Game Day Crows v Carlton, can we overcome Nicks?

Laughed all preseason when people describe Milera as having speed, breaking lines and an elite leg. If he has any of these attributes they’re not deployed game day, but I bet he’s awesome at training.
To be fair, most of us here didn't describe him as such.

One of the bigger urban myths of the AFL

There’s always a few posts in pre-season when posters start suggesting this is the year we’ll see him do all the things.

Very sad at this point. Not quite Ben Simmons off-season workout video level, but getting there.

The difference between winning and losing is going to make a huge impact on body language. If we lose, the sack Nicks theme will be in overdrive. But to me regardless of the result, the outcome for the coach should be equal. Carlton can easily become complacent today after some recent form and that's why I think we have a better chance at winning with a very tough run ahead.

Hopes and desires:

Midfield to lift

ROB not to be the total gronk he is 9/10ths of the season

Curtin to have a breakout game.

TT to kick 4+

Dawson to not have me posting “wtf has happened to Dawson?”

Smith to not blindly kick the ball out of defence straight to a Carlton player.

Butts to put an end to thinking we need to pick Borlase

Rankine to get 20+ disposals and 2 goals

Crows to kick 17+ goals.

See i don't think it will, not yet.

Most people will see us at 4-4 and likely still in the 8 at the end of the round.

Lose next week as well..... and that's when everyone else catches on

Like a lot of sides around the 6th to 14th area, these 2 sides are very unpredictable.

Their recent form however, is better than ours.

We just don't know which Crows will show up today, Crouch out balances the midfield better and Buttsy is a pretty solid replacement for Murray. Don't necessarily mind the Berry inclusion, he'll fight and scrap all day unless the rest of our midfield in the last few weeks. Draper out is disappointing and 99% of us have the same mindset on the Smith inclusion.... I just hope he doesn't have too bad of a day.

The only real worry I have matchup wise, and it's a big worry.... is TDK against ROB, i think each side otherwise are pretty evenly matched across the board.
I'd say the biggest chance we have is Carlton haven't always shown themselves to be the biggest fans of being two way runners and are prone to having big lapses in that regard.

It's a perfect day for footy, so if Nicks comes in with an aggressive mindset (I know, I know...) we can hopefully come out and give 'em a smack in the chops right out of the gate and get Carlton into the "this ain't our day" mindset and take it from there.

We haven't shown ourselves to be big scorers from stoppages this year, but given they have Curnow and McKay up forward and we're missing Murray and Hinge I don't think we can rely on doing all our scoring starting from the back half.

Out of contract this year too. He's such a "what do you do with him?" player. I'd let him go to open a spot for Ryan or Edwards, but we're so hyper focused on consistency and experience that with probably losing Smith down back next yeae I could see us offering him a 3 or 4 year deal to keep him since he's a FA.

I feel for him really.

Like he's playing every week, so he'd be happy enough but you can't ignore the chatter on your form.

And our new method of defending seems to be to concede the front half of the ground and overload the back half. Then we compress the ground to a small area
I recall a few years ago - maybe more than a few ie 2016 that people said this was the Bulldogs method plus chaos ball of Richmond
Continually last week it was backwards handball, backwards handball, dump kick out of the 50. Having guys like Laird and Milera being big ball handlers down there certainly isn't helping us be aggressive with our ball movement back there either.
Unfortunately the Dogs didnt have these 2 and won a flag with it

Big watch for me today is CBA midfield mix and positioning, we've been letting our mids get pushed around and they're constantly behind their opponent. We need a much stronger fight to be first at the ball.

Buckley mentioned last night that its not hard to teach your onballers to rove to the opposition winning ruck.

I've tipped the Crows but had a punt on Carlton, those odds were too hard to resist.

Not confident about this at all.

Feels like we're in free fall, and the team has suffered a massive confidence loss.

Hopefully Fog in at least straightens the goal kicking.

Do you reckon any of the players were watching last night wondering how the **** they lost to that team?

To me, as soon as the opposition rachet up the pressure gauge for an extended period of time, our midfield misfires and we lose
