all the more reason to play 3 Stiffy....
With Hart and Doughty in the 18, we already have 2 seriously under done players. To bring in another 2 in Clarke and Biglands would be a HUGE gamble. Don't forget that Burton has a cloud over his fitness as well. Thats 5 question marks out of 22 players.

Give Hudson most of the game time and have Biglands play last 5 minutes of each quarter in the ruck and spend a bit of time in the forward line.

Having said that I think NC will go with Clarke.

WC's ruck stocks are also under done. Cox is coming back from a fractured cheekbone and Woosha has said he won't play Gardiner in the ruck. Seaby is out with a hammy so taking in 3 ruckman is pointless IMHO, especially considering that 2 of them are seriously under done ;)

That's why I think Begley could miss, for this very reason. Hudson plus 2 half fit ruckman might be needed to do the job of 2 fit ones.

Additionally Biglands provides another forward option.

It worries me though, because I genuinely think Begley is the right match up for Matera.
macca, Cox hasn't played since round 1 of the Wizard Cup, Seaby is out with a hamstring injury, Gardiner is coming off a knee reconstruction and Woosha has said a number of times over the pre-season that he won't play Gardiner in the ruck.

I am comfortable with Hudson taking on an under done Cox and Clarke or Biglands coming on for 5 minutes at the end of each quarter to give Huddo a bit of a rest.

Apart from the problem of not being on our list, do we really want a 50-odd ex-SANFL player jogging around on the park? I know he's the head coach and all, but selecting himself just stinks of an unusual form of nepotism.

And how will he coach and play at the same time? The days of captain-coache are long gone since the game went professional...

We could be in trouble both on and off the field with this decision.

I was watching The Last Time They Met on FFC this morning and they had Crows and Eagles at Subi, anyway in that game Biglands played a great game in our forwardline and thats where he should primarly play on Sunday and like Stiffy said give him 5 or so mins at the end of each quarter in the ruck, I think Clarke should be rested and bring him back in Rnd 2 against Collingwood which have had their ruck stocks shot to peices ;)

Talking of coaches, I seen Ayres on FFC the other day and he has well and truely regrown the mullet of the 80's

I agree...on the other thread I said play Biglands in a Forward pocket and stretch their defence. Its a luxury I think we can use and win with.Staker and Hunter will need back up and if that means Lynch goes onto Biglands then we win as Lynch is designated FF, Woosha then has to push Gardiner deeper into the forward line which effectively takes him out of the game, or they play small in their forward line.

Yes and if they are forced into a small forwardline that really plays into the AFC's hands with Hart, Kenny, Bassett and Rutten down there ;)

Just saw it myself.

Surprised that Clarke has been preferred to Biglands, and disappointed that Van Berlo isn't playing.

I think we should be able to win this one in a close contest, and should definitely be able to spank the Pies next week with (hopefully) both Goodwin and Thompson back.

Bugger!
looks like i've lost ANOTHER $50.00, and the season is only 1 game old :( .
Did you bet he would make a debut this round??????

As much as we would have liked to see him make his debut for the Crows on sunday, he was always a slim chance of getting a game in round 1. I still expect him and Meesen to play a handful of games this year.

We are still fielding a pretty decent side and we could have Thompson and Goodwin back for Collingwood.

Considering how underdone Hart and Doughty are I'm surprised he wasn't penned in for a spot given his attributes and what he has shown in preseason so far.

There is absolutely no good reason not to err on the side of caution as far as our underdone brigade go - Blight gave debuts to Goodwin, Keating, Williams and Rintoul when we played Brisbane in Round 1, 1997... I don't see why Craig can't do the same with Van Berlo.

Yep, a fella i regularly bet this sort of stuff with. He gave 4 to 1, and considering VB's training form, media exposure, and not mucking up in the practice/wizard, I thought he should have been very very close.

I have also bet against the crows for the first time ever! So given my current form we should all be pleased ;)

I can see your reasoning but I think NC wants to get off to a good start. We have plenty of HBF options in the line up even though 2 of them are under done. There are still the likes of Begley, Reilly, Mattner, Johncock and even Edwards who can play the role VB would have been given.

We really need to get our match ups right on sunday if we are to have any chance of winning. Still 21 rounds to go mate ;)

That would suggest to me that Biglands isn't quite right yet with that groin, because he would have provided more options than Clarke.

I'm delighted that Begley survived the cut, as he'll take Matera IMO.

As far as the overall 22 goes though? I would've preferred to see the youngster in - especially as NVB can run all day.

Another question, would he perform to a markedly lesser standard than the last 4 picked? It's a gamble either way. Players who aren't 100% vs kids with inexperience.

As far as there being 21 rounds to go, hopefully by the end of them NVB is closer to being a Kane Johnson than a Lance Picioane. ;)

Begley will either get Matera or Sampi. Both of these players will provide some match up problems for us. I would love to have either one of them play for the Crows. They are quick, slippery crumbers who kick goals out of their backsides. Who ever gets them will have to be on their game.

Anyone know any good young crumbers (preferably SA lads) playing for interstate AFL clubs that come out of contract at the end of the year? :o

You had to pick Ben Hart if he was fit. He has shown last year that he can come in underdone and still be a bloody good player.

Personally, I wouldn't have picked Doughty and probably would have gone with NVB but Doughty is NC's love child and definetly the biggest selection surprise for me.

Good point re NVB being a Kane Johnson or a Lance Picione by round 22. Fingers crossed ;) :o

Crumbers who are also SA lads eh? If only Bode and Ladhams can sort themselves out...
Someone who preferably has pace. Someone who is a good crumber and is young. Someone we can pinch from one of the other AFL clubs. Or is there another Davey in one of the leagues around the country? :o

Sansbury????? Miller?????? anyone else?????? Someone we can take punt on :o

DT, I am so confident about the quality of this kid that I'm prepared to bet both Stiffy's left testicle AND his donger that we'll all have him closer to being a Johnson type get by the year end. ;) :D
