tongerie, C.Groom, S.Wigney
Ruck: R.Negri, A.Saliba, E.Hocking
Int: M.Kluzek, S.Pedler, S.Tasker, R.Bone
Emerg: W.Weidemann, D.Marsall, D.Smith

Post 1996 - Coach: Gary Ayres
Backs: T.Ormond-Allen, B.Chalmers, A.Fernee
H/Backs: B.Higgins, A.Ingerson, M.Collins
Centre: C.Sampson, R.O'Loughlin, L.Picione
H/Forward: S.Cook, B.Standfield, B.Williams
Forward: A.Keating, A.Richardson, T.Cook
Ruck: M.Golding, B.Atkinson, D.Gallagher
Int: T.Gilligan, B.Singh, L.Herbert, S.Logan
Emerg: M.Connell, S.Wellman, M.McKinnon

Can anyone add any? Apologies if we put someone in the wrong era. I think any club would struggle to put together a worse list than this! Any comments or suggestions?

Cheers,
Tredders#16 and Eago77.

you forgot Nick laidlaw and Clint Kirey post 1996

Porthos, I don't remember laidlaw, when did he play and what is his story?
Good work on Clint Kirey (is that how you spell it?).
I also remember one Nicholas Pesch.
Ian 'Downer' Downsborough must be a chance.
Also did a guy named Peter McIntyre once get on the crows list because if so he was very very ordinary!!

I dunno if Laidlaw got a game or not.....another Sturt to Crows trade that did nothing...

and Clint Kirey is the correct spelling.

Downsborough definitely needs a berth

Just a few more to add to the list!

Just told tredders16 the additions, he is wetting himself with laughter.
My favourite Adam U, josh mail and Sammy Smart.
What the hell were the crows thinking?
I also like brooke Fogden.
FYI some one i know was at Mickael Gooden fiance hen's night last night i can't believe we didn't think of him.
We might have to make three teams worth!!!

Love the work of Alan Schwartz, James West and Toby Kennett. I have never heard of Ben PArker when was he on the list and where did he come from? Also was there a McIntyre who played or not?

Good work Scott.
There are a few even i can't remember: Parker heads that list; Linden Stevens remember the name but not the ledgend, same with Allen Nash.
It would be great to work out the best line-ups pre and post 1995, just to see which team would stink it up the best!!

Ben Parker was from the Murray Bushrangers Under 18's and was drafted by the Crows in the 1996 draft at number 86. He didn't last very long into the 1997 season, just couldn't cut it with Malcolm Blights training.

Peter McIntyre played for the Crows between 1991 and 1992 and put together 14 games for 19 goals.

My favourite is Allen Nash, this boy made the news on a pretty regular basis because he hated playing for a loser club like Sturt. He believed the only thing that stopped him from becoming an AFL footballer was the team he played for, this kid loved himself and thought he would be a star in a more succesful team. Once he was delisted he was never to be heard of again, probably still searching for that succesful team.

Does anyone know where Allen is?

I knew it!! McIntyre did play for the crows - what an addition!
Ben Parker well he came and went pretty quick didn't he. What position would he hold down?
Doing a bit of research on Allen Nash. By the sounds of it should try www.allennash.com.au he may have an update on himself.:D What years was he a part of the once powerful crows line up?

Excellent work!!

Just a couple of points. John Klug was a dead set champion. He was the only reason (apart from hoping they'd lose) that I would watch Cows games.
Everybody seems to have forgotten about the Cows famous drunken cop hater..............

Jonathon Ross. His drinking exploits were his one saving grace.

Wow they just seem to keep on coming (or going).
Jonathon Ross. Execellent memory there!.
Yes, i agree that klug was harshly treated early but i think by the time the crows started his time had past.

Darren Davies (West Coast)#7, 1987#39/39
Paul Gow (Western Bulldogs)#8, 1990#7/0

You will have noted that there were no Adelaide players in this list. The reason for this is because they normally trade away their early picks in fear of having their name part of this group.

Just for interest sake the Crows have had three really bad picks in there history. Yes they have recruited a lot of dud players but these have at least been with later picks.

Tom Gilligan#13, 1996#3/1
Lance Picioane#17, 1997#4/0
Brent Williams#18, 1995#7/4

All of this should be able to start the dud AFL team!

-------------------

As for Allen Nash, he was picked up at 31 in the 1994 National Draft and with some guessing would say he was there for the 95/96 seasons, I know for sure he was not there in 1997.

--------------------

Ben Parker was a midfield I believe, but his stay was so short I don't believe many of us would remember, he was just a crows player anyway.

Tredders,
have a look at this team and see if it helps you out at all.

F: Sudjai Cook, Michael Murphy, Ian Downsborough

We haven't been around for long enough to only have lovable duds, so this is mainly just a team of duds.

Tredders i think Allan Barlett could be squeezed into the size and a case could be made for Murphy.

There is nothing wrong with talking about loveable dud crow players as some of he have also been loveable duds of many other clubs. Those of the ilk of downer & co should never be forgotten.:)

Wellman a dud...

Did u ever see him play for Adelaide???
He deserved a mention, just for his hairstyle back then.
He has adopted the Crow dome (ala Robran, Smart, Jameson, McLeod) in the last year or so with Essendon.
