I was looking through our squad and it occurred to me how little 'dead wood' we are now carrying, I think it is safe to say the list is now firmly 'on track' and we are starting to build a serious side. I know that young kids don't all make it etc etc.. but when you compare the situation to what we had 4-5 years ago, when we could all list 10-12 senior names that 'had to go' if we wanted to compete.. it is hard to find anyone, other than Jetta for me, that I would clearly put in the 'get rid of' category..

My take on our list (Rookies Excluded):

Ashby, Jason - 2014 - Showed enough to think he may be OK in the future, has tracked nicely in VFL
Aylett , Kurt - 2015 - Freebie from GWS who has shown some talent, a good prospect for the future.
Baguley, Mark - 2015 - Showed consistency through most of 2013 and looks set to hold his best 22 position
Bellchambers, Tom - 2015 - Improved again in 2013 and showed some form up forward, good big man
Browne, Alex - 2014 - Plenty of toe and big things predicted, yet to break into the senior side, but plenty of upside
Carlisle, Jake - 2015 - Potential AA player and future CHF for 10 years
Colyer, Travis - 2015 - Showed plenty of toe and glimpses of form, produced in VFL and could yet make AFL grade
Chapman, Paul - 2015 - Cheap pick up of champion, very little risk to see if he can reproduce his form in 2014
Dalgleish, Lauchlan- 2015 - Plenty to like, heaps of toe and good hands... will need to improve to make AFL
Daniher, Joe - 2014 - Potential champion and already shown enough at AFL level to get excited.
Dempsey, Courtenay - 2015 - If Dempsey can stay injury free, potential AA runner off HB
Edwards , Shaun - 2016 - Cheap from GWS who has plenty of upside, could surprise many in 2014
Fantasia, Orazio - 2015 -
Fletcher, Dustin - 2014 - May be the last year of the great man, but still produced at AFL level in 2013
Gleeson, Martin - 2014 - Another young that played some good footy in the VFL
Goddard, Brendon - 2016 - Star player, B+F and looks ready to produce again in 2014
Gregory, Sean - 2014 - At crossroads in 2014 and will need to produce in the VFL to get another contract
Hams, Will - 2014 - Lots to like about Hams and if injuries he could see AFL action
Hardingham, Kyle - 2014 - The forgotten 'big man' that can play forward and back, could get subs vest in 2014
Heppell, Dyson - 2015 - Star, Champion, Gun.
Hibberd, Michael - 2014 - Showed plenty in 2014 and unlucky not to score AA honours, will improve in 2014
Hocking, Heath - 2014 - Top 3 tagger in the league and produces consistently in the tagging role
Hooker, Cale - 2016 - Improved his decision making and skills in 2013 and looks set to cement himself as FB
Howlett, Ben - 2014 - Started on fire in 2013 and will need to keep that level of form to hold an AFL spot
Hurley, Michael - 2017 - Injuries have been harsh, but has shown enough to suggest he is around the corner from AA
Jetta, Leroy - 2014 - Probably one of the few players that is lucky to be on the list. Needs a big 2014.
Kommer, Nicholas - 2014 - Surprise packet that gave his all, played heaps of AFL footy and earnt his spot.
Kavanagh, Elliott - 2015 - Time for EKav to step up, has shown plenty of talent at VFL and looks ready to produce
Melksham, Jake - 2015 - Top 5 in the B+F and the Melk has arrived. Finally delivering on his promise.
Merrett, Jackson - 2015 - Showed toe, poise and great skills to earn some playing time in 2013, developing
Merrett, Zachary - 2015 -
Myers, David - 2016 - 2014 will see where he is at with competition for spots fierce. Booming kick should see playing time
O'Brien, Nicholas - 2015 - Rated as the 'next big thing' by some observers, will 2014 be the year for NOB?
Pears, Tayte - 2015 - Looked good after coming back from injury and looks poised to take Fletchers spot in 2014
Ryder, Patrick - 2016 - Announced himself at the 'go to' #1 ruck and could be AA if he gets his attitude right
Stanton, Brent - 2015 - Solid player who produces at a high level week in and week out, could be AA
Van Unen, Dylan - 2014 - Developing player that is a long term project
Watson, Jobe - 2017 - Star, champion, Caption and leader.
Winderlich, Jason - 2014 - Finally injury free and was damaging in parts in 2013. Will play big minutes in 2014
Zaharakis, David - 2014 - Patchy after bursting onto the scene with B+F win, is capable of top level performance

It is a good list with strength in every position, every age bracket and every experience level.. I would honestly think that our list is now up there with the top clubs in terms of depth. We also now have at least 10 guys that I believe 'could' become AA grade players.. that is to say 'top end' talent...

Potentially Elite: Watson, Goddard, Chapman, Heppell, Hurley, Ryder, Carlisle, Stanton, Dempsey, Daniher (plus Fletcher :) )

sorry, typo.. AA CHB..

Although I personally think that if you committed to swap Hurley and Carlisle.. Jake could play forward very well..

So confirmed by the club that the Derp is contracted until the end of 2017.

Can we get an update AND a hell yeah? :D

Again you have to say great job by the club.. Our list management has been sensational.

I think we are only chasing 13 signatures this year.. very impressive. How I see the 13:
Need to get (3):
Hocking
Hibberd
Howlett

Would love to get (3):
Ashby
Gleeson
Hardingham

Don't mind either way (5):
Hams
Van Unen
Browne
Gregory
Jetta

Will re-sign or retire (2):
Fletch
Winders

Very, very good list position.

I'd have Gleeson and Ashby in the 'need to get' category, personally.

The reality will bite soon enough though with regards to salary cap. I agree though, I would have thought that Gleeson and Ashby will be fairly high on the phone tree!

Agree eth-dog on potential, I just haven't seen Hams enough and with the depth coming through, I'm just not sure whether he fits into the future plans at this stage.

Fletcher, Dustin - 2014 (vet, unrestricted) *
Gleeson, Martin - 2014 [+ 2 years]
Gregory, Sean - 2014 [+ 2 years]
Hams, Will - 2014 [ + 1 year]
Hardingham, Kyle - 2014 [ + 1 year]

Dell'Olio, Cory - 2014

He got dropped from the VFL side. I'd honestly rather Tagliabue on the list, I can't see Thurlow being competitive at AFL level, struggles in the hitout department at VFL level, let alone AFL level.

whats our salary cap like? anyone have a idea

from what all the media people having been saying over the past 2-3 years its a bit tight, especially since we brought in Brendan Goddard. but when you look at the fact we were still trying to convince crameri to stay on very late in the piece last year and he was asking 400,000 of the bulldogs we should have a little bit of room to move id think, and if Winderlich retires (hope not) like some have suggested and fletch goes that should give us a bit of room to move

Delist hardingham, give the glees a 3 year deal.

Other than that i agree. Hibberd,Gleeson, Hams and Ashby are signatures i'm desperate for us to get

Hardingham has shown that when not injured he's handy forward depth
