The guys a top 2 draft pick. Why we surprised he can play?
Given how undermanned the defense was are we really surprised that happened.
It's not even about how he plays, but look at his arms. He's been in the system for 4 years and is already bigger than everyone on our list. Why won't the club let our players get big like that? It's clearly a huge advantage.

A really young list with a significant number of first choice players out, and key postion players out to boot, it's a development year.
Its a development year but lets play an injured ruckman down forward and a key back who doesn't offer much. Would rather throw a few kids to the wolves to see what we've got, at least they'll have a bit of hunger.

We look much better when we are doing no contact/no pressure training.

Feel for Macrae in his 250th, he did well. Hall had a nice first game. Still confused as to why Hastie was subbed. Would've preferred to see a fit Heath or Keeler over Marshall today.

Not sure if Nas will return to Victoria after he plays 3 of our first 5 games in Adelaide.

Honestly not many positives to take from today. Happy to be lose and lose badly when we give 100% effort, but today didn't feel like that was the case. They actually looked mentally fragile, best part about today is next week is a clean slate.

Crustacean was great. Really shows where the rest of the list is at

Wilkie and Webster were good, just needed more help.

Wilson had moments.

Boyd toiled but looked cumbersome and slow at times.

Hall will be a player. Rest of the forward line did probably as much as could be expected of them given the outs and poor delivery.

Windy tried hard but I think his ceiling will be GOP. Same with Hammer.

Nas needs to pull his finger out - can't go for the tough kicks if you can't make the easy ones.

I don't know what to do with Steele, he just has looked a shadow of himself for the last two and a half years.

Hugo needs more time

Arie and Hastie had reasonable matches

Hill was godawful. Can't believe he wasn't subbed.

Overall effort was lacking through the middle of the game, particularly in the midfield outside of Macrae. Disappointing given that we don't have much else to rely on.

Play keeler. Tell jack steele to stop moping around like a digruntled teenager. Hes embarrasing
I'd like to see Keeler next week, but I'm glad he didn't play today. Horrible day for a young tall forward to debut.

More generally, the unfortunate reality is that we need close to our best 22 on the park to be a good team b/c we have no depth whatsoever. The silver lining is that the players who aren't good enough to be in the 22 are young and have a lot of promise, rather than being mid-career depth players.

I reckon the difference between the two sides was the 20-100 game players.

Crows 12: Rankine, Cumming, Sholl, Hinge, Soligo, Rachele, Murray, Thilthorpe, Peatling, Michalanney, Keane, Worrell

Saints 6: Clark, Wanganeen-Milera, Byrnes, Windhager, Caminiti, Wilson

Huge difference in numbers and in class on the day.

💯 we had a bunch of drafts that should be players in the bracket and they just arnt at the club anymore. Make no mistake. This year is real beginning of the rebuild

If Nas signs on I’ll be surprised

Why would you look at that today and say i want to keep wasting my time getting pressured because the opposition doesn’t respect my teammates when i could have all the time in the world with the ball playing in SA

Miserable day of footy which will probably set the tone

Most uncompetitive we have looked in a round 1 for a long time.

Players looked flat
Structures were either not implemented correctly or just plainly didn't work
Gave up several end to end goals
Outnumbered everywhere

The big one is pressure we applied had 0 impact on their disposal. It's the same rule for when you leave you man to spoil, you better ****ing impact the contest or kill the ball because if you don't it's a training drill the other way. Time and time again we have players peeling off their man to add to the pressure on the ball and the crows got the ball out and waltzed it forward with a numbers advantage.
The difference between their forward line in the first quarter (with the wind) and ours in the second was telling. They rushed numbers back and gave us no space, we gave them acres of space.

I'm like a broken record, I know, but Thilthorp has been in the system for 4 years and already has more mass than literally our entire team. Why can't we get players putting on mass like that?
If Max King had a bit of size, he wouldn't get outmuscled in every single marking contest.

If we drafted him we would have had him trim down to maintain running capacity, played him in defence at Sandy for a season or two and intermittently given him a few games at AFL level rotating between forward, defence and ruck. He also would have copped some stress fractures in the pre seasons due to the amount of running and probably wouldn't have cracked 20 senior games total yet.
