Definitely horrible first half, but that will happen with a rebuilding squad. 2nd half was significantly better and a positive sign heading into the season that we can rebound within matches. I would be worried if we are still putting up halves like that deep into 2022.
Deep into 2022!!!! WTF. Deep into 2021 you mean surely

That's just building a ready made excuse

Not as big a gold pass as Sloane has, he has led the midfield (and the club) which has been the far bigger problem than our forward line.

Once our midfield finally gets it's sh*t together than have a go at our forwards for not delivering, you could put Dunstall and Lockett in our forward line and they would struggle for a touch. Between our underperforming mids and lack of gameplan most times it is a long bomb forward to a 2v3 or 1v3 contest.

Let the apologists apologise, they live for it.

We are at rock bottom! I think we may win a couple of extra games this year and generally be more competitive, but if you’re expecting consistency in 2021 then you will be disappointed. I would be extremely surprised if there isn’t a couple of 10+ goal losses this year.

I wouldn’t expect us to seriously push for a finals spot until 2023 at best, it will take a long time to get over the shit heap left by Burton and Pyke.

When it's put down like that it's a staggering gulf in experience.

Not staggering considering our selection policy the last decade and a half. This is your, "the last 2 spots don't make a difference to the result, might as well play plodding seniors" selection philosophy coming home to roost. Not to mention your joyous celebration of seniors playing injured and poorly so you can't applaud there braveness and wonder at the experience that they bring.

Some would call this damage control after the battering the mob down the road handed us and the ensuing bad media?

These midfielders you speak of that were available at the picks we took to the draft in the last 5 or 6 years?

On paper and U18 performance at least 3 of those picks Milera, Gallucci and Jones looked very different to my eye...all three elite athletes, top shelf speed, agility, outstanding leaps on all those players and all found plenty of the pill pre our drafting them.

Schoenberg at the pick he was taken at looked to be good value and have points of difference.

Would you have been prepared to take Zac Bailey when Darcy Fogarty was still on this board, guarantee you it wouldn't have been popular on this board at this time if we'd taken anyone other than Fogarty when he was still there?

Milera at the time certainly looked a decent future midfield prospect and you'd hardly say he doesn't have differences to the run of the mill mids?

It's all well and good to say we should have been selecting "different" types of midfielders but a closer analysis at the picks we took to the draft and the players that were available at those picks makes that a pretty difficult task.

And then there's the Gibbs fiasco which was out of the control of Hamish anyhow....valuable picks used there.

Player development in the Pyke era especially has been a major contributor whether some want to agree or not.
Definitely make some good points Bicks

but I think it’s time for a different set of eyes to see different things ...... I think this is healthy after 7-8 years ( how long since he took over ?) ...... not jobs for life unless you’re Stephen Wells

watching on weekend , did not see one of our mids take the ball on the move at a stoppage and actually run towards our goals

let alone kick it well

I liked Milera at the time and just a combo of bad luck and not developing to his potential but mainly the former

Galluci - wasn’t a fan , not enough footy IQ. A good athlete

liked Jones but something has happened since that WB last minor round when he looked a potential star, NOT Hamish fault IMO

not many others with class .... when is the last player as a mid that was a good I50 kick ( Milera has potential )

Is the list this year worst than 2020? No

People need to remember this was last years wooden spooners and minor premiers. So it’s league worst against the best.

I would wait for the first 5-8 games before we judge how the crows will go. I’m expecting crows to finish 14/15. Suns and Roos have worst lists atm.
The Suns have a worst list ???!!!!!!

Oh dear

Probably the 3 best mids in the game currently Martin, Dangerfield and Fyfe aren't great field kicks.

I think it's been coaching more than anything and watching Jones and Hately in particular in the preseason games has not filled me with confidence...Both more worried about putting body on their opponent than attacking the contest/ball.

Common misconception that Martin isn't a great field kick.

He may not have been, but he rarely misses now

Can't agree.

Looks good when it comes off not so good when he burns it.

KE% of 57.4 backs that up...and remember he plays quite a bit of his time forward the last few years.

Meanwhile we've got a young midfielder with a unique ability to hit contests at pace but we're leaving him to rot at half forward while we play plebs like Seedsman in the middle.

Yep that has been a really silly move
Pretty sure they will change that with Lynch coming back in and needing to vibe up the midfield

Hey guys just wondering, who took the kick-ins for you guys against Port?

Brodie Smith took the first three but after that i was crying too much
