This is really irrelevant in the branding/logo design process.

As a designer I run into this scenario far too often: the client lets their subjective view of the presented concepts dictate their decision and, in turn, the outcome. In reality, it really doesn't matter if the client likes or even identifies with their own logo, it matters if THEIR client/consumer likes and identifies with it – in this case, the fans. It should designed in order to identify with a target audience, not those working at the club or the company. In our case, the logo and wider brand needs to resonate with the majority of the fan base and it's become really evident that for the most part, it does not. On that basis it is an overwhelmingly unsuccessful logo and it really needs to be reconsidered.
I get all this except for the bolded part. It's only evident in here. Not sure you can call the opinions in here a good sample spread of the majority of the fan base. In any case, it will change when the Club has significant motivation to change it. Right now it would be safe to say that there's no-one not going to the footy because of the damned logo.

Yeah that's the measure for everything, how many going to the game.

Why can't you say the opinions on here are representitive of the fan base?

7 of 72 love it, compared to 36 that hate it. That's pretty damming even if it's only a small sample.

You're right, unless we were to take a wide-reaching survey on the issue, no one could say for sure. It would be great if the club could audit it in a survey! The vast majority of people I talk to that are Adelaide fans, not including those on here, would like to see the logo changed also. In my industry, the logo and brand is commonly viewed as a real catastrophe from both designers and marketers. In saying that, I don't think that any logo will prevent people from attending the footy, but that doesn't mean it should not be reconsidered. There's a group of passionate fans who would like to see the club's visual identity reflect the position of an authentic, modern footy club with elite standards.

In fairness, there are way more than 72 people who view this board in a weekend and just like with any online review site, people are more likely to respond when they feel negatively.

I'm definitely not a negative nelly about the club but I absolutely loathe that crows head. I wish they could at least create some gear that had alternatives to that crow head and wasn't crappy Thomo tshirts for kids etc. I would love a polo with a different logo or jacket etc. But for a lot of us it's so bloody terrible that we find it hard to represent our club outside of match day settings.

Agree completely with this. I won't buy any caps polos jackets etc. with the cartoon head logo, some sort of alternative, an AFC logo or Crows colours/hoops instead would be a great option.

The logo was designed at a time when port were dominating the school yard, they were slaughtering us in winning over kids, and once a kid picks a side, they generally stick with it for life. They went out and made a logo that would appeal to kids, that is why adults aren't fond of it, but they don't care if adults don't live it as long as kids like it because once you choose the AFC, you will stick with them.

To find a way to diminish the results to support the clubs position.

Again, proving that your theories about my motivations are bullshit. I've said many times in almost every thread it is brought up in that I'd change the logo.

It's widely known that people are more likely to respond and let their feelings be known when they feel negative than if they feel positive.

My kids hate it.

And yet you voted that you don't care.

The vote is very one sided and that has nothing to do with feelings.

and i bet there was no outside influence on that opinion.
Actually, when we released it I asked them and that was their response. I posted it in the initial thread when it was released.

Interesting that a lot of people in that thread hated it and they haven't even voted.

really? love and hate have nothing to do with feelings?

I voted i don't care because I don't love it or hate it. I just don't feel that strongly about it.

What I meant was the vote results aren't skewed because those that hate it voted and those that do love it didn't. It's because **** all people love it and that's why you were clutching.

More concerned with quality merch.
Think US footlocker, Jordan gear etc.
The Ravens gear is good. We just want quality, well I do.
I especially like the salute to service gear.
Wouldn't mind any logo with gear like this

We have a minority of loud negative nellies in here, no doubt about it. They find ways to pot the club at every opportunity and do so loudly and often. It's always easier when you hunt in packs eh? The silent majority often choose to say nothing, lest they be beset upon by said loud minority for having shit taste or that they dare to support anything the club does. Even the above poll has a percentage of people that don't care - which means they don't hate it enough to change it (or whinge about it). But you and your mates will still bleat that the majority want it changed, when that isn't a true reflection of the whole Crow supporter base at all. And once again, it is a complete and utter waste of time - because the Club isn't going to change it any time soon. I often wonder why you would bother starting a meaningless poll?
Well it isn't just people who pot the club more often than not by the looks of it so I don't know that you're on the right track with this post.

I rarely get too angry at the club about things. But the logo is symbolic of a decision pushed on us by someone who didn't care enough to ask the fans. It's cartoon ish and royal blue. It doesn't look like a crow. It's fine to like it but it's also fine to hate it with burning fury too.

The poll is biased to bigfooty users but there's plenty of different types that come to the website so it probably isn't too bad a sample.

You're like talking to a brick wall sometimes.

Not everyone lives in your world where if you don't love something that means you hate it and if you don't hate something that means you love it. Normal people live somewhere in the middle of those two emotions.

Many people would have thought they like it, but certainly aren't in love with it and would not care if it changed, but also don't want it to change to something they don't like.

AH. That explains why I love it then! Just a kid at heart. ;)

Yeah aside from children, the sample on here would be just fine you'd reckon. There's examples of people liking it, but the majority of feedback Ive ever seen or heard is negative. I'm talking this board, neutrals on the main board, online articles & people I know.

It's widely regarded as a piss poor logo.

Blah blah blah

I think this is true – but it's not a sustainable strategy and this is why we are in the current situation where we have a majority group of fans really disillusioned with the visual identity of the club. It's a short-sighted view from the club, especially now with the cultural shift post-Sanderson. Why alienate a whole demographic who actually hands money to the club? Strategically, it's just not viable long term. And yes, fans won't stop supporting the club due to a logo – but there's a growing, passionate collective of fans that would like to see a more professional brand to reflect the club.

In terms of getting youth into the fan base, I would argue that club success and family ties have more bearing on what club a child supports rather than logo alone.

To paraphrase they don't live in his world, they live in yours?
